  1. OH, also, you can use "file logger" programs (i forget what I used last time) that track changes in a folder, so you can point them at the temp folder(s) used for installers like this, and log all the files created out of the .bin extractions during setup (which may go away too fast for you to see if you're trying to manually monitor all the folders these tend to create inside the temp folder).

  2. Someitmes programs like 7zip can extract .bin files into individual files, and though they wouldn't be useful for installing they might show you what's in there.   Most often they won't extract because it's encoded or passworded such that only the setup/installer program can decode it, but when they do it sometimes helps my curiosity in cases like this.

  3. Maybe the installer runs in it's own OS and comes packaged wiht an emulator to run in windows?

Or it's like so many driver installers...it includes *all* of the software for *all* of hte things the company makes, but only installs the bits you actually have stuff to update, or have a serial number for, etc....

it does boot up, but then turns off after various periods of time.  It might work for 10 minutes (or not even  finish the boot).  I turned on my interface and had to re log into Bandlab and then got 85% thru the download of the latest cakewalk sonar before crashing.  I think it finished downloading but I couldn’t tell if it updated.

you can’t trust it to stay on long enough to finish any work.

You mention crashing, and staying on, and turning off.

These are different things and usually caused by different issues.

Is the problem *just* a crash, where the OS stays working and programs crash?

or is it an actual OS crash, with an error screen?

Or does the computer actually just turn itself off without warning?

Or some combination of the above?

If there are multiple different symptoms, is there a pattern to which symptom occurs with what operation you're trying to perform with the computer at that moment? Or which program you're trying to use?  Etc?

  5. Added cover art:

It is still hard work to get what I want out of it, but the perchance.org image generator is generally better (than any other "AI" image generator) at following what I tell it, and most importantly, if I use the same prompt and the same seed number, I can generate as many variations of the same image as needed, slowly refining the prompt to refine the specific image, instead of getting a whole new set of random images every time "generate" is clicked like happens with every other one.

The one thing it lacks that would be better is a way to "like" and "dislike" each image out of the set that's generated, so that process could also be used to refine an image down to the art I actually intended to create.

The one above took about four hours of refinement (only about 10 to 30 seconds to generate images four at a time, each time, most of the time spent on refining the prompt over and over)...but the first half hour was "wasted" before I discovered I could reuse the same seed / prompt to get the variations, after I found the most hearbreaking variation of the random ones that best followed my prompt and needed a way to just improve that.*****

The hardest part was bringing myself to type in and *ask for* an image of an abused animal.   And suppressing my tears and heart throbbing when I saw what came up each time.

But this is what this song is about, all those lost fuzzy souls out there that aren't lucky enough to escape this kind of horrific monstrosity, and I want those seeing the cover art to feel what the song is about if they don't get it from the song (which someday I want to revisit and "finish", but to do that I have to "show" the abuse in the song itself, and that is harder for me to do than I thought it would be).

****there are a few others that were contenders, but this one most makes me feel for it, want to get it out of there and hold it and make it all better, and I'm hoping that is what comes across to others as well.  Some of the others below:

  6. If the systme is actually powering off, the most common two culprits are overheating (fans that are not moving enough air, not working, clogged up, heatsinks or intakes blocked, etc), and power supply problems (bad capacitors, insufficient power to run the system, non-clean-AC-input-power (RF noise, brownouts, poor connections, etc).

With laptops, a problem with the battery can cause the system to turn off even if you are not using the battery, if the BMS in the battery thinks it's serious enough and has some form of override control of the system (or the system asks it if such problmes exist and shutdown if they do).

  7. This is Aftermath of Sunlight's companion track, still a WIP, feedback welcome

    or

    https://amberwolf.bandcamp.com/track/pre-cast-shadows-aftermath-of-sunlight-pt-2

    (same version at both)

It's built on the idea of part of the percussive section from Aftermath of Sunlight from this thread

Somewhat incorrect @Amberwolf Cakewalk Sonar and CbB will open any Cakewalk WRK or CWP file going back to the DOS days.

    So Bandlab over here:

    https://www.bandlab.com/download

    can open Cakewalk files? 😕

AFAIK Bandlab is a completely separate thing from Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB), and the OP simply said Bandlab in the post I replied to, so I distinguished between the two of them in my post to see which they were referring to and make sure they use the right one.

  9. How about we just go back to the simple serial number thing.

Type it in from your box or purchase email, and off you go, never to worry again.  No internet needed, no oops the server is down so I can't do my work that doesn't actualy need internet, no oops the ocmpany went out of business so now my thousands of dollars of software/synths/soundsets/plugins/etc. is garbage and i'm out of luck....

Anyone that actually wants to pirate something is going to do it, any group that wants to release pirate versions is going to do it, and the only ones that are stopped by any of this nonsense are the legitimate users.  :/

  10. What do other programs look like when you open them?

Also, keep in mind that Bandlab is a completely different thing than any Cakewalk product, and probalby doesn't open any of your files.

You could try Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB), whcih is the successor to what you have there, and should open your files, but since your graphics zoom settings are part of Windows itself (or your video card's control panel software), it's probably going to have the same issue with any program you use on there until it's changed back to normal.

I don't know if you ever use it, but Windows10 (and up?) have the magnifier tool, which you can engage with the windows logo key and + or -.  If you accidentally held these down or hte keys are stuck on the keyboard, or you have a helpful cat or dog like I do ;) then you could try these to unmagnify it.

  11. Sounds like the driver for your audio device has a problem of some type.

Most built in soundcards have a control panel to turn various options on or off, including things like auto-level or surround sound or extra bass or other assorted options.   These usually show you the status of the jack(s), if they are connected to anything, etc.   Some that have only one jack can use it for headphones or a tiny headset-type microphone, but this has to be switched in that control panel as it doesn't always (sometimes never ;) ) autodetect the change.

What driver are you using in Cakewalk?   This is in your audio settings; I don't know the specific menu you'll need to go into to see this, but there are various threads about drivers (ASIO, WASAPI, etc) with screenshots and such to show you what the page looks like.   If you're not sure what to look for, you can screenshot what you see in your settings by holding your Alt key and pressing PrtSc (printscreen), and then coming directly to your post here and holding Ctrl key and pressing V to paste.   If you can't fit everything on one screen, you can do this as many times as needed.

  12. FWIW, the logo is clear and simple...but all I can see in it is

    bV

    I don't see any "s" or "S".

If I *really* stretch it, I could imagine someone might see

    5V

Then again, i'm autistic so I don't see what normal people see (or hear, feel, think, etc) anyway.

Ya know, I tried to use that as the category to put it in but it wasn't in the dropdown... :P

It wasn't too loud, or bassy, this time?

    A slightly remixed version 052325 000001 000073u is here:

BTW, this (Pre-Cast Shadows) is it's companion track, still very much a WIP more even than Aftermath of Sunlight:

    https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=15023943

It's built on hte percussive section from Aftermath of Sunlight; so far only has the first minute or so of what will be something longer.

Most likely these will become a "single track' at some point, or a matched set, or something...whatever they call it in real music when there's several related pieces of music that go together but can be listend to separately.  Movements?

  14. I sympathize.  My guts have become allergic to wheat (but it isn't celiac, I passed their blood tests with zero reaction).

You don't realize how many many many many things have wheat in them until you can't eat them anymore.

"gluten-free" or non-wheat alternatives to most of them are unnacceptable, either in taste, texture, cost, or some other "feature" of them.   :(     I've been learning to make my own bread, but so far there have been zero versions of even that that are anything like wheat bread.    Noodles...none of them are like actual noodles, *especially* ramen.    Biscuits for sausage and gravy...(the gravy can be made with the glutenfree flours and it's acceptable, but even that is not the same).  Did you know they put wheat in campbells tomato soup?  No reason for it...they just do.  So many things.....  :(
