Need intelligent default paste track

Recommended Posts

Say I have a clip in track 5 and I want to copy and paste it somewhere. It appears the default is track 1. To me, most often people want to copy and paste something within the same track, so how about setting the default as the track where the copied clips currently reside? Or,  do I just need to be educated how to change the default track? Ideally, it is not a number, but an origin. Again, wherever the copied clips currently reside.

I'm not sure what you mean "track that has focus." When I'm copying a clip from a track, how does that track not have the focus? In other words, it should have the focus, so that's why, to me, the default track to paste to is the track I just copied a click from.

It can be confusing. You can copy from a selected track but pasting will go into whichever track is in focus.

Focused track = Track name and control pane highlighted.

Selected track = Track number and clip(s) highlighted.

Also, you can simply drag the clip down on up keeping Shift+Control pressed, and if you stop outside an existing track, CW will automatically create a new one for you.

Exactly. Cut n paste is very 90s. Drag copy is more intuitive
