Yes, Audio snap was another feature I gave a hearty heave ho few years ago. I had spent ( waisted) hours and hours on and it all ended up being a huge mess. Pilot error no doubt, I watched the videos and kept returning to them but gave up as being either over my head or possibly a stupid design. I have two way better methods I will use for a track that has timing errors. 1- Melodyne- it's absolutely brilliant at moving notes around without artifacts. I only work in sort sections and render when done. Whiles its open you can also adjust amplitude and of course pitch. Three important ways to clean up a track. 2-Split the track at the note and drag it to the correct place. Turn off Snap to grid. When I'm done I tend to export the track as a stem at 48/32 and then bring it back to replace the messy looking track I created.

Ya, you beat me too it. And yes it's barley worth the bother. I played around with it and none of the functions are up to snuff. I was especially interested in the de-esser but for me it didn't remove sibilance. Melodyn does. It's back in the excluded bin.

It's official: CbB will not continue for long.
John Vere replied to John Vere's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Actually that old saying is questionable. Unless you have a very old and dangerous tank with a wooden lid, The grass will die over a certified modern tank because the soil heats up and it’s not very deep . The grass does sometimes stays green in the winter because of the heat generated. If the grass is green over the septic field you’ve got another issue. But it is a great old piece of folklore most likely from long ago when septic tanks were sort of funky. So please if you re build Sonar build it over a tank with a concrete or fibreglass lid. -

I started this thread because I find what Noel is saying as all good news for me I felt others would agree. I've held off on making any more tutorials about CbB because of the possible changes to the UI. In the first announcement it was not clear on the demise of CbB. Now it's clear, That's fine and probably in a year everyone will have totally forgotten about CbB and moved on. There will always be a tiny group of hold outs. There's a whole Face book page populated with Sonar Platinum holdouts called the Sonar user group, this will be hilarious because guess what will happen. They are asking questions like " Will the new Sonar be free for all us who paid Gibson a lot of money and got screwed over? " Do you feel that way? I don't because I just got 5 or more years worth of free updates. I totally see no issues with what is happening. And the early access is working 100% for me -
@Bristol_Jonesey I think were driving pour Will bonkers. So the wording throws me off but I think what you are saying is you are inserting an Split Instrument track for a Mono instrument and example would be the SI Bass. In the synth properties I found you can only choose Mono for split instruments, not Simple instruments. They are always stereo. But anyhow out of curiosity I inserted the SI bass as a mono source instrument, I pointed a midi track at the SI Bass track which shows the Mono interleave icon. I play the track and it is showing -6.5 db. I click the interleave and change it to stereo and it still shows -6.5 db. Then I froze the SI Bass track and the resulting Mono wave file now plays at -3.7 db. Interesting. So my only guess is even though the VST instrument track is set to mono it seems to still be actually playing as a stereo track to the output which internally then is summing to mono again. Which as we all are well aware of adds + 3db to the created mono audio track. So is this the issue you were trying to explain? That there's no such thing as a mono instrument track and the option to insert one is fake. I sort of think that this might just be universal to all DAW's

Gee, I had a gig yesterday so didn't see this until this morning. Thanks to all of you who think this was "Good News" to the rest of you , you really need to step back and look at what you are saying. Which boils down to " I don't like this software so I'm not buying" Fine I'm sure there are other free DAW's still out there like Audacity, go for it. -

Do you actually have a list? I'm personally not aware of any serious bugs if any. Are they bugs or are they just things you don't like? -
I thought I should share this as many will miss this gem of info from Noel that was just posted in another thread.

question regarding the new update coming up
John Vere replied to greg54's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Ah! good question but remember, X3 is the last version of Sonar that can be activated totally off line without a server. Bandlab has no obligation to offer the older Buggy version for download anymore. But I was guessing wrong about the continuation of CbB read this from another thread: Noel Borthwick: To be clear, there will be no more feature updates or bug fixes to the CbB codebase. The only reason it's being kept active for now is to provide users time to transition to the upcoming (paid) Sonar product. If you do intend to use Cakewalk please consider moving to Sonar (when its available obviously). We also plan on having a public beta release for it soon once the user interface is complete, so you can make up your mind. There is no change from the workflow of Cbb so the transition should be effortless. If you have requests or bug reports continue to post them but they will only be fixed in the new Sonar release. -
Yes a breath of fresh air on the song forum this is absolutely amazing stuff. Funny that someone commented about liking the shots of the band playing in the video. I'm keeping quiet. ( I do the same thing in mine)

Thanks @msmcleod In one video the presenter recommended choosing 3 distributors that seem to meet your needs and post a few song on each. You cannot post the same song on more than one Distributor. Then you see how each does and get a better feel for the system. Like some don't have very good reports but might earn you more money over time. If 2 of the ones you chose suck you can always take the songs down and take them elsewhere. At least make sure any site you use allows taking songs down. Some charge you money for this. Yep, a steep learning curve but I'm not in a hurry. I've waited 20 + years already.

Does anyone know what piano sample the TTS-1 piano 1 uses?
John Vere replied to T Boog's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Not sure exactly what problems you are talking about but possibly the fact that is can crash Cakewalk is a biggy. What some of us have found is if you start a project with it, like opening a midi file, that it seems stable in that project. I still have it lurking in dozens of backing track projects that started life as a free midi download file. I open those and it creates a very basic project with the TTS-1 and the midi tracks, nothing else. I've never had a crash with those projects. +1 to the demo of Addictive Keys I have used that to replace the TTS-1 piano a million times now. I tried all the free VST pianos and most are worse than the TTS-1. I didn't find anything worth while at all. The only other pianos I have is True Pianos which I like a lot and Airs Mini Grand which sound OK but it's buggy. -
Is there an "auto-start" recording function on Cakewalk?
John Vere replied to Edward Allen's question in Q&A
Yep, cheap USB programable foot switches are easy to set up with the transport controls. I have a collection of them. -
Lost my Microsoft GM driver with CbB 2023.09 - help please
John Vere replied to John Speth's question in Q&A
And seem hundreds of people are installing this version which is not the actual final release it’s the test version. Why on earth did they put it in the toaster? Actually the toast never popped up on my main DAW but it did on the other 2. I installed it on my office computer and really haven’t had time to use it. -
any new soft synth i create gets routed as a midi track
John Vere replied to Zack Neil's topic in Instruments & Effects
I actually ignored it for the first few years and just added synths using drag and drop from the browser. I hid the synth properties dialogue cause I always used the same settings which were a split instrument track, a midi and instrument pair. Everything slowly changed for me as I poked around options when making the beginners tutorials. I soon figured out that for a new user the most straightforward method was the Add Track and it’s default settings. This includes a simple instrument track. I completely switched over to this and have used it since. But I do use the advanced dialogue to choose a bus. And now when I open older projects and find split midi tracks I replace them with the streamlined one track does it all now. My workflow most definitely changed over the last 2 years and I really find it’s sped up my productivity 10 fold.- 12 replies

" As a BandLab user, you can seamlessly create music, distribute, and get paid – all within one platform for only $14.99 USD per month. " This is possibly the most expensive Distribution fee I've seen yet. Many are free. Some take a cut of your royalties etc. My membership with Distro was only $22 for a year. You get 100% of most of your royalties. This is normal. The ones that are used the most have been around for a long time. CD baby I think is the oldest but it needs to improve to compete with Distrokid and Tunecore and a few others. Read the info on the link that @hsmusic posted. There are reasons most people use the same services that are on the top 10 lists. I've been doing a lot of reading and there are literally 100 of Videos on the topic. The story goes that Covid took the musicians off the stages and into their basement studios so the outflow of new releases became crazy. One Distribution company expanded to over 300 employees because of this. So everyone jumped on the bandwagon ( pun intended) because as we all know $10 a month from thousands of people adds up to a pretty good profit. And nobody cares if the material sucks and is badly recorded. But some of the distributers do because they can also make a lot of money by sharing in your profits. And some are the ones who can actually pitch you music just like a record label if they like your stuff this is what appeals to me. Getting your music on Apple or Spotify means nothing if it just sits there. Like all businesses Music has it's sharks and there are people who believe in the actual music and others who are just after you cash. When you take your music to this level you are venturing into a business model. I've always had both the hobby and the business aspect of my music. That's what Cactus Music was and still is. I retired from most of it but I still play gigs and I even still do a little bit of live recording and sound. So I'm approaching this like any business deals or venture I embark on. Who will be my partner and what will they really do for me if I pay them or not. My original music I always treated as a hobby. So that is about to change. In the old days getting a record deal was a 1 in a million chance. I'm not really sure that has actually changed. And generally music recorded in a home studio or even a small semi pro studio was only considered a demo. There were what we called the Gatekeeper so that only good quality recordings were the norm and you had to go buy it in a store. Now the "store" is a digital delivery system and it's instantly world wide. There's might be a glimmer of hope that somehow these global listeners stumble across your collection and like it. It's worth a shot but I'm only going to do this if I can connect with the right partners. I don't like sharks. And I can smell them a block away.

What’s interesting is the OP screen shot shows that stupid Basic workspace control bar which does not include the module with the global mute toggle.

I read and understand the exact same info as Will. The only real change for CbB users will be absolutely no more bug fixes or updates. So not really a big deal for the vast majority who still desire a free ride. In a way it will become sort of a free full featured demo to entice new users into the wonderful world of Cakewalk. The continued 6 month(?) activation will still be in place so they can track potential customers for Sonar and Next A good guess is as Windows updates screw things up CbB will slowly fade away. But I’ll be really old by then! What will definitely change will be the dynamics of this forum. Say the majority of longtime users switch over to Sonar or Next. Those sub forums will get the most attention. The CbBsub forum will have way less help from the long time members. It’s like when we had a Home Studio sub forum.

@hsmusic Big thanks for the link. That was exactly what I was after. Took over an hour to read it all but was worth it. Now I can clearly see the options available. I paid for the basic membership for DistroKid but I might look into the others a little more. It’s so hard to navigate the waters of the music industry these days when you produce actual singer songwriter stuff. Everything is loops and AI generated or some guy grunting out cuss words. I like the idea some services offer that you first need approval for.

Windows key / print screen key will save a screen shot to your pictures/ screenshot folder. If you click on the picture it will open in photos where you can edit and crop it. Drag and drop to the blue area at bottom of your post.

Yes. I've been reading for 2 hours and they seem up front. I bought a Musician's license and will go from there. Need to fix up my Pay Pal account as I have changed banking since my E bay days. But at least they gave me all the info I was seeking. CD Baby seemed very elusive and until I give them money not even sure what I'm buying? Those seem the top 2 so I'll stick with Distrokid. From there I now figured out that then Distokid handles the distribution to the DIgital stores for you. Spotify seems the top of the heap but I keep reading how they rip you off and your lucky to see $10 a year from them after 1,00,00,00 plays. I have had Sound Cloud and Sound Click accounts for a long time. Sound cloud is a very clucky interface. It's difficult to set up what you want in the way of albums and making things safe from download. I only post to share with family, post here in this forum and proof mixes. They tell you your song is #3 on the charts to try and sucker you in to paying. I think this is the sole reason these sites are available for free. To sucker in wannabees. I bet you I could post a recording of my dog farting and It would rate #14 in Hip hop that week. Sound Click does a bit of that as well but at least Sound Click has a way nicer interface and you can easily choose what happens to songs as well as the most important feature- you can update a mix. Both will be way off the radar for non musicians. So I don't think anybody would glean any income there. I also have a Reverbnation account somewhere but forgot my password 10 years ago. I was expecting a lot more feedback but this sub forum is sort of quiet right now. But thanks for the feedback.
