About Me

  1. When the Beatles arrived, I thought they were OK, but The musicianship did not impress me. I liked a lot of the songwriting, though, especially those concise B parts that took the listener out of the tonic key and back quickly. By the time “Help” came out, the musicianship got better, and when Rubber Soul came out, I was hooked. I agree with Revolution 9, put Rocky Raccoon and Why Don't We Do It In The Road in the ignore pile. I think the White Album could have been one good, single album by cutting half the songs. For me, the pinnacle was the Abbey Road medley. But like I said, I feel pretty similarly about all the artists/groups that I love. Even my all-time favorite tenor sax players, Stan Getz and Stanley Turrentine recorded more than a few dogs. Same for Shostakovitch and Tchaikovsky. I don't get into the “who is better” comparisons, because there is no definitive answer, but I do get into who do I like and dislike. Back OT, I still think “Now And Then” in my opinion only is “meh”. I enjoyed the new work for what it is, but it won't make it on my digital Walkman playlist. But that's just me and my personal tastes. Insights and incites by Notes ♫
  2. You need to set up your computer for audio. Obviously it’s not optimized at all. Watch this for details Playlist of all my videos https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7YqVth30eGsURWrKGeu-fFyg3ETjF-Ox&si=nlEfhtK42q_6FKcy
  3. I have 2 laptops that are stuck in W7 due to age. I hate tossing out stuff that still works. And like others there’s also software, a CD printer and one audio interface stuck back there as well. I only use the one old Sony for music playback at gigs but I also put Cakewalk on it in an attempt to try using the playlist feature. I just updated to the latest and final version no problem. So Cakewalk still works on W7. Your best bet is to do the same so you’ll get more time. All older versions will time out real fast but the last version we are told will carry on until they decide we’ve had enough time to transition to Sonar.
  4. Hi, I'm wondering why I can't find an answer to my question about the error when I load a project from the playlist and the loop that I made between several measures before saving the project is disable. I have hoped that with the latest updates it would be fixed, but that does not happen and there is no response from the developers. At least I would like to know if they have considered correcting this error. Thanks.
  5. Not sure if you saw the videos I made last week about the L8. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7YqVth30eGs-D7nsBl0iPsavrtpnrrsg Now I've done one gig with it I'm going to make a 3rd sort of as a overview and review. I first bought it as a mixer. You can see in the picture how I need everything to be very compact and fit on the little table. I have 2 small Mackie mixers one has no effects and the other the effects are terrible. So I have used a Voice Live pedal for vocal effects. That is a nightmare of connections as well as I've started having issues to complicated to list. One being if you look at the picture you will see my X keys USB footswitch on the floor. The Voice live was beside it and sometimes my pedalboard. Three times at a show I accidentally stepped on the X keys instead of the Voice live and my backing track would stop! It's a good thing that show was not a dance or a 300 person outdoor concert!! This is just another sign of old age because I had rarely had this happen before. So the Voice live has gotta go! And you can see I also put my pedal board out of harms way. I have other larger mixers and only my Yamaha 01V has effects I can use. I've played in many bands and used all sorts of different mixers, the effects are not what I like, ever. Thus the search for a small mixer with good effects. In all the YouTube reviews of the L8 they praised the effects so that got my attention. Got nothing to lose because of Amazon return policy so I ordered it. I was blown away that there was a pre set, Vocal 2, that was almost exactly what I like. I only had to tweak it a bit. Anyways the board was amazingly easy to set up and use at the gig. Then the bonus. I often record my performances to see how I'm doing and make improvements. For that I have to connect my Tascam DR 40 to the RCA tape outputs of my mixer. This gives me a "board mix". This is now built right in. The Zoom took 20 seconds to set it up and I recorded myself into 6 tracks. If you look in the picture you will see a camera on my lighting stand. It's a terrible angle but for what it's worth I could now dump the recording into Cakewalk, tweak the audio and produce a live video with killer sound. 48/32. That's right it records at 32 if you like. I also dumped 30 backing tracks on to a SD card I had on standby just in case my Laptop finally died> You can play these directly from the mixer. Originally I was not thinking of it as a serious Audio interface. But my Motu is now sitting up on the self next to the Scarlett. I will probably sell it and keep the Scarlett as at least the Scarlett was more dependable and has SPDIF. The Zoom doesn't have Midi so I need to keep an interface that does. As an interface it is a better workflow for me due to all the inputs and having complete control over my monitor and headphone mixes. I realized I could also connect 2 more Monitors pairs as well. No need to change the Master output to 3/4. Just turn a knob. I'm running my sub off Mix B. I can now run at a lower buffer setting as well. The ASIO driver is a good one. Zoom has come along way in that regards .
  6. It's been a lot of technology plus attitudinal shifts that correlated with that. Most households in the US do pay for a music streaming service. But people are largely no longer purchasing albums or singles. Record companies used to schmooze and bribe radio program directors and djs and now most of the focus goes on stuff like major Spotify Playlist curators. And there really isn't much hope there if you're not Drake, Travis Scott, Taylor Swift, etc. and I don't see anything changing that soon. I think that's really too bad. Although again, rock is resurging at the moment. But I don't see how the next Radiohead or Jeff Buckley could make it in the current age. It doesn't work for artists with very limited appeal / plays.
  7. Ok, I see you actually use your outputs for hardware. No problem, just open a music player app and drag and drop the file to the playlist and it will play ( using the MS GM synth ? ) I just tested this on W10 22H2. Both Win Amp and Windows Media player play the file. I notice that Cakewalk no longer has the MS GM synth as an option so it would seem that this utility has been removed only from Cakewalk and not other apps yet. Other DAW's have built in GM players like Cubase uses the Halion synth. If you really want to use Cakewalk you would have to OPEN the midi file from the Menu or the desktop. If you have the outputs selected you will get all the midi tracks but no TTS'1. The midi tracks will be assigned to the output that was the top of the list. This is the default and why you have to de select the midi devices listed to trigger the insertion of the TTS-1. This can work if that device can play GM files. I have a Sound Canvas and a Korg 05/rw as example which are both GM. Then if you add the TTS-1 to the project you now have to change each tracks output. So it's much faster to simply uncheck the outputs first. This is Win Amp playing a midi file I just downloaded. It was how I previewed midi files a long time ago until I discovered the TTS-1 trick.
  8. For other who might find this thread in the future. There’s some misleading comments I feel need clearing up. First the title would imply that the update is faulty. If this was true then thousands of people would be here complaining. It’s theoretically the ultimate best version of Cakewalk ever. The only reason why an update might cause minor issues with some users is that something was never properly set up to begin with. So it reset to a default. The normal default is what you will see if you open a Basic or other Cakewalk template. The tracks are assigned to the Master bus. The master bus is assigned to 1/2 outputs of your interface or It will be Speakers if you are using Computer audio. Simple. This is the first thing you check if there’s no sound. The OP said no sound from midi tracks. Of course, midi doesn’t make sound. It is possible they were using the MS GM synth. They didn’t say there was sound from audio which is important. Midi doesn’t make sound on its own it needs an audio/instrument track to do that. That’s why I pointed to the videos because there can be infinite amount of things not set up properly and the videos take you step by step to achieve the correct set up to work smoothly in Cakewalk. The OP’s workaround possible solved the problem because apparently the MS GM synth is now unsupported. So to other new users starting out, take the time to watch the videos from the beginning to the end and as I said you might have to do this a few times before you get it. You will save yourself a lot of waisted time trying to sort things out on your own Cakewalk is complicated. This is the playlist that is best to watch in this order. Watch for end screen link to view in order.

  11. Off Topic ... not available for me. Here's a YouTube playlist: The Cure - 17 Seconds (Full Album)
  12. You are Welcome. There's a whole series and if you are new to Cakewalk it's a good Idea to go through the first 10 on the playlist at least to get the basics in using Cakewalks User Interface. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7YqVth30eGsURWrKGeu-fFyg3ETjF-Ox
  13. Your experience with these platforms may vary depending on your specific needs and goals. It's essential to choose playlist placement that align with your objectives. For example, if you're primarily looking to distribute and sell your music, platforms like Bandcamp might be more suitable. If you're seeking exposure and collaboration opportunities, SoundCloud or Drooble might be worth exploring.

  18. Best thing you can do if you are new to Cakewalk is watch the tutorials which will most certainly explain what to do and how you use midi , audio etc. Here is the playlist.

  21. I was going to say to lock the clips. That is a great way to protect them some. I like folders better than hiding clips. That way all of the other tracks are only one click away. There are several ways to level the different take. First, you should use the volume to adjust them as close as you can. Some people use compressors and limiters to help level audio. These are good, but my favorite plugins are an all in one solution. There are many on the market. Some of my favorite are Waves MV2 and Vocal Rider (these two can be used together) or WA Productions Outlaw. Be sure to check out the deals forum before you buy any plugins! Outlaw will let you set a LUFS range which might be a plus later on. There are some good tools built into the cakewalk pro channel as well. Others - Waves - playlist rider Plugin alliance - Master Desk, Master Desk pro Sonible - Smart Limit Hornet Audio - several inexpensive gain rider plugins You should probably look at Outlaw 1st! https://www.waproduction.com/plugins/view/outlaw Good luck with your project. There is plenty of good help here.
