Hi Lynn, lots of twists and turns as always , Loved the radio vocal bit .. guitar was great , I prefere yor voice without the delay  though lots in there super song ..P

Thank you, Paul, for your encouraging words.  This is the first song that I used a ping-pong delay on a lead vocal, so consider it an experiment.  Stay well!

    Lynn,

This is just a terrific production from the "mysterious" intro to the Santana'ish guitar riffs.    Also really like how you have done the drums and percussion on this track.    Very cool song.

    Regards

Mark, I should have given you some of the credit because you gave me the idea for the breaks between the verses and choruses.  I'm using the drum kit that you turned me onto with our prior song.  You've had a big influence on me this year!

Very interesting start and the various breaks and re-starts ... I think Paul Bush has a point with your vox and I tend to agree.

I have listened a couple of times and am not sure if it comes across as a little fussy in places .. but it works as a mix, perhaps you could work the beginning bit into the song somehow as it has a spooky feel to it .. I dunno .

For what it's worth I like the song .. message leaves me to think your feeling your age my friend ... great work Lynn

Steve, thanks a million for your comments!  It's funny, I never thought of the beginning as "spooky", but you may be onto something in regard to working it into the song elsewhere.  You may be right about feeling my age ;), though in some ways this message is about a younger person learning the ropes of life (for some of my millennial friends).  Your ideas have always been beneficial to me!

  2. The VX 64 Vocal chain came with an older version of Sonar and is not included with CbB.  If you have an old Sonar edition, it can be custom-downloaded from the installation disc.  The SSL EV2 Channel stereo plug-in is from Waves and can be purchased from them.  As you see in the video, any plug-in can be added via the f/x chain module in the Pro Channel strip.  If these are unavailable to you, not to worry, there are many free VST's that can fill in for these plug-ins.

  3. Ahoy, mates!  Here is a song that I recorded in July, but just finished the mix a few days ago.  My friend, Roger Fife, played bass on this, and I did the rest.  As always, the mix is still open, and I welcome your thoughts, suggestions, etc.  I appreciate your time and good ears!  Btw, for those who are curious, I do all my work in CbB, using plug-ins from CW, Waves, Melda, and various free vst's.

I replaced the ping-pong delay on the verses with a simple 1/8 note delay (except for a word or two), and left it only on the choruses.   I dialed both delays back a notch.   I also turned the lead vocal and bass down a tad.  Hopefully, this makes the vocal more discernable.  Thanks everyone for your help!

  4. Terrific song, Paul!  As noted above, there are a few awkward transitions, timing-wise, but those can be fixed.  The rest of the mix is just fine.  Your voice is just right, and the guitars rock.  The mix is so good that those timing issues are clear, so I hope you take a little time to finalize this.  It's well worth it!

  5. This is one of your best experiments, yet, Jesse!  I love the tempo change, backward recording, and unexpected panning in this mix.  The lyrics speak to me, and your guitar tracks are outrageous.  Quite a niche you've created!

  6. What a great album this is!  As always, you're very creative and inventive in your production.  I like seeing clips of the band performing mixed in.  Any chance of a live recording someday?  The only thing that stood out was that I had to turn up the playback quite a bit, but I have to do that with Steely Dan, as well.  Stay well, Nigel!

  7. It's good to hear from you, Tim!  This is a good rock song with a magnetic guitar riff.  It really draws you in.  This is one of the loudest masters I've heard in a while, which is OK, though it lacks dynamics, imo.  It seems that nearly everything is the same volume all through the song making me miss the highs and lows of a great mix.  I just don't hear it breathing, yet.  But, a really cool song that needs very little tweaking to put it over the top.

  8. Terrific song, John.  The lyrics are spot on!  All in all, a solid recording and mix.  You've helped so many people over the years with your tutorials, and it's good to see that you were able to help yourself :)

  9. This is a good start to something.  Your snippets keep improving, though, I'd like to hear a completely realized song from you someday.

    Rain

Smooth is the word that comes to mind; a pleasant trip that brings back a lot of memories.  Your production is spot on, as are the performances of the band.  You always seem to be picking up steam.  Keep up the good work, Barry!

  10. This is a good song on several levels; the mix is clear and balanced, the performances are strong and emotive, and it makes my feet move!  I don't hear too much sibilance, but I never do, so take it with a grain of salt.  Encore!

  11. Very cool!!  I wasn't expecting this, but enjoyed this very much.  I love versatility.  Technically, it is very professional, yet conveys the joy you put into it.  More

  12. Steve, your creativity knows no limits.  I love the arrangement of this tune because it's unpredictable and quirky.  I wonder if you've listened to Ben Folds, as you share some of his vision, though, yours is unique.  You're one of my favorites because I never know what to expect from you!

  13. This is a good way to start this day, or any other.  It has that epic feel that you have mastered over the years.  You always make me love synthesizers and want to do something similar someday.  I always appreciate your dedication to your listeners!  Keep it up!

  14. Terry, your voice brings back a lot of good memories from the old forum.  I like this song very much, and it sounds like you've grown since the last time I heard you.  The mix is nicely balanced, and your vocal is clear and strong.  Have you come back to CW?  If so, I look forward to hearing more from you in the future!
