    Clock

Keep in mind. if there is ANY audio coming from the DAW, the clock must be set to Audio so the DAW can use the audio interface sample clock.

What I cannot recall, is whether or not I altered the category from Uncategorized, to Synth

I looked in the default library.db which contains categories for some VST2 plug-ins. Synthmaster is not in there so when the plug-in is first added to the CbB VST Inventory it would be in the Uncategorized folders (there are FX and synth versions of the plug-in) when using the "Sort By Category" layout.

    WRT the OP -

When looking for new plug-ins make sure to use one of the factory supplied "Sort By" layouts as they are the only ones dynamically updated. User built custom layouts must be manually edited to add new plug-ins.

The suggestion to look in the Plug-in Manager in the enabled and excluded Registered Plug-ins lists is a good one. This is done by running the Plug-in Manager and clicking on VST Instruments (VST2) in the "Plug-in Categories: column. To the right of this column the enabled plug-ins are displayed. To see the excluded plug-ins click the "Show Excluded" radio button below the "Plug-in Categories" column.

If the plug-in is in the excluded list, run a manual scan from preferences with "Rescan Failed Plug-ins" and "Generate Scan Log" enabled. After scanning make sure to disable "Rescan Failed Plug-ins" reset the scan drop down to your preferred setting. If is not listed, review the scan log.

Finally, if the rescan fails or the plug-in is not on the excluded list run a VST Reset using button on the same preferences page to completely rebuild the VST Inventory from scratch. If this is done, consider enabled "Generate Scan Log" when running reset to generate a complete report for every VST plug-in found.

  2. Workspaces can affect what parts of the UI are visible. Setting the Workspace menu to None shows the entire UI which is used by most of the images in the documentation.

The Track Control drop down contains track control presets and access to the Track Control Manager used to create and maintain the presets. The Track Control Manager allows the user to decide which controls should appear in the track header. There is a Track Inspector for each track which shows all the controls regardless of the Track Control drop down setting. Here is the image from the track inspector link above for the MIDI tab on an instrument track. This tab shows the same data as a MIDI track inspector. The Channel drop down is just above the drop down pointed to by "C"

+1% does not work, if this 1% is lower than 1, so if the value is 50, 1% is 0,5, CbB doesn't ad 0,5 to the value! The value must be at least 100, so there must be another way to add 1% with values less than 100.

Rarely does multiplying a percent with an integer result in an integer value and velocity must be expressed as an  integer. It appears the devs decided to use a common rounding function to arrive at the final value. Truncating or always rounding up may be valid approaches too. No method is perfect in this case.

In the Event Inspector for me only "-20" works, if I want to add values I have to use the Shift Key, means "(Shift)+20" for adding velocity.

If you use Autohotkey, here is a little script for adding and subtracting values to selected notes.

    1. Make a Shortcut ("A" in my script) in CbB for "Scale Velocity.

    2. With Autohotkey installed just select the notes and press

    Shift+(Numpad+) for adding 2% velocity

    Shift+(Numpad-) for subtracting 2% velocity

Spinner controls have the +/- on the numeric keypad bound to increase/decrease value. The +/- keys in the typewriter section of the keyboard may be entered directly in the spinner edit field. That is how it is on a standard US Keyboard. I suspect the typewriter keys for +/- on other keyboards work the same way.

  5. If "session" means project then yes, holding the SHIFT key while opening a project invokes safe mode. Safe mode allows one to skip all or some plug-ins while the project is opening.

Holding the SHIFT key while opening CbB does not invoke safe mode. This causes CbB to restore any files missing from the user directory.

If safe mode does not help check out this post

Vel. Velocity value of the selected event(s), specified as a value between 0 and 127. You can also use a modifier to raise or lower the current velocity value (+/- 0 through 127). You can also specify a percentage of the current velocity value. For example, to double the velocity, type 200% and press ENTER.

  8. Like most Windows program uninstalling BandLab Assistant does not remove what it has written to the registry. Bandlab Assistant uses the registry to keep track of what it has installed. It writes into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk\Installers. I cannot tell you which key contains the Melodyne install info because I already owned a full version of Melodyne and did no install the demo bundled with CbB.

The VST3 specification calls for all VST3 plug-ins to be installed into C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. Although CbB does not require all VST3 plug-ins be installed in the VST3 spec'ed directory it is a really good idea to follow the the spec. Melodyne as a Region FX uses the VST3 plug-in.

  9. The 8.5 updates are still on the old Cakewalk site

    https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/20091119/SONAR-8-5-2-Update

    https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007012920/SONAR-8-5-3-AudioSnap-Update

That said it is a big move from 8.5 to CbB (10 years of updates). I do not have EZD2 so cannot help with that one. As long as you are running a fully patched 7 or newer OS, CbB should work OK but there is quite a learning curve. CbB is developed and mostly tested on Win10.

I only have the 64-bit version of EZDrummer2 installed.

That is why I struck out the remarks about 32bit Toontrack. The images above show a 64bit Toontrack plug-in. 32bit VSTs do not show the standard header above the plug-in UI and SONAR/CbB append (32-bit) to the end of plug-in names in the plug-in layouts.

If CbB is uninstalled plan on re-installing SONAR as many of the shared files will likely be removed by the uninstall process.

  11. Do not use 32bit Toontrack plug-ins in 64bit DAWs. Bitbridge is only used when 64bit SONAR/CbB is asked to use a 32bit VST plug-in. This should not happen with Toontrack plug-ins as they provide 64bit versions of all of their plug-in line.

I looked up Guido Sconamiglio. He is the developer of GSi software. Is it possible some old 32bit GSi plug-ins are installed? It may be these plug-ins are trying to access parts of the registry or disk that have been secured by an OS newer than the one used to develop the plug-ins. Often times, this means running the DAW as administrator or changing permissions if one can identify what needs to be changed in order to use the plug-ins.

  12. This happens when a track has an automation envelope setup for volume.

It is easy to do by accident. Opening up automation lanes automatically creates a volume envelope.

There is a small indicator next to the Volume label above the slider if the track has volume automation.

To deleted a volume envelope change the edit filter drop down in the track header to automation, select Volume then right-click the envelope and delete it. Envelopes may also be deleted by opening the automation lanes and using the same process. Deleting the automation lane by clicking the - in the lane header does NOT delete the automation envelope.

If the volume automation was added on purpose and the track needs the entire envelope adjusted temporarily switch to offset mode.

For more info on automation see https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Automation.01.html
