I'm in the process of remixing my second solo album which was released in 2013. The album was recorded initially using Sonar X3. I opened the project in CBB and none of my third party plugins loaded. I decided to remix this track but only using the Pro Channel and the the plugins that came with Cakewalk. (Eq, compression, reverb etc) Guitar was recorded the old school way (miced up Marshall) using an MI Audio Crunchbox. The video was shot in standard definition back then so I tried the upscaling feature in Vegas to HD as a test and then re edited the video as well. It's come out much better than I expected. It also makes me think that maybe less is more regarding amount of third party plugins installed on my system.

Thanks so much for your comments Gary! Regarding the video, I use 3 Sony NX30 HD video cameras. I set them up before tracking to show various angles. I therefore end up with about 25 different video tracks of the various instruments which I then edit into a final production. Cheers!

My second collaboration with my good friend Alan Petersen. This song will be included on my upcoming fifth solo instrumental album. The song is in two parts with the second being very much in the Latin rock feel. This production was recorded and mixed with Cakewalk. The sessions were videoed and then edited in Magix Vegas. I used 10 mics to record the drums, bass was recorded directly via the Kemper Rack, guitars were also recorded directly with the Kemper. Piano was played on the Yamaha P45 using the Rhodes patch. Acoustic guitar was an Ibanez Artwood. There were a few VSTs used for the “ambient” synth sounds. My only regret was that I was unable to film the recording of the percussion tracks. Thanks Mark! I've recorded 4 solo instrumental albums (all 4 released on cd) and have now started my 5th. All four albums have had a mixture of clean and higher gain crunchy gtrs. I have found though that as time goes on my productions seem to have less crunch and more clean playing. Not sure why, maybe it's what I prefer to listen to these days. If there was a song of mine that is a favourite regarding the cleaner gtr tones it would be this one from my third album. Cheers!
