So, now my question is this:  Will it continue to be necessary going forward (as apparently it always has been) to reauthorize it periodically?  If so, will that remain possible after Sonar is out?  That is, once I've downloaded the final update, can I continue using CbB indefinitely provided I'm happy with it never being updated again?

Yes. There is an indication from things said in the OP of this thread that CbB will be available indefinitely and activation every so often will still be required.

It has been stated that CbB will no longer be supported, it may even fade into the history once Cakewalk Sonar (a paid version of CbB) and Cakewalk Next are released.

May I ask, as I'm curious, why that specific version as opposed to at least considering the final CbB version forthcoming, after it's done with testing and the final version is officially released?

    OK!

    I will answer...

In my projects, I use Vienna Ensemble Pro (2-3 instances both on the master computer and on the slave), into which I load a lot of content from Kontakt, Roland, Korg, ToonTrack, etc. In the same place I include many plug-ins. In Cake, I work with vocal tracks, tracks with live instruments and plugins for them. Plus, the mastering bus! It is version 2020.4.151 that is the most stable in my system: for a session of several hours, this version:

    does not fall

    does not hang

    hardly slows down

without a frieze of tracks on MIDI pulls all the way to 256 samples,

without errors saves the history of changes ...

All other (later) versions work much worse than this one, giving me a lot of trouble!

When last have you done a clean install of Windows and CbB? You might have some registry files that are corrupted in Windows of all the EA updates and other installations.  Example: I'm a big believer of not having my DAW system connected to the wifi. I will only connect it to the internet when i do a clean install of my OS which i do every 3rd month to keep my system up to date with new Windows updates. Its a tedeous job everytime, but it keeps my system running smooth with no issues.

I'm sorry for commenting on this!

I installed my studio system in 2013 and haven't reinstalled it since. In the meantime, I've made many updates to many programs (including Cakewalk by BandLab). My entire studio system works flawlessly.

Sometimes I do system maintenance. Then I save it to an image, and in case of problems, I restore the system from this image.

    Also, why specifically that release?

That unfortunately even my crystal ball does not show. It has been stated that CbB will no longer be supported, it may even fade into the history once Cakewalk Sonar (a paid version of CbB) and Cakewalk Next are released. May I suggest you check out the new website covering those products. Sorry I can't offer more information.

    Thank you!

But I only want the specified version (2020.4 build151) and don't want to change it to anything else.

And I already read about Sonar and Next.

All products from Cakewalk require activation. This has always been a requirement.
In preparation for our new products there have been some changes on the back end, hence the previous statement that older versions won't work anymore.

But I want to continue working in version 2020.4 build 151!!! I don't need any other newer one! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?

That being said, I would be lost without them as I have written many complex custom CAL scripts that speed up my MIDI editing workflow by a lot.

    Hi Promidi!

I need a CAL like SPLITNOT.CAL, but for CC. Those. there is a MIDI clip with a lot of controllers, and I need to split it by track - so that each CC is in its own track. Do you have such a script?

I would be grateful if you would like to share!

NastyDLA doesn't save its Wet Only state, which I thought was because of the plugin, only I've noticed it doesn't happen in Harrison Mixbus.

I have vst3 saves this parameter.

I have vst2 saves this parameter if it is automated.
