16 GB RAM yes/no ?

Hi, for a new VST with 500GB samples...would I want to increase RAM from 8 to 16GB ?

Windows 7 and Intel i7 cpu / 2TB

Also, any Windows/Cakewalk setting update that would help ?

Personally, I think 16GB of RAM is the absolute minimum you should have. I'm probably an outlier, but have 128GB...

Yep 32 or 64 is now common on new builds. It’s not expensive.

But a computer that old you might have trouble finding those sizes in the format that fits the MoBo.

I could no longer find a video card for a 2010 HP desktop. 

If you can find it cheap enough it might help but I find adding SSD drives a better performance boost for old machines and they are now dirt cheap.

Thanks John, I bought new Kingston RAM for my 3 old computers, they have reasonable SSD and 2 TB storage each.

If I get it all working, I should be ok for the remainder of my time maybe 

Don't know ofcourse if there's any software coming in future, but hoping I can stay with my machines..

Good to hear you found some. Ya you can keep computers going forever if you handy with swapping out parts. We have a small computer repair shop here and I often go mooching for parts. He’s got a back room full of old toss outs. 
I just built my pine box computer and it cost around $1,600. I figure it will last me over 10 years and I’ll be in my 80’s.  That’s $13 a month if you break it down.

I just have budget dektop pc's...1 step up from the cheap models.

1 fried long ago but could fix it by installing a video card in the back.

I expect dust/dirt in combination with constant maxed out cooler running caused the cooking.

Since then I clean it every year and have a standard working cooler...all is good. 

I should be good for next 30 years / till my 80's

Only spectacular DAW improvements would make me get new computer.

Are we certain of that?

Currently W7is unsupported, but obviously still works. 
iZotope ( maybe it was celemony) caused me to move to W10 on the old machine. 
I did an “in place” update on that and it was “buggy” as hell. 
Finally had to do a “real” install. 
The Bakers have said W10 is part of the “minimum” system requirements?

@DeeringAmps , the statement was from  Mark Mcload.    I believe it had something to do with scaling.       It may be in the Future of Win7 thread..                Q&A section.    His 2nd reply              ms

As I said I have a few W7 machines but they are most certainly on the edge of being reliable. W10 is now almost a goner. It’s getting pretty hard to install stuff on the W7 laptops.

My 3 W7 machines are ok, they're usually not connected to intenet.

For many years WindowsUpdate = disabled, no virus software...guess they cause most probs.

And I still have and use 4 x XP machines😎

I also have Windows 10 and 11 so am / should be  pretty covered🤪
