  1. Gary, you got the reverb level just right on this song. Batsbrew has some good ideas, but you seem receptive and I'm sure you'll turn this into a gem. What a voice!
  2. I love this! I often feel this way, myself. Your vocal is an asset on this tune, so let it shine.
  3. Thanks Bjorn for you thoughtful input and taking the time to listen. Sorry you don't like the horn section, but I'm glad you like the other parts of the song. Btw, your new song is fabulous! Can't wait to hear it again.
  4. Thank you so much for your kind words! Sometimes you get so full that it comes pouring out like tears.
  5. Tom, I completely redid the bass drum throughout the song. I had started out with preset grooves from SD3, but they had too much swing factor, so I hand programmed them with more of a straight feel. Thanks for your thoughtful input! It helps
  6. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen. Thanks, Steve for your time and comments. I'll work on the mix. Daryl, thanks mate! You're not the only one to point out the percussion issue. I'm working on that.
  7. I'm very concerned about what's happening on our Mexican border so I wrote this song. I'm trying to stay neutral on this, so I'm not calling anybody out, just drawing attention to the situation. The song can be found here: https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v4/player.cfm?songID=13899237 Edit (7/16): I redid the bass drum throughout this per suggestions from several of you. Lyrics: Raise your banners high Show them off with pride Let your spirits fly Swim against the tide There’s no way to ignore the crisis on the border The danger’s less or more to slip into disorder The cost of living in a land of liberty That’s the price we pay so we can all be free CHORUS: I remember when our children were the future Throughout history we took the time to nurture Now the day has come we just don’t hear them crying We took their hopes away and stole their silver lining Independence Day used to mean so much But, lately something’s changed It feels we’re out of touch CHORUS We keep on finding ways to break a mother’s heart Her baby’s in a cage, her family’s torn apart CHORUS

Gary, your voice is the star instrument in this song. You've done an excellent job of putting together your voice with the backing tracks into a larger than life production. Nashville would be proud of you! Good luck with your album!

I agree with Tom, I couldn't have said it better. Your work and effort shine here so hit us in the face! Carry on, bro...
  10. I think you're referring to the sound that I know as "rubber bass" or "rubber band bass". If you have it, the patch "Rubber Bass" is in Z3TA +2 Classic Factory Content. If that's not the sound you're looking for then, nevermind...

    Night Beach

I have to agree with this. I could hear the waves crashing on shore all the way through this, but I overlooked the stars. One of your best, Wookie!
  12. This is so beautiful and intricate that I had to listen several times to take it all in. This is the kind of music that puts me in a good mood all day long. Kudos!
  13. Fantastic work, gentlemen! Jesse, you and Freddy are perfect together. Kudos for the vocal, which stands out and provides the element of danger that is so relevant for this song. Freddy, you hit this one out of the park. I need an ice cream cone...
  14. Listening to your music is like comfort food for me. I missed the first mix, apparently, but this sounds great. Your blues harp is excellent, and everything else is so tight! Slinky is not just a toy, but is ready for mature audiences everywhere. Rock on, Freddy!
  15. Great rock song, Bob! I really like the change at the 2:30 mark that shifts gears before a classic solo. You write some of the best rock lyrics going, and they always fit the genre like a glove. Do you write the music first, or the lyrics, or some combination of both methods? I'd love to hear this song on the highway the next time I take a road trip. Since this is only a test mix, the one thing that stood out was the bass drum. It's a great part, but it overwhelms the bass guitar somewhat. Otherwise, this is a gem! Your consistency has always been one of your strengths, and still one of my targets. I've learned a lot from you. All the best!
  16. Daryl, you've done a terrific job with this. It helps to have a good song, yet, you've made it better. This is polished, balanced, and ready for the masses. Keep up the good work, mate!
  17. I want to second what Bob said! Very eclectic and experimental to my ears. I enjoy the various textures and samples that come and go in this song, as well as the overall jazz vibe. The mix has everything that I look for; balance, clarity, feel, and surprises. Listening to you is kind of like opening a Christmas present, you never know what you'll get (unless it's from aunt Jane). Congratulations, Tom!

    FALLEN

Wow, this is a very poignant song that I can relate to. It's all good to my ears, and I'm particularly impressed with the background vocals and lyrics. Keep em rollin'.
  19. John, I just got back from my internet vacation and finally got around to hearing this. First, this is a lovely eulogy for your pet and one that helps us share the loss with you. For the technical stuff: The flute at the beginning still overwhelms the piano, but after a while it seems to balance out OK. From 2:50 to 3:00, the scale doesn't seem quite right between the strings and piano. There's dissonance there, which may be the way you planned it. I can grok that. Finally, exactly what role does Easy Keys play in this arrangement? I ask because I'm curious about this software program, as I'm not a very good keyboardist, myself. All in all, you hit the mark from a gut level.
  20. Make sure your echo input button is on if you want to hear the track live.

Andy, you and your son have created a lovely piece of music that is full of texture and movement. I hope this is the start of something that you two can expand on. Hope you remain a contributor for a long time!
  22. Martins, I use an AKG Perception 220 for my vocals and acoustic guitar. It's inexpensive, but it was patterned after a Neumann U-87. I run it into a Focusrite Platinum Voicemaster channel strip. John, thanks for you kind words. I owe this to the community who always come through with good advice. Hi Andy, it's good to hear from you! A big difference in my mixing technique occurred when I picked up a set of Sennheiser HD 300 Pro headphones. Knowing that many people listen on headphones and earbuds, I paid more attention to them during the post production than ever before. I'm glad to hear that it translates well for you. Thanks for responding!
  23. Gary, thanks for your kind words again. Very encouraging! Steve, you are so right about having fun. I never pined to be a singer; it just happened out of necessity, but I do love singing. That was my old band WIFE in that video which was our first and was produced by my friend Mike Moors who was the keyboard player in the video. Thanks for mentioning that!
  24. Gary, this is a pleasant song, and you've managed to fix some of the glitches that I heard earlier. I can hear the joy in your voice which is a very good quality for a song of faith. I have only two minor suggestions: one, I would boost the bass guitar a bit, and two, I would make the vocal just a bit drier so that it's more in your face and intimate. Other than that, this is good to go, and congratulations on your first!

Bjorn, you should be working with National Geographic and supplying music for their videos. I love this song and the way you made it with samples. The arrangement evolves smoothly, giving this song depth and subtlety. This is master class writing and recording!
