Want to save a couple of bucks with Bitwig studio?

Get an 8 track license, register it, then upgrade to Studio - $129.
    Search KVR
    https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=43
for "8track" or Bitwig  - you might score a free or cheap license.

I have Bitwig Studio 8-Track and the full upgrade is $259 for me ($359 - $100 summer sale discount).  Is the above the price for upgrade from 16-Track?

Based on the "I paid for this software" principle, users must be provided with the last updated version of the software available for download, backup and to continue using with Plugin Alliance's license.

    ...

All this said, because users paid for it, users are indeed absolutely entitled for those installers. Where are those installers available? - The PA ones users Paid For?

    https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/manage-plugins.html:

Click on the product and look under Downloads.

    For me, I see:

Go down to qualifying products.  As always with these group buys, check directly with the vendor’s promotion page.

The qualifying products are all FX related which Syntronik isn’t.

Longtime user of Cantabile here. The developer, Brad Robinson, is very responsive and interacts with the Cantabile user base regularly. He is constantly adding features requested by professional users. His focus is reliability followed by functionality. I like his approach to licensing, you can hang with the versions available during your first year indefinitely but renew the license (upgrade price) when you want newer features.

I use the software on a pair of 2013 i5-3360 Lenovo laptops with 16GB RAM and 2 TB SSD and Behringer UMC202HD's. One station is used with a converted acoustic kit into an eDRUMin and Superior Drummer at 64 buffers. The other is for synths, Hammond, Rhodes and Wurli emulations. The software instills confidence.

Indeed.  I like that licensing as well.  In addition, there are tiers to the licensing (including free) so you can pay only for the functionality that you use.  I'm just awaiting the MacOS release.

    Thanks for sharing your experience.

Low latency virtual guitar rig chains.

Now relegated more often to setup a virtual chain to capture with Tonex so I can use the same tone with hardware and low latency.

But that is also now less frequent as capturing the real thing sounds and feels better.

Then probably, the current GP PA version works well enough for you?  Using Windows or MacOS or both?  Using it live or for recording?

Are you using the TONEX Pedal (ref to hardware)?

This is what I was using before I got GP at a discount.  Site is having issues but this thing is basically free  https://kushview.net/element/

I tried Element before when I was looking for a plugin chainer that I could use in different VST hosts.  I found the free Waves StudioRack now works for that function after they enabled using 3rd party plugins.

    How were/are you using GP/Element?

Unless BF is going to have better prices (doesn't look like it according to Music Software Deals) I'm considering picking up a license at PluginBoutique and just sitting on it until I have the time to fully explore it so that I don't burn through my free upgrade window.

There wasn’t a discount but they did bundle a synth at one point.

  8. Perhaps it would be more productive to talk about alternatives to Gig Performer.  I feel that having competition is good for the market.

Here are some of my experiences/thoughts.

If on Windows only, Cantabile is the most obvious competitor to Gig Performer.  They have three tiers of their product (free, Solo, and Performer).  The principle design goals are stability, performance, and flexibility ... reminds me of Gig Performer.  Their updates are subscription based, like Bitwig.  They have an active community.  A Mac version is being worked on, but it's been several years and still hasn't been released.  I've only tried the free version.

Apple Mainstage (Mac only) ... cheap, only $30 ... includes the EXS instruments available in Logic.  Better (cleaner) looking interface than Gig Performer.

Steinberg VST Live ... still in its infancy ... clean interface, but a little buggy.  I picked this up for $50 when it was 50% off.  Definitely worth that price, given it comes with  Padshop 2, Retrologue 2, and HALion Sonic 7 with Pro / Artist / Basic Sets.  The way this works is more straightforward to me than GP4 ... with a more DAW-centric bus type of workflow, and is faster if all you want to do is have virtual instruments and just mix between them.

Studio One Professional Show Page ... similar to VST Live, I like the more DAW-centric design.  Set up "players" and save the presets for each song.  I like this as well, but for doing splits and transposes, have to create a multi instrument, explicitly adding another layer, whereas VST Live has that capability for every patch.  I'm still on S1 5 Pro--I don't know if they've made a lot of improvements in S1 6 Pro.

For doing basic stuff using the DAW-centric insert/bus paradigm which is most of the time for me when using keys, I find Mainstage, VST Live, or S1 Show Page is faster.  However, for more complex signal routing, Gig Performer and Cantabile are better suited for it ... especially for guitar (visually, just having a flowchart type of interface makes more intuitive sense when it matches how virtual wires are connected).

PluginGuru Unify ... can easily layer patches ... the only thing missing is being able to quickly change between patches in a setlist.  So, I've been playing around with using Unify within S1 Pro Show.

I've been looking for a VI host that I can give neophyte keyboardists and have them be able to layer patches and switch between patches in a setlist.  So far, VST Live is the most intuitive (though I've experienced some VI loading issues that may be buggy behavior, or something I don't understand).  Gig Performer is powerful, but too complex (and I would guess Cantabile would fall in this category as well).

Anyhow, what are other folks experiences?  Is Gig Performer the best solution for your use case or is something else working for you sufficiently or better?

    80% of that is Abandonware.

These plugins are fully supported on Windows.

    https://support.airmusictech.com/en/support/solutions/articles/69000801954-air-music-tech-windows-11-compatibility

For macOS, these plugins were updated for Big Sur (but with Rosetta, not Native):

    https://support.airmusictech.com/en/support/solutions/articles/69000801956-air-music-tech-macos-11-big-sur-compatibility

They’re still supporting these, but just doing compatibility fixes, no new features.  For mature plugins, that’s pretty good.

If you are on macOS, expect these will never be Apple Silicon Native (they have new SKUs that replace the functionality of these).  Otherwise, these are very good for the price.

I've used PSP InfinitiStrip quite a bit since it was on that deep sale and I'm so glad I picked it up. It's become one of my preferred FET compressors, the VCA compressor in it I really like, some of the EQs are fantastic and great saturation modules in there.

I'd love them to do an EffectsRack to includes some of their delays and reverbs, etc, or add them to the strip as well.

IK is more feature rich so gets the edge there by having them, but I still reach for InfinitiStrip more.

One thing I learned about PSP is that their plugins AFAIK are all zero latency, which is a huge plus if you're doing stuff live.  I regret that I missed that deep discount while I was researching and deliberating.  MixBox can build up a bit of latency depending on the modules used (not a problem if not using it live), but MixBox can still be used live--you just have to avoid certain modules that cause a lot of latency (to make it low or very low latency, but not no latency).

  11. Definitely a good deal for the price.  I agree with cclarry--it's a no brainer.

Do they still give the Sunset Sound Reverb Collection with new purchases or was that a temporary offer?

Also, I don't know the current relationship between MixBox and MixBox for iPad (which they made it free).  Not sure if the regular MixBox unlocks MixBox for iPad.  I bought both before and paid like $7 to unlock the SSRC.

Anyhow, definitely a powerhouse of a plugin.

It's a mixed bag really, so I'm not sure this is a bad thing, as InMusic seems to let companies run themselves as they were. With a lot of brands you wouldn't know they are part of InMusic nowadays. Let's take a look at some, and this is just what I observe so I might be wrong.

    - Alesis? Still doing what Alesis did, mostly drumkits and MIDI keyboards. No devalue.

Alesis now bundles a new BFD Player with some of their drum kits, so that's integration (Alesis and BFD) that makes sense.

  13. I have Amp Room.  Shows that I own all the other suites except for the Marshall Suite, which is $49 to upgrade.  When I apply the promo code, it jumps to $89.  🤷‍♂️

I have the Plexi, Silver Jubilee, and Bluebreaker, and Marshall Cab Collection.  The only one I know I’m missing is the JMP 2203.  Not sure what else I’m missing.

  14. Is there a major release version coming?  Right now, there's no reason to upgrade since the latest PA version of 4.5.8 matches the latest Deskew version 4.5.8.

I purchased GP4 for less than $99, so I don't qualify for a cross-grade--I don't think I'll rebuy a new version for full price.  What I have works well enough for my purposes, which is mainly testing out plugins (since it has incremental scanning, it has the fastest scanning of new plugins), but I haven't delved into more complex setups.

For keys, I think pretty linearly, in terms of inserts, and FX busses.  So, for what I want, for just a simple VI preset selector within the context of a song set, Studio One Pro Show Mode or Steinberg Live Pro are much easier to set up, though those are not as mature as GP.

I like GP, but not for $199.  I also think the graphics could use a bit of polish.

For some tasks I find it VS Code helpful, but I've been using Epsilon (emacs based) editor since the early 90s. Back then it was the only Editor I could find that was Unix/Windows cross platform, as I worked in both. Muscle memory persists to this day.

Thumbs up from this GNU Emacs user.  I remember using Epsilon on Windows (or was it MSDOS?).  Also used mg (back when memory and disk space was more precious).

If I was to treat my room, know of a cheap way to do it?

    https://ehomerecordingstudio.com/acoustic-treatment/

    If you're handy:

    • For acoustic panels, DIY with Owens Corning 703 (mentioned above), but you can find more detailed instructions in other forums.
    • For bass traps, you can DIY with fiberglass insulation.

That's still concerning because ChowTape is licensed under GPL v3 and there's no mention of it anywhere in the manual or the product page of Tape Scultpor nor can you see any links to its source code.

Since it's mentioned that it's "created in partnership with brilliant engineer Jatin Chowdhury", Impact Soundworks could be licensing some of the code directly from the author (of course it depends on how much of the code was his and how many was contributed, but he could always just rewrite the contributed code so none remains).

  18. I've had BIAS FX 2 LE since 2020 but haven't been using it.  This post got me to update and take a look at it again.  It now has three new Remaster Series amps (Blackface, Plexi Lead, and Treadplate).  The previous amps are now under Legacy Series.  I don't recall that Guitar Match was unlocked in LE before so it's nice to see that feature now available.
