These licenses work only for the hardware first activated on. If your motherboard dies you would need to purchase again (or any change to hardware significant enough to confuse the licensing server).  I've used these types of licenses before, you're activating against a volume license key.

I don't believe that's so. I bought one of these a while back and recently transferred the license to a new computer build with no problems. And I had another that I have upgraded the computer with a new motherboard and transferred Windows to a new drive and again had no problems.

  2. I was hoping for a deal like last year when Native Instruments had a deal for their "partner" U-he. I think it was 50% off on their synths. I never pulled the trigger on that deal last year and now NI doesn't even show U-he as a partner any more. I believe the fine print on this deal says that it can't be combined with any other offer. So, this may be as good as it gets. The deal expires December 7 so I might wait until the last minute to see if anything better comes around.

  3. I'm glad it's not just me having trouble with the download. I got 4 of the 8 files downloaded fine. The others only get almost to a gig on the download and then it craps out and can't be restarted. I've been trying for several days and at different times of the day and still no luck.

  4. I have the LX25+ and I like it a lot and have had no problems with using it with CbB.  Considering the price, I thinks it's awesome. However, if I have one complaint, it would be that the keys are somewhat noisy as they bottom out when playing with a little force. I've gotten used to it so I don't really even notice anymore. Also, I purchased my unit used so a newer unit might not be as noisy.

Microsoft has a compatibility hold for PCs that they will not offer Win10 2004 to. Apparently there are some hardware configurations that they are  aware of issues with.

According to that article, one of the main computers having problems with this version is the Microsoft Surface. Seems to be a bit of irony there

... The part that sounded like a meowing cat came across to me as a bit too cute.

That's pretty good! The actual name of that patch is "delay kitty." As I was auditioning sounds that one made me laugh and I didn't take it seriously. But after playing it back a few times, it sort of grew on me.

  7. Here is an old song of mine finally finished and brought up to today's technology. I have tons of old music that is mostly complete but that basically only exist as midi files in Cakewalk. In the past, that was essentially all I did was compose songs in midi using Cakewalk and playing back using a GM player, usually TTS-1 or a soundfont player. I now have many VSTI's to select from and my music now contains an assortment of these synths. I'm still struggling with getting things to sound correct once they've been uploaded to Soundcloud. I also am never very sure of what genre my music is, so when in doubt, I choose "electronic." Hope you enjoy. All suggestions are appreciated and will be given consideration. Thanks.

  8. A recent composition of mine. I finally decided to get some of my music up on Soundcloud. Completely composed, mixed, and mastered on Cakewalk.

  9. I figured out what was happening. I would open a project that had tracks set to a synth I no longer have installed. I would then add Cakewalk TTS-1 as a synth. The tracks would have a bank number that doesn't exist for that synth (like bank "1" instead of bank"15488 Preset Normal 0").  As soon as I change to a proper bank setting, the note names appear.

I started with pre-Windows 3.1 and don't remember the Event View/List having numbers instead of names.  It could be just a sign of my aging memory; or not.** If I find the one last Win 3.1 HDD that still worked as of maybe 5-6 years ago, I will see if still works and if so, what the Event List showed.

**For what its worth, the Event View in the Cakewalk Professional, Release 4.0 User's Guide shows note names in the Event View.  Maybe there was an option to show numbers instead of names?

I'm thinking maybe the file originated as a MIDI type 0 that I saved as a .cwp file. Not sure that would cause this but it's my only guess right now.

  11. OK. I was able to find a workaround. I saved the project as a type 1 midi file and when I opened that file it is back to showing the note names. The old file that showed only number was a .cwp file from around 10 years ago. So I've got it working but would like to know if there is a shortcut key or something that could change this as I suspect I may have more old files the will exhibit this behavior.

The event list is designed to show more or less raw MIDI data. MIDI notes are numbers. I do not know any way to change that display.

Here is what I want. Names not numbers under data.

  13. I opened an old project and when I look at the events list it has the note number under data instead of the diatonic name (C6, F#3, D4, etc.). I noticed it was the same way in the PRV but I was able to change it there but the event list still shows a number. I would like to see the diatonic name. How to fix?

Had an issue where I found out they limit installations for your account, which screwed me when I had a PC issue that required a couple/few reinstall.

    Ditched them after that.

Thank God this was before I spent much there. Nothing like losing access to what you pay for due to install limits.

Better to just use Splice. Safer is probably a better word.

All you have to do is email them and explain the situation and they will reset your account. I just upgraded my hard drive to a SSD and they had the account reset by the next morning. This was with the free account. I also have a paid account and it is likewise limited to 2 installs. Their highest level membership I believe give you 4 installs. I opened the free account because I like the program as a easily searchable librarian for my vast sample collection and I needed to use it on a couple of more computers than my paid account allowed.

  15. For what it's worth, one of my computers is running an FX-8350 and I have another that's the FX-8120 that I run CbB on both with no heat issues. I have upgraded the CPU coolers but nothing fancy. Temps seem to stay around mid 30's.

Within the last few days this exact thing has happened to me. Everything was working fine with the USB keyboard and then it stopped. It shows in devices and the midi indicator in the task bar shows activity yet there is no activity in CbB. I tried another keyboard and cable and it worked for a while and then the same thing happened. I've tried different USB ports and everything winkpain did above. The keyboards work fine on another computer running the latest versions of CbB and Windows, all drivers up to date, etc.

And just like that... it's working again. No changes. Weird.
