adding sustain to a midi piano part
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Great, all very helpful, thanks. I'll try all approaches and see which works best for me. -
Hi, I'm wanting to add sustain to a MIDI piano, I've watched a few videos on this and tried to follow it, but its ground to a halt, I've attached a screenshot of where i got to. So, from here i click on the + and choose 64 sustain. But....nothing happens, the sustain "blocks" that I can adjust, are nowhere to be seen. ( screenshot 2) I chose midi event type, drop down 64, click OK and ....nothing happened. What didnt I do? Cakewalk drives..me...nuts!

Groove clip looping not working ( for me!)
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yes I agree, it must be the audio track. I can send a copy if you want, its on Karaoke Version ( "Imagine") but they charge for it. ( fair enough!) Or... I can use my Juno and tap along to the click track I suppose, a method that suits my Luddite level of understanding! -
Groove clip looping not working ( for me!)

Struggling here. I can see that when the SI hi hat starts off at 75bpm as per the backing track, first 2 beats are fine and then it gets slightly ahead of the click track after a few bars. But the temp map says it is 75bpm and surely the midi hi hat must follow the 75bpm project tempo? So why is it going out of sync? One of the tracks must be wrong. -

I didnt know about this at all. How do you check the tempo using a temp map? I assume "views" tempo but where does it show the consistency of the tempo? I see a long dotted line with 76 bpm throughout. -

A question; is there a quick reliable way of replacing Karaoke version click tracks with a midi hi hat? Obviously its what triggered my request for help, but whilst I now seem to have the groove clip looing thing working, I still struggle to get it to match the Karaoke version click track. It starts off in time then creeps out of synch, I wonder is the downloaded click track out a little? -

Hi Glenn, Just did this again with the smart tool and yes the cursor changes as per your screenshot. Now I know this seems unlikely but I guarantee last time I did exactly this the cursor didnt change at all, I tried several times.Maybe its me but CW seems to do things then decide not too. But so far it works now thanks. -

I did, but embarrassingly, didn't know what to do with it! Remember you are dealing with someone with the ability of a small Hamster when it comes to CW! -
Groove clip looping not working ( for me!)

And now, just to add to my stress, I opened another ( different) track and tried to extend the drum track. ( i don't want anyone to think I am not trying to suss things out myself instead of relying on the forum all the time) and this time the groove clip looping worked fine. It didn't line up though so I deleted it and did it again. This time guess what? it didn't work. No change of cursor not able to drag, and yes the right hand corner of the clip has changed to indicate looping is on. I am now pulling what little hair I have out. CW is SO inconsistent, I literally did not change one setting, and it decided not to work. -

I'm still looking to see if I can do this fix myself; I opened a standard template, and created an SI drum kit track. Then I went to the step sequencer and programmed 4 measures on the hi hat. I right clicked for groove clip looping and this time the cursor changes shape and I can drag the clip along to create a complete track . I always used to do this with no problems, dozens of times in the past, but with my latest track it stopped working. Either there's a gremlin in CW out to get just me, or ( more likely) I've inadvertently changed a setting. -

To expand; the cursor turns to an arrow but...then nothing happens no dragging. I used to do this all the time so cant understand what setting has changed. -

Well that didnt take long, I'm back! Yes its a groove clip but it wont drag, nothing happens with the cursor. tried the smart tool but that just crops it. Something is off I assume? -

I'm still confused , here's a screenshot. You can see the 4 measures of hi hat I've managed to create! I used the step sequencer as per Johns post a while back, but it seems to just do one bar, not sure where to go from there? -

Thanks. Odd, I cant ever remember this being a problem in the past; anyway I looked and "loop construction" is greyed out? -
Hi all, Okay I'm trying to add a hi hat track to my backing track as the karaoke version click track sounds awful. ( its a quiet ballad and i don't want it coming through the monitors and being heard by the audience) So I am trying to add a hi hat track using the CW SI drums. I can do 4 bars pressing alt 2 and hitting f sharp( hi hat) but i want to repeat this all the way through the song; but groove clip looping just doesn't work; I tried bounce to clip but still no joy. I know I'm doing something daft, clues please?

YouLoud LUFS discrepancy
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Okay I'll try those fixes thanks. Its a lot of hard work much harder than I thought, I prefer a band rehearsal to be honest! But until I find another Paul McCartney that's not looking likely! -
YouLoud LUFS discrepancy
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hi all, I hope this is the right place to add my comment, its an extension of the above so I guess so. Okay, so I'm progressing with using YouLean to adjust the LUFS on my backing tracks, with varying degrees of success. But my problem is , on some tracks, they are very quiet to start with, they downloaded like that I reckon, and need to be louder; so using the master gain I lift the volume, aiming for round -14 LUFS integrated. trouble is, this sometimes ends up on full gain, all the way to the right, and it starts distorting with clipping in the VUs. Is there a solution to this/ Am I doing something wrong? -
Yes, thats the problem I'm wanting to avoid, the click needs to be on the right and it goes to the red lead and into a separate mixer channel, front of house output turned off, and monitor output turned up so we can hear the click but not the audience. so stereo when exporting seems to the answer. Thanks both for help!
-
Hi all Still a bit confused about this. I've got my backing tracks edited, LUFS sorted ( thanks all for that advice!) etc. Click track panned to the right, main track to left, splitter cable from my iPad can send click track to monitors, main track to front of house. But i still cant grasp the significance of exporting in stereo or mono? I exported in stereo ( CW default option) and it seems to work. Am I missing something or is this ok? Or is it ok either way?

How to match SI drum kit bpm to backing track?
RICHARD HUTCHINS replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Okay, I'll do that from now. Thanks.
