From the website: so probably around 6 sounds
-
Sounds really good, though is it just me, or are the Best Engine libraries a little twitchy about activation/machine detection? I had a library a while back that I installed but didn't get around to using straight away; tried to open it up a while later on the same machine, and I needed to reactivate.

For tambourines/shakers, I'd highly recommend Shimmer Shake Strike https://insessionaudio.com/products/shimmer-shake-strike/ The website says their winter sale is over, but the prices still seem relatively low: you might get lucky if you're quick. Because of the way in which shakers are played, one-shots like in most other sample libraries don't sound quite right, but SSS does shakers quite well. If you want cymbals/drums though, you'll have to look elsewhere.

This is quite a bit more, but it does sale a few times a year; lots of percussion in this https://www.timespace.com/products/cinesamples-cineperc-complete-bundle

If you've used any of the 8Dio/CineSamples libraries, do you have any opinions on how they compare against Heavyocity?
-
Can anyone remember: did Heavyocity do a sale last BF/Christmas that included bundles?

I know it's very subjective (and a little OT), but how do people feel about Blackhole vs Valhalla Shimmer vs Polyverse Comet?

My mindset when making a song usually goes: Have what seems like a great idea in my head; record a single line melody so that I commit the idea; play it back, think it sounds rubbish, and then get demotivated; slug away at fleshing out the sections; play it back and think 'hey, this actually sounds ok'; continue until I've finished/given up. Don't give up; something good will come of it, even if it isn't immediately apparent

According to Faith Hill: The secret of life is a good cup of coffee The secret of life is keep your eye on the ball The secret of life is a beautiful woman ... the secret of life is in Sam's martinis The secret of life is in Marilyn's eyes The secret of life is in Monday Night Football Rolling Stones records and Mom's apple pie ... The secret of life is there ain't no secret And you don't get your money back The secret of life is gettin' up early The secret of life is stayin' up late The secret of life is try not to hurry But don't waitDon't wait ... The secret of life is nothin' at all

If said AI learns its personality from reading Coffee House posts, it's going to have an... interesting... personality -
This is a really nice piece. It has a very spacy/ethereal atmosphere, with good combination of 'build up' (especially with the pulsing bass) and 'release' sections. My only comment would be that most of the sounds feel like they've had the top end rolled off; some of the more open sections might benefit from having some 'sparkly' sounds/percussions. In any case, I do like the synths in this composition - which one/s did you use?

Pretty much... I uploaded a copy to Soundcloud; I used the same file as the audio layer for a YouTube video. I assume both services process their files for their output requirements, so my guess would be that the YouTube audio actually went through one more processing pass (i.e. audio mixdown -> audio layer of video encoding -> YouTube processing) than Soundcloud. That said, I think Soundcloud re-encodes everything to 128kbps. The output level of the original file was -14 LUFS; I don't know if either service does any internal audio processing to get the volume level to their targets.

Thanks @noynekker, @Andrew Ball, and @Freyja Grimaude-Valens for listening, and the feedback. I'm glad this turned out to be something worthy of such kind words.

Hybrid modelling... I seem to remember that TruPianos used that technique... and that doesn't need either 40 or 400 gb. If you want a great sounding (IMO) modelled piano, check out Pianoteq

Given the comments on reverb/atmosphere, I thought I'd revisit the mix and be a little more generous with a different reverb.

Looks like $49.99 is the new flash-sale price

But full Massive X required... just in case anybody can't be bothered to fire up Native Access

I really like the Ample Sound acoustics. For electrics, I think that ISW Shreddage 3 is pretty good too. PS. I love AAS's stuff. GS-2 is good, but to my ears it isn't the most realistic sounding guitar. As Reid suggested, the best thing might be to give it a demo.

Channel Robot The Modernist Collection – Kalimba & Glockenspiel
antler replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
I was quite surprised by the range of the glockenspiel: it's quite low; almost like a bass-glockenspiel is such a thing exists -
To me, a composer is someone who writes musical phrases for one or more instruments and puts them together to form a piece of music. A producer is someone who takes a composed piece of music and targets it for the application: maybe suggest some additional percussion if it's for an action piece; maybe strip it back a little for something emotional; maybe add some special reverb in places for epicness.
