  1. My first Bond film was Thunderball. My dad dropped my brother and I at the theater and hit the bar. I was seven, my brother was eight. We sat through the show twice. My dad was really mad. Sean Connery rocked. RIP

  2. Yeah, man! Riff rock! You always do such great stuff. Like all your other works, this one is my favorite. :)

PS: I'm gonna steal some of your licks. Just saying.

  3. I'm not sure how I missed this one! I really loved it, very imaginative changes and a bass line for a lead melody, great! Ooh! I just saw that you have a release 3, back in a flash.

Just listened to mix 3, is my imagination or are the vocals clearer, maybe less compressed? Perhaps I'm mis-remembering. Whatever  you did,  I like this one better.

  4. I'm always taken aback at how clean synth-based track mixes are, a momentary surprise at the start, then I'm into it. Really great lead sounds here! I would have sworn you have an electric slide guitar in there.  Really nice,  smooth and relaxing melody. Great work!

  5. Blimey, mate, those vocals! You have a really great voice and this melody makes great use of it. I envy your falsetto skills, very nice. The mix is really nice, clean but smooth, nothing harsh about it.

I'd consider pushing that awesome falsetto high harmony back a bit in the chorus, it seems to me that  it's burying the lead vocal.

    Love your stuff!

  6. Really dug the driving beat on this one and the arrangement, instantly memorable. The monotonic delivery is exactly right, along with the ominous "don't laugh at me." I love this one, it's going on the play list.

The mix is great but my none-too sensitive ears are hearing a build up in the mids that kind of clouds up the lower frequencies of the vocals. Maybe it's all those delays piling up? Anyway, it's a very cool song and I really liked it.

  7. I just finished this one this evening. This one was tough for me. It turned into an exercise in how to put some urgency and energy into an 80 bpm song. :)

Your comments and critique on the mix is most welcome.

Update: New mix, taking care of the scritchy thing and some levels with lows and leads. Also, I borrowed a page from George Martin and sped up the mix to about 84 bpm. World of difference. Should have started there!

    Oh yeah, here's the lyrics.

    Gone, Baby, Gone
    Kevin Walsh 10/28/2020

    verse 1

two men by a broken shack
two go in but one comes back
yeah we know what's going on
that man was here but now he's gone

    chorus

ooh yeah he's gone baby gone
ooh yeah he's gone baby gone baby gone

    verse 2

she stood framed in black and white
the kind of luck that fades at night
the room beyond the door was bright
two steps she knew would change her life

    chorus
ooh yeah he's gone baby gone
ooh yeah he's gone baby gone baby gone

    verse 3
she claimed she had second site
she said the spirits came at night
heard their cries beyond the grave
didn't know which one to save

ooh yeah he's gone baby gone
ooh yeah he's gone baby gone baby gone

ooh yeah he's gone baby gone
ooh yeah he's gone baby gone baby gone

  8. Vocals are great! If you want the wall of sound I think you need three more drummers, three more piano players and about six more guitar players all gathered in a high school gymnasium (with the floor freshly waxed.)  :D I think a little more breadth in the instruments would be nice.  I read once that ZZ Top would push doubled guitar tracks out wide left and right and then de-tune one of them just a few cents to the that massive sound. I keep meaning to try that one of these days.

Oh yeah, and the keys are nice,  they worked here for me.

One other thing; there's a bunch of videos on Youtube on creating dense mixes without  muddying things up.  Here's one I found on just vocals that looks pretty good.

  9. Nice laid back vocal style really works with this tune, clever vocals delivered with heart. I agree with Barry about the mix, a little hot maybe, or there's something being compressed to hard causing some distortion maybe.  Nice guitar work too, I always hear that first.

    Nice job. :)

This is stellar; it just shimmers. Everything is so clear, it sounds like you're sitting on my shoulder. Love it.

I especially like how it started; it sounds like some recording of a dude in his bedroom, with guitar sounds, raspy voice, rustles, etc. Then, when the full mix kicks in it's a delight.

Only crit I'd have is that the 12-string needs tuning and there are places where I can't tell if it's a subtle ride cymbal or 'tape hiss.' But sometimes that's charming.

    This is great stuff.

lol, your description of the beginning is exactly right. My office/studio is a spare bedroom and I clicked on the mic and noodled about.  Man,  you have good ears, Barry.

It does sound like there is a wandering cymbal in there. I have a very difficult time with high frequencies and I wouldn't have noticed it without you mentioning it. I'm embarrassed that I couldn't tell that the guitar is out of tune, doh! It's not actually a 12 string, it's a Martin D16X that I went back and doubled in places with my trusty Strat into S-Gear with a very clean setting.

    Thanks for your feedback!

That's a cool song and I really liked your lead vocal - first time I've heard it.  I enjoyed the listen very much - nicely done.

Clever ending as well - good job there.

It looks like you've remixed it - I think the mix sounds fine to me.

Thank you, Douglas, I really appreciate your feedback.

Have to spread the love ;) so I am  just listening to the first track "Shot in the Back", mix works well here, nice sense of clarity, some cool tones, good job, thanks for sharing.  If i get the chance later I will pop back and listen to some more.

Thank you! Glad you took the time to listen and to provide some feedback!

    PAIN

You weren't kidding, it is loud! You really gotta have some subs for this one, and unfortunately I don't have subs but it's a cool melody. My only nit is the lack of variation in the dynamics of the piece. It's largely the same all the way through the song, and the drums are buried pretty deep. I'm not too well-schooled in EDM so my comments are worth what  you pay for them!

  13. Beautiful piece with a really nice, smooth mix. Love the melody. The piano bits at 2:09 didn't bother me but Mark's probably much smarter than me on this stuff. I would like to have heard a  bit more variation in the dynamics of the piece, but you can't really fault what it is right now, so take that with a grain of salt.

I loved it, I really did.

  14. Loved the changes. You have a way with re-stating themes that makes me want to buy a book on harmony. The mix is perfect as is the ambiguous ending. Really nice stuff. I'm going to have to check out your other work on your youtube channel.

Liked this alot, maybe the record company will call!  I really liked the dry sound of the instruments and voices.

I don't think record companies call anymore, do they? Thanks for listening, David!
