Annoying Artifact Hunting-Solved..still baffled though..
garybrun replied to Neil Cummins's topic in Production Techniques
Have you done crossfades on all cuts? -
This song was written and performed by Thomas Wold a member of the country band I engineer for... Hobo Train. He wrote this for a close friend who has cancer. Its just basically recorded (demo) and we are going to re do it in my studio. I have only mastered the stereo track I was given. I think it's beautiful.

Recording a Print Track with a Dangerous D Box
garybrun replied to garybrun's topic in Production Techniques
That correct. I am sending the SUM Output to analogue 7 + 8. I do not see any signal in the UAD Control Panel for imputs 7 + 8. Need to do a little more research. I hope the sum output of the box is not damaged. Will also check to see if I can get signal into Apollo 7+8 via another feed. -

Correction.. I think maybe the output for the dbox sum is not working. Will need some electronic checks for that. -
Recording a Print Track with a Dangerous D Box

OK... my mistake was not creating an AUX track.. I created a track instead!!! ? Now I have worked that out and can record my master bus. Just have to work out now how to get the spidif working on an input. It works on an output though as its sending the signal to my D Box via mirror to the DAW input on the D Box. I need the spdif to record the sum. mmm. -
Recording a Print Track with a Dangerous D Box

All my inputs and outputs are ticked and showing. Without using summing how would you record your master bus to a track in cakewalk in Realtime? I am missing something... (Forget using a d-box) what would be the process for that? -
Recording a Print Track with a Dangerous D Box

@Sheens Thanks for the reply. I believe there is something wrong as I have tried all options. tried adding tracks and busses etc. Im going to reset the apollo as I know I have everything working with the D Bus.. the spdif is on mirror... but is greyes out in the Apollo io matrix. I run an x8p and an apollo twin. Going to try and switch of the apollo twin and see if its that... -

The problem is with the spdif. I can monitor the summing and the DAW and Analogue.. but can not record the feeds back into cakewalk. Can anyone explain how to record your master back into cakewalk on a track? -
I can recommend Slate VSX. I have an excellent pair of monitors (Focal Trio 6 be) and also use the Slate system to check for translation. also the mastering room in VSX is excelent.

Recording a Print Track with a Dangerous D Box

@DeeringAmps Thanks for taking the time to look... appreciated. The .pdf explains the setup. I have everything working fine except the print track. I have never recorded a print track even without the d-box before. The summing works fine. The analogue and daw part works fine. Its just recording the sum I cant work out. I must have some routing wrong somewhere. The sums should be mirrored to the spidif.. so I thought I should make the input on aux track as spidif.. not managed to sort this bit out yet. hooking-up-d-box-with-ua-apollo.pdf -
I have recently acquired a Dangerous D-Box Summing Mixer. What I want to do is record the "Print Track" to a new Stereo Track in a project. So... I am summing my project through the 8 analogue channels of the mixer.. how do I record this? Its got me beat (my head must be in the wrong place). I am using an Apollo X8p and I am mirroring (digital mirror on) but I can't find out how to record that mirror. hope I make sense. Thanks in advance. Gary

Thanks @mark skinner I've added one more as I personally thought the vocals were a little unclear and muddy. Did dome automation on the instruments and changed out some of the reverbs and delays. Thanks for taking the time to listen. P.s. Maybe Im a little deaf/blind now and need to leave it for a little while! Maybe the guitar solo needs to come up more.

Hi @John Maar thanks for taking the time tn. I have tried to implement your feedback. "Reisen" means the same in Norwegian. ? I will ask why they called themselves Hobo Train.
-
Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. I have now added a new mix and tried to implement suggestions. I have added a tamborine and rimshot/sticks to the mix. Also a few vocal and bass optimisations. Thanks for listening.

Mix 4 Trying to get the vocals more clean (I thought they were muddy) and some automation on the instruments as well as different reverbs added. Mix 3 taking in suggestions. Working on a track for a band called Hobo Train (I am their sound engineer) This is my second mix and would value your thoughts. It is in Norwegian so the lyrics many wont get.. bit to judge the mix you can ? I ran it through the BandLab Master chain.. and will post another without it. Thanks for your time. Gary

I have the Focal Trio6 Be Focal Review< They are the best thing I have ever spent my money on in the studio. I don't even need a subwoofer either.
-
Hi Mate. Loved the track but I think the vocals could be more forward as I cant grasp in some places what the lyrics are. Will compression help with that?? I get a Doctor who feeling about this track ?
-
Sound familiar to me.. as Mark adds 1-1.2k to my mixes. I have just recently purchases the Dangerous Music D-Box with analogue summing... so will check my room tuning again.
-
I would recognise Marks playing anywhere I think. ? Very nice song... those where hard waters to navigate when we young. Well done guys. We all paint very different pictures... I would personally like the voice to be a little more forward with a little more compression and a "warmer". track over all.

I love your compositions Mark... Instrumental balance is great.. and love the cowbell ? We all paint very different pictures and on my system the mix seems to be 40/40 left right. I myself like wide mixes and think your could benefit with a larger sound stage

Hi all. I wouldn't consider myself per say as a musician but I do enjoy mixing and mastering. If anyone wants help in these areas please feel free to send share your project files or stems via transferwise to gary.brun@garybrun.com. If I could be of any help I would love to give it a try and I will not share your compositions with anyone else except yourselves and will delete the project from my system when finished. We all paint very different pictures and you have a choice to do what you seem fit with my end result free of charge. Everything is a challenge... the only thing I cant get my head around is "dark metal".. so sorry about that. Gary

Groovy Kevin. Did you autopan or manual? Well done.
