    Resolution

Hi Robert. Don't worry about your ego here. Starting as a complete novice on this forum, I have learned a tremendous amount about songs, song structure, recording and particularly about using DAW's. Without the help and advise received on this forum, I would have been stuck - and - it all of this learning was relatively painless. Now about the song. Actually, I liked it and thought that it was quite good. It had a good interplay between the two leads and as Bjorn mentioned above the bass and drums fit in nicely. As it is now, it has a relatively stripped down structure and sound. I argued with myself (a bad trait of mine) about that. I really like the sound as it is. It allows one to concentrate on the song and instrumentation itself. It is a very cheerful sounding piece and perhaps it shouldn't be complicated. On the other hand, as suggested above, more structure (e.g., more instrumentation, fills, etc.) would add more depth. However, that might not be where you were trying to take the song. The argument with myself ended up pretty much a draw but slightly on the less complicated side. Anyway, I am glad that you posted this song. I enjoyed it!

    Skin Tight

Ya, it does have that '80's sound. Terrific performance and production. The guitars (bass and 6 strings) really carry the song and the vocals are excellent --- but --- the live drums are the icing on the cake. It has been a while since we heard something from y'all and I'm glad that your back. Keep 'em coming Bapu!
  3. Cool! "High energy" --- that might be considered as an understatement. Excellent performance, great playing, top notch mix --- definitely A+ marks all the way around. However, that seems to be what you do! Really professional sounding work Bats.
  4. Hi John. Another nice song from you. This one also carries the emotion that some of your other songs have presented. You really get a wonderful introspective match of vocals, lyrics, melody and instrumentation that conveys this emotion. BTW, I like the reverb on the vocal backup fillers. Really good stuff --- thanks for posting.

    Hey There

Hey all! Sorry for the delay in responding -- but things have been just too doggone busy. Hi Rik. Thanks for listening and commenting. Also, thanks for the heads-up on the lead guitar solo volume. Now that things have calmed down a bit I am going to give a look/listen to both the both the bass and guitar volume. Hi John. Thank you! I am very glad that you liked it and I very much appreciate the encouragement. In writing my SC description, I was under no desire of or delusion of commercial success. I knew that I was only entertaining myself with the ever so slight chance that others might might find a giggle in my folly. Who might that "somebody else I know" be? Hi Daryl. The Travelling Wilburys? Wow, I certainly appreciate that! Thanks very much for taking the time to listen and comment. I really appreciate it.
  6. Now this is indeed my fav of your music (at least until the next one). How do you get that vocal sound --- a bit of double tracking ????? This is a bit more melodic that I have heard from you before and it has a nice sound to it. However, the Jesse signature is still there. The lyrics are great and that acoustic rhythm really carries the song along. Nice touch with the organ sound. The lead guitar work is really nice and adds some nice accents to the over all feel of the lyrics and song. Good stuff Jesse!!!!!
  7. Welcome back to the forum Lynn. We have missed your contributions to the form. If you are too busy to do a bit of music, then you must be to doggone busy. No crit's from me on this one. The lyrics and message are excellent. You really have put in some strong vocals in this song and the harmonies are great. Oh ya, the little falsetto whoo hoo's at the end -- very cool!!!! I really love the strong bass playing off of the distorted guitar panned left. Excellent work!
  8. You certainly captured that laid back, tear-in -your-beer country sound on this instrumental. Excellent guitar work and composition. I totally enjoyed this song.

    Stay

Wow this is a real pro number. Not just the video but the music is excellent. Ya the vocal is excellent but so is the instrumentation. The distorted instrumentation is very attracting when matched with some very powerful vocals. Excellent!!!
  10. This is a really nice rock-pop song. I agree it is indeed radio ready. I also echo the comments above about the vocals and the BGV's --- very cool! Oh ya, nice lead guitar break as well. Well done!!!

    Love is Like

Really great lyrics, vocals, instrumentation, arrangement, performance, and production. That says it all. This is indeed a beautiful song.
  12. What a beautiful song John. Losing someone that your dearly love is always tragic. I am indeed sorry for your loss. My wife and I have been together since we were 18 and I just can't imagine losing her. I wouldn't change a thing on this song if I were you. You have captured a moment of great emotion in this song. You can feel the sadness and distress in this song. Your vocals ---- they are perfect in this song. They captured a moment, a feeling and a loss of a tragic time. I don't think that this could be captured if you re-did it or if someone else were to do it. Really good work John.
  13. Hey Paul ---- this is a heartfelt and beautiful song. The lyrics really express strong introspective emotions and the melody certainly brings that message home. I really like the acoustic guitar work and the introduction of the other instrumentation as the song went on. Your vocals really complemented the message of the lyrics. I agree with SPAK above --- this does have a touch of the Peter and Gordon vibe. Nice one!!!

    Hey There

Hi John. Thanks very much for the kind words! Congratulations for 35 years with the Ms. W. I guess that I am old fashioned enough to appreciate long term relationships. BTW, I really like the recent song that you posted. Hi Tom. I always appreciate and respect your comments and suggestions. So, I'm going to have to take a look (perhaps more of a listen) at that bass. Thanks for taking the time to comment and for the encouragement. Hey Allan. Thank you!!! I'm glad that you liked it. I appreciate the encouraging comments.
  15. Add me to the chorus of kudos (I love alliterations -even if they are only close) above. This is indeed a cheery pop-ish song that does make one want to whistle along. Thanks for your statement concerning why you are doing music and why you participate on this forum. I think that maybe there are a few of us on this forum are involved for the very same reason. I find my efforts are not only fun (for me) but also therapeutic. I always feel better after arguing with my computer, trying to figure out Cakewalk's nuances and then finally completing something. I enjoyed this song --- thanks for posting.
  16. Great lyrics and really a great music/arrangement complement the lyrics wonderfully. The performances by the Mrs. and you are absoflippinlutely an aural treat in listening. This song has your signature and it is always a pleasure to hear your song. Keep 'em coming.
  17. What a nice happy, cheerful song. A great melody and lyrics carry it right along. Your vocals are excellent as are the harmonies. Mix sounds good to me. Nice one!!!

    Blind Boy Blues

Hi Rik. I'm sorry to hear about your eye concerns and wish that things will improve for your. I really appreciated your posting this song. It conveyed emotion -- all without lyrics. I believe that is what the old Blues guys used to call letting your guitar do the talking. You also demonstrate that Blues of this style are not all about how many notes that you can cram into a 12 bar run but more about how each note is used and approached. Really nice stuff pal.
  19. Beautiful song and video. I can appreciate your loss. I was fortunate enough that our dog was with us for 19 years. It was truly like losing my best friend.

    Hey There

Hi Bjorn. Thank you. I really appreciate your comments and encouragement. How about that --- I got the reverb right for a change. BTW, I really enjoyed your recent post. I am still chuckling. Hi amiller. No prejudice on my part but it seems to me everything sounds better with a bit of rockabilly or blues. Thanks for listening and for your comments. Hey David. I really appreciate your kind comments. I did not use a VST plugin for the lead guitar. I couldn't find the right sound for anything that I tried. So, I pulled out my old DigiTech RP50 stomp box processor. I found a setting (10 - F) on this that gave me the sound for which I was looking. I don't know if they even make The RP50 anymore. Thank you Douglas. I very much appreciate your taking the time to listen and comment. I am very much a sucker for searching out real good deals on guitars and have added a couple more to what you see in the picture. I also lost a very good friend a couple of years ago and he left me his guitars (much to my wife's chagrin). Hi Tom. I like your Ralph Murphy quote. It kind of hits the nail on the head doesn't it. My signal chain --- hmmmm --- it is not very complicated. As I mentioned to David above I did not use a VST for the FX on the lead guitar (which I assume you are referencing). I used my Fender Strat and plugged it into the DigiTech RP50 which went directly in to my audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i 4 - first generation). I did use the Sonitus Equalizer to balance the sound for which I was looking. Then all tracks were bounce to one track and I used this track to get my final mix. I used the Sonitus Multiband Equalizer to get a final balance. I used Stero Channel look at the volume levels and then Boost 11. Oh yes, I recently got the Wave WLM loudness meter to try and get the mix to EBU standards. And that is it. I really appreciate your kind comments and your suggestions. Thanks very much! Hey Paul. Thank you very much for listening and your very kind comments. The Traveling Wilburys --- cool!

    Forever

Hi Paul. Thanks very much for your kind comments. Ya, every once and a while Freddy J can be an old softy. Hey Wookiee. Thanks much for the kind words and encouragement. BTW, I really like your new post.
  22. I love this. What a clever piece. I had a smile all over my face and at times even laughed out loud. Great music, really clever lyrics, and a great video. Who could ask for more?
  23. This has a big sound that reminds me of Star Wars or some of the other SciFi films that I have seen. Excellent piece that seemed professionally done. Well done!!!
  24. Excellent!!! The music is most impressive as is the vocal performance. The music has a very majestic sound that certainly complements very poignant lyrics. All of this in turn is complemented by a very impressive. Good luck with the album!
  25. Hey Jesse, I'm having the same problem as Tom above. I can't get the link to work.
