Very pleasant piece and definitely has a birdsy woodsy light open feel to it. Great first attempt. I been writing more instrumentals in recent years, if this was my piece I would have some changes in dynamics here and there for a bit of drama, and I would probably put a very low volume pad or some low notes in the bottom range to kinda bring it all together through the different phases of the song.  Enjoyed it and my imaginary trip to the woods.

Thankyou for the comments, all of which I will address on a revisit . As said, when it comes to this stuff I am a newbie so I'm knocked out with your post 😊

  2. Hi Bjorn,

I think overall this piece is mesmerizing but I do feel it's unfinished. I think using the same drum pattern all the way through is a great idea but it should change, just a little to keep the listener engaged with the vox, the flute is also used a little too much and I feel it could be made more interesting if you altered the melody a tad. I have most of NIs samples and there is a way of putting more 'feel' into the overall sample ( not sure if your keyboard has after touch as this could assist in this respect)  As you are aware I listen to your work, and have done with pleasure over the years and along with others on this site I always enjoy your tandem videos.

I really liked this bit of work and as you know I'm no expert advising on instrumentals so if you don't wanna revisit this you won't break my heart 💔

    Stay well my friend

You know if I could write and perform like this I would always be looking for Sync opportunities so I can quit my day job.    Sounds great.  Good luck.

Thankyou for the feedback John, I am glad you liked it.

Enjoyed the track, some good sounding sample libraries used on this. Listened on headphones & to me the cello sounds like it's from a different library than the others used. It has a slightly different timbre, sound field image (or maybe the reverb is baked in) but great job overall.

Thanks mate ..for the record it's all BBC samples other than the NI NOIRE piano sample.  I think the mixing is off a bit but I'll play with it some more .... maybe🎻

    Stay well

I like how you used the whole range of your instruments.  Piano was hypnotic.     nice tone painting of birds in a forest.

Thanks David ...I might not do another one but I really appreciate you listening 😊

Steve, I really like this one! Lovely melody, a bit classical sounding. I think the strings need to be toned down a bit and maybe not so much swell to them. I thought the tempo was too fast on first impression but now I'm not sure. I like the bird like high pitched flute (?).
Hope you do more of these.

Thanks mate, it's really a question of me getting older now and the fact that due to Covid it has been very quite in my toy room .. no work at all. As said I recently purchased a Komplete S88 to replace my Nectar 88 and it comes with a load of new sounds/samples ( I worry I may die before I get through them all ! LOL). There are so many really great instrumentals, yours among them, and although I am a words guy I thought I'd have a bash. I really like David Sprouse's stuff too as it invokes my creative edge.

Your comments are always well received my friend so look after yourself 👍

    Best regards

Steve ( BTW It was a piccolo sampled from Spitfire's BBC Orchestra, which I believe has a free version if your interested ..see ya 😎)

Sounds OK here this is just my own furry perspective the string piano balance is not quite right tin places.  Neither are prominent enough and tend to tread on each others feet.

Cheers Wooks, been looking at Guy Michelmore on the tube. This ain't my strong point so as a newbie my thanks to you for the I/P ;)

    Stay well

Hey Steve, your feedback means a lot to me, thanks for listening.  The samples are usually VSL.  The new synchron stuff is awesome.  But you have a good ear, I did use spitfire british drama toolkit.  :D:D

Thanks for the FB. I have been using Spitfire software for a bit lately. not the new Abby Road one yet as I've just added a Komplete S88 to the playroom and it is a bit on the  I'm gonna leave you if you buy another thing ! from the boss LOL. However I've always thought your stuff is what I might aspire too, so it was interesting to see what your using ... All the best and stay well .

    Best regards

  9. I loved it the first time and as the Wooks said sometime you have to move past the tech and just enjoy the work ... great vocal and keys. Great re-post thanks M8.

  10. Beautiful ... just beautiful ... any chance of acoustic guitar or harp to enhance the vibe  .. (I'm listening to it again now as I write .. getting sleepy .. sleepy  . .. .... .)

Steve, this is the first song I've heard from you that I can't make out the lyrics plainly.  The song itself is beautiful, and I would try turning up all vox before eliminating any of the background instruments.  Maybe a slightly wider soundstage would work in this mix.  I eagerly await your revision because this song is so close to being a gem.

Thanks Lynn and I always appreciate your input and time .. My thinking is to ditch this and start over .. truth is all these comments are, in fact, what I would have observed had it been someone else's work and as said it was a new way of recording with some new stuff ... we'll see 😏

Stay well mate (and I loved the collab you did  Freddie)

Love the song, the structure of the parts, the lyrics too! Your vocal has a very genuine quality to it.

For me, the drums are letting the side down a bit. They are mixed well back yet they are quite busy.  That's an odd combo that might be addressed. But here's what jumped out at me right away, listening to the first section around :30, you have your vocal, and a lot of other elements - buzzy power chord guitar, an arpeggiated guitar, a synth pad doing some little melodic noodles occasionally, and the drums buried far back, along with the bass. That's an awful lot of stuff right away all in competition, and kudos for making your vocal stick out amongst all of that!!!

You might drop the big fuzzy distorted power chord guitar out of things completely? Just as a trial? That's a wall of distant fuzz that if removed could let the drums back in, and things might breathe a bit. Believe me I know it's hard to say goodbye to a beloved part, but my vote would be "less is more" in this case.

This song comes across as a cool concept, especially with the nifty female vocal coming in - and the lyrics are really quite good, sung with feeling. Nice!

    cheers,

    -Tom

As usual Tom you have picked out the hardest things to change LOL. As said I will re-work the song with you observations very much at the forefront.

I tried a different method in the recording and mix, in that the main song was recorded and mixed separately from the vox ( recorded in a different session). It seemed to give a lot more CPU space when recording the vocal bits with FX,  and that bit worked but I think I got a bit cocky and in the first take and used 'air' far too much!

This 2nd attempt seemed better but I needed a little help with the song in general ...and now with your comprehensive comments I have it. I always enjoy your input here on this site and I thank you for taking so much time with this work 😉

    Stay well

Thanks for listening and I think it's back to the old drawing board, you comment is much appreciated and I will work on it!

  14. Sounds good but not great  ... then again on the 2nd listen I felt something's missing to bring it through  . not sure if Bapu has a point but give a different drum score to it and see if it changes the vibe .. perhaps move on with the tune ... Bit more salt and pepper maybe  ... I did like it though 😊
