Really enjoyed this. Words are so true. Imagery conveys the idea beautifully. ?John B

The beat is kinda different from your style. Nice change. Not knocking your other stuff though. This is just different. Harmonica and vocal harmonies are a nice touch. ?John B.

Pretty title and tune. Nice Latin percussion going on in there too! ?John B

Thanks Gary, but I'm completely happy with the Yamaha CS 80 electronic piano sample (Toontrack EZ Keys) here. It probably doesn't have the depth of yours because you obviously use top of the line programs, but I'm happy with what I have. The flute is a Chinese dizi flute plugin which is free from an outfit called Chinese Winds. I've used it quite a bit on many of my tunes. It makes a nice lead. I don't know if you've ever heard of a group called Shadowfax, but about 15-20 years ago they had a guy named Chuck Greenburg (sadly passed away some years back). He was a woodwind player who, along with saxophone, played an electronic wind instrument called the Lyricon. His tone that he used the most sound quite a bit like the flute here. The one I use is supposed to emulate a Chinese flute. Again, thanks for the kind words! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYP1WUDJhCQ ?JB Correction-The Yamaha e piano is a CP 80. Not a CS 80.

Deeply sorry to hear that, Zarrg. I've been there too. I lost my first wife to cancer in 2014. May God be with you and comfort you. ?❤️ John B.

"Love Song of the Reptilian Overlord" - with audiovisualizer vid
Johnbee58 replied to PhonoBrainer's topic in Songs
Funny title. Got a kick out of it and the thought a love song for a reptilian overlord. The vocal effects are great and I especially love the acoustic bass break. ?John B -
Nice Blues effort. Sounds like it could use a boost in whatever you're using for bass. I really can hardly hear it and on a song like this that walking bass adds so much. The horns sound pretty neat, but are a bit tinny in the mix. Overall a good piece. ?John B

Electrical-Type Hiss on Melodyne Project
Johnbee58 replied to Johnbee58's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Funny, but it's not in any other project. ?jb -
I finally updated Melodyne 4 a few days a go. Since then I went in to a project that I previously used it on and found that the entire project has an electrical type hiss on it. The only way I can reduce the hiss is if I turn off the echo buttons on all of the channels. I call it electrical "type" because it doesn't have the heavy electrical humm that say, a poorly grounded guitar track would have. But a hiss that wasn't there when the original track was treated with the Melodyne. Thanks for any insight. ?John B

Thanks Paul & Tom! Tom, as per your suggestions I did a remix this morning (7/5). I boosted the bass as per your suggestion 1/2 db @ 150hz. I brought down the lead flute part a bit in volume. I increased the volume on the kick drum a bit. There is a bit more presence in the kick drum, but not enough to make it distracting. To my ears it seems to balance a bit more between the high and low end frequencies. The new mix is at the original link, if you care to revisit. ? Thanks! ?JB

Nice. You both added your unique touches to make an excellent work of art. You should do more together. ?John B

Sounds a lot like my modus operandi. ?JB

If this is a cover who did the original? If it's original it's a great song with a great message. Great sound out of (what sounds like) a 12 string acoustic. And your voice DOES sound good. Nice to know that not all of us are of the belief that you have to be a Pavarotti to post your (vocal) music here. I appreciate your being unapologetic about your voice. ?John B.

Congrats! ?JB

I've seen this video before as well as some more of his. He's a funny guy. ? He also has a good point, ?JB

Sounds like something I'd hear on a Saturday night Gospel Hour on the local Christian radio station. Professional sounding. Who's doing background? Nice female voice. ?John B

I like this. You seem to have quite a palate of instruments and sounds. I'm hearing quite a bit going on in this. And your voice is excellent too. ?John B.

Thanks, MR, Joad and Daryl. I know what you mean about the epiano. I guess I'll go in and try to adjust the velocity bars at those spots again. It's either feast or famine with those. If I try to quiet them down, they'd get too low, etc. But I'll give it another go. ?John B

Sound like something Dylan would've done years ago. Great sound. ?John B

If it's not asking too much, could I please ask for a few more replies on this song? With total page views over 100 I know more than 5 people listened to this. This is an instrumental. None of my ugly vocals here. Also, I remixed it since I posted it last week. Thank you. ?John B.

Hey! This isn't the song I reviewed earlier. What the hell? ? OK. Listened to the new one. Lovely tune. The solo instrument sounds very effective. Sad lyrics. Overall nice ballad. I like your style. You remind me of a hero of mine-Dan Fogelberg. ?John B

For lack of another adjective (dad burned-Use your imagination).? I bought Session Strings Pro 2 recently (upgrade from 1. It was half price through June). I downloaded the user's manual and just as it is with so many user's manuals (including Cakewalk Sonar BTW) it's vague and doesn't cover some of the finer points. Then, there are the YouTube video tutorials. Sometimes great and other times not so much, depending who does them. Prime example-With SS Pro 2, there was a function I wanted to do but I wasn't even sure if it could be done. It's using the Rhythm Animator and the 6 different articulations you can choose. When you first look at them, you think it's all just presets that cannot be user manipulated. But when I was watching Native Instrument's Walkthrough video I took notice that he was doing something with the mouse. He was pushing the number with the left mouse button, as one would do to vertical scroll a page and that changed the number! Previously I was clicking on the number to no avail, but I tried what he did and it worked! Why can't they put that little detail in the manual???!!? It's the same as when I bought my Sony Walkman a few years ago. I almost took it back because the volume was set too low, but I accidentally found out how to adjust the volume on it. Something that could've easily been explained in the user's guide but was "overlooked". And that was a basic function. They can't even simply explain how to adjust the volume!!! Honestly, if i wasn't for the user forum here I still wouldn't know my way around half of this DAW. Seriously, I'm going to stop buying these kind of things if this goes on! Thanks for letting me vent. ?John B

Sounds to me like you're trying too hard to sound like Elvis. Gary Brun's voice would sound more interesting to me here. ?John B
