  1. All 3 of the pieces I mention here used Ample Sound for guitar. Two are solo finger-style pieces while the other is a folk/bluegrass ensemble (which uses Ample Sound's banjo as well). I often will play and record a piece live. But I don't have a good tracking space (dogs barking, neighbors doing yardwork, A/C turning on/off, etc), so I'll use Melodyne to convert my playing to MIDI. It keeps the timing and dynamics but loses fret positions, hammer-on's, pull-off's, slides, vibrato, etc. I use Ample Sound for my MIDI guitar and manually add all those fret positions and articulations back in. It seems to be a good compromise that is working well for me.

    Funeral Songs

I thought I would share a few pieces here since I don't know where else would be more appropriate. None of these are originals, although the arrangements are (a counter-argument can be made for the last piece) so I doubt I will ever have an opportunity to submit these for a taxi request. First is Be Thou My Vision, a solo acoustic guitar piece that has been in my repertoire for quite some time. I played it for my younger sister's funeral in December. She died very suddenly due to an extremely aggressive and unusual cancer over the Thanksgiving weekend. I finally got this to the point suitable for sharing. After playing the above at my sister's funeral, my other sister asked for me to do a version of Goin' Home for her funeral (yes, this has been on all our minds). This is also a solo acoustic guitar piece. Finally, for MY funeral y'all can play Ashokan Farewell. I never get enough of that. The instrumental version I came up with is heavily adapted from Jay Unger's video. It is for a small folk ensemble and took quite a bit of wrangling to get this presentable, but I like how it turned out. So, I'm now done with funeral songs and can return to other writing. I hope y'all enjoyed these and they brought you some needed comfort.
  3. I'm trying to save some disk space and noticed SampleTank 3 & 4 both take up about 200GB. I used to use ST3 to load up some of the old ST2.5 sounds - the old SampleTron and eSoundz. If I no longer need those, and I don't have ST3 sounds in any project files (they I know of), is there any reason to keep ST3 installed? Thanks for your opinions.
  4. I see this in the description: Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition is the highly anticipated expansion to Hollywood Orchestra. Is this a stand-alone product?
  5. I got the Focus Bundle for $84 thru EveryPlugin.
  6. A sale similar to this was my first stepping stone on the way to Mercury.
  7. The manual is at http://amplesound.net/en/Main_Panel_Manual-AGM.pdf. A good keyswitch summary is at http://amplesound.net/dl0822/ds/Keyswitches(Helmut)v1.6.zip. it needs a slight update but is still very useful. I have it available on my desk ALL the time. But I found it best to study the MIDI demos at http://amplesound.net/en/download.asp. Please note that the free Lite versions have quite a few limitations. They are only meant for you to get a feel for the sounds (which are great) and GUI (which also is good). As a big user (and fanboy) and picky guitar player (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk 😁) , I can tell you I have been able to do everything I've needed to with Ample Sound instruments. I highly recommend them.
  8. Oooh! A link please. All the links I found (Cakewalk, KVR, Matrixsynth, Patcharena, and even Wayback Machine) were all dead.
  9. Now that I succumbed to iLok, I got on board with this deal - only to find out Nugent offers a non-iLok option to register their plugins! Just thought I'd share that in case someone else didn't know. Don't let iLok stop you from getting Nugent plugins!
  10. Doesn't Sampletekk have 90% off sales fairly often? I could save another $5.
  11. Any ideas how Connector is different from these: https://vac.muzychenko.net/en/ https://vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm
  12. Thank you for posting this! I didn't know this existed. Does it ever go on sale? No Indiginus Sounds (it's my folk fiddle of choice) nor Ilya Esimov's Russian strings (not a biggie). BUT, they DO have Ample Sound (big YAY on this), EW, Spitfire, and NI, as well as OT which you already mentioned. They even have a small free version for Cakewalk and Spitfire's Discover. This seems pretty nifty to me, but I can't figure out if I can add my own mappings for the libraries they don't current handle.
  13. Sheesh, so may to choose from. Not even sure where to start.
  14. Maybe this is the hard way to get what you want, but I assign each instrument in the single instance of Konakt to its own MIDI channel. Then in each track I assign the particular instrument to Kontakt with the particular channel of interest.
  15. After installing this I got my first ever bug/crash with Studio One. I heard a pop and then the Master volume was pegged at max red volume. No sound. I couldn't get the master volume unpegged no matter what I clicked/dragged. It was fix by saving and restarting Studio One. it's been fine since then.
  16. Looks like these have been around a while. The blurb seems to indicate it is best to use a modern OS like Vista to fully utilize more memory in 64b systems. Also, the blurb states a requirement is the iLok Security Key (not supplied). Does anyone know if these work with the software version? Or is the USB licenser require? Thanks....
  17. So this spurred me on to proceed with an iLok license and, sheesh! What a bunch of hoops and complications to get thru to get this to work. Go here and do this. Go there and do that. Go back here and... There seem to be better ways nowadays. But, if I want these, I'm gonna go ahead and do it. Now that I have the UVI workstation, what else do I use it for? I apologize, these are probably off topic.
  18. Waiting for part 2 of the article....
  19. I never understood why anyone would use this as a plugin. I just run it as a Windows Audio device outside of the DAW. That way EVERYTHING that comes out the speakers goes thru this first. No need to remember to turn in on/off during mixdown. Can someone tell me the advantage of using it as a plugin? I'm not getting it. Thx! For the OP, I suggest doing just that. Don't use it as a plugin.
  20. I heard back from Ben and he said he couldn't get Cubase to include any automation in the XML export. He'll keep fooling with it, though. But I don't have much hope it will come to much. The MIDI export includes the various CC controls. That may be enough, I think.
  21. In case someone needs it: https://quietmusic.eu/
  22. Thank you for your insight Matt. It sounds like these will be useful to me.
