  1. I think that's just a standard rhodes stereo tremolo. By the way - thanks for including the track - I haven't heard it in original form in a few years.
  2. Have a look here : https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=KeyboardShortcuts.html Alt F3 - is the short cut for the Piano Roll view.
  3. I was listening to Grey Skies - and for what it's worth " screwing it up is where all the fun lives " Who needs anything actually finished -sheeesh.
  4. " And the Windows Audio troubleshooter and any error messages one encounters are of no use at all in fixing the improper settings. It is just one of those things you have to know, or hope you got set properly at the start. What seems to be the new deal since then - being phrased in my own words - is this: Windows has two levels of security (or privacy may be a better word) for a microphone device. The first is to allow or not allow it to exist on the machine it is attached. This is somewhat like disabling it in Device Manager. If it is enabled, it will appear in the hardware and it can get drivers installed, etc. But it can't be utilized without the next level. The second level is to allow processes to be able to use the device. The settings say for this level state that Windows is always able to use it without setting this, but that is simply untrue and misleading for troubleshooting. You can use it without level 2 if you set it up via 'listening' but that seems to be a security hole or flaw. " I'm still a die hard Win 7 fan boy specifically because of this crap. Thank you very much for a clean and succinct explanation. I can't stand Windows 8 that I have on one Laptop.. I bought my daughter a used Dell Inspiron POS that has Win 10 installed on it and I was able to use it for about 2 hrs before a windows update and a very stupid software switch to allow both battery charging and WIFI enabling basically turning it into a brick . Bought a new battery - then got another win 10 update that bricked it again. I threw it in the garbage. I'll never buy a DELL again.... and I'll try as hard as possible to never update to Win 10. Here's a hint: don't release garbage operating systems and hope the general public will do your quality checking - because basically they don't have any other options.
  5. Ok- after listening to your mix - I think you're definitely on the right track - nice arraignment which is 90 % of any song IMO. Just for a 1st impression opinion - back off about 4db on the bass and raise the snare and kick slightly. I'm just listening on half decent headphones for what that's worth. Nice song - I think the vocals are great.
  6. I would strongly recommend that you import a high quality "wave file " of a suitable and similar mix that you respect. Just simply AB ing against a good mix is really helpful - because everything is in context to your monitoring situation except of course for your final mastering stage : this at least gives you a valid reference. Keep in mind that final mastering really brings it all together - so be sure to bypass any mastering effects while referencing the import.
  7. Does it change in relation to the time / tempo? or - is it just a graphics glitch.
  8. I don't think Glossy EQ is inserted by default in Pro channel. I often have to insert it into new projects that didn't previously have it inserted. These are existing projects though - not new projects from " normal default" template.
  9. I would suggest using a dedicated analyzer such as Voxengo Span. Use the hold feature to look at amplitude for dynamics comparison ? Use the frequency analyzer for EQ. I don't think the waveform preview is accurate until the wave file is rendered and would be subjected to view magnification and there's no way to overlay them. With an analyzer you can likely set-it up to overlay more than one track - but again is subject to an aux send that needs to be matched to the original tracks output level. Just thinking out loud ( so to speak ).
  10. The samples sounded amazing on it's demo. Really much better then I would have imagined , it has subtle dynamics that make me reach for a real bass every time. For none bass players - I think this sets a new standard.
  11. I have about a half dozen hardware synths and a Yamaha O2R - about a half dozen processors / Effects. I rarely take the time to power them up - but when I do , nothing really comes close in software to stacking synths and applying a custom real time mix on them. Most of the keyboard work I do involves the basics Rhodes , Piano, Organ, and typically just a touch of synth. Those basics are well covered in VST's - typically better then standalone voices in hardware. But, the occasional super fat synth stack doesn't come even close to using hardware IMO. I went through a period a couple of years ago where I bought / sold and refurbished some pretty valuable older analogue synths - it seems like the prices doubled about 6 months after I sold my last collectable.
  12. Congrats on getting it for free, It takes up a bit of real estate - but hopefully you can make use of it in other contexts as well.
  13. I haven't noticed this - Do you use the "S" key for splits? Maybe something is re-assigning that key? Maybe try another method of making a split - such as Right click on the clip and choose Split from the context menu.
  14. The You Tube demo sounded very nice on this. I have a small number of Orange Tree libraries and they've all proven good buys. This one looks particularly good.
  15. You can open these files in the new Cakewalk by Bandlab if you choose to install it - or you can just use the X3 version you have installed. The Error you are seeing is that certain plug-ins are not available on the system. If those plug-ins are " Audio Processing plug-ins" ( such as Equalizers , compressors, reverbs etc......- then you are in luck and can easily replace them with what is included with a basic Cakewalk install. If they are " instrument ( VSTi )" types of plug -ins then you would need to find suitable instrument replacements. There are a number of instruments included in the Cakewalk install - and you may be able to easily replace some of the instruments as well. This really depends on what those instruments are of course. To proceed - just say OK at that Error prompt. You will see those listed plug-ins in their original position in the track view and console view and they will be in parenthesis and will simply act as if they are muted. Missing instruments might give you more of a challenge. but again they will just act as if they're muted. See what happens when you hit play - hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.
  16. Is there a choke setting in EZ drummer that isn't assigned properly to the hats ? Also - maybe the duration of that sample playback is apportioned to the note duration? I don't use EZ-Drummer so sorry I can't help specifically. But - I would look into how the instrument specifically is interpreting the midi notes for a starting point.
  17. If you bounce to clips - this should merge and note and controller data from different clips. There are a few CAL routines that remove duplicate data in the event you have exact note conditions at the same time stamp. You can also look at the " event viewer " to see if you have duplicate notes at the same time stamp. I think in the Piano roll -you would have to grab the note and pull it up or down to see for sure - hold shift while you do it to keep the time locked, it would be a good visual tool if over lapped or covered notes would light up a different way. Maybe a bright red splash color.
  18. Thanks for the great work - I can't wait to try it.
  19. Great Idea - I miss the software, hardware and computer forums. Hopefully there will be a future need for CbB plug-ins and content forum.
  20. Render Clip ? - Or Render Effects Region - would work for me. I usually keep tracks bounced to clips by habit. I don't think I would want another step in invoking " Bounce to Clips " though. It would be good if it was approached as a separate command. Edit: I discovered there is a Render Effects Region in the drop down. This will render Melodyne clips with out bouncing all clips with in the track. I was by habit just selecting the track and bouncing to clips to finish a Melodyne edit.
  21. I used them for a lot of equipment 20 years ago. Great operation back then. This was before they even got into guitars and such and upsized their buildings and operation. I was able to stop at the campus a year or so ago. It's something else to see the place on sight. It's like a weird mix of a college campus, recording studio , theater , a Mall and enormous warehousing.
  22. I would say that it might depend on what scope of editing / writing etc you needed to do offline . If it was straight up editing - I would bounce out stems of tracks that are already complete and just edit a few offline - then transfer those couple of tracks back. I think going for a full project transfer would be a headache - and maybe expensive to duplicate usable VSTi's. Having some basic midi instruments - maybe just to fill out monitoring might be a good idea. I don't know if the TSS synth covers enough ground - I've only used it for a few filler tracks. Drums would probably be the most important thing to be able to keep compatible between both DAWS.
  23. I upgraded from Sonar Pro to CbB, as said previous - leave Sonar installed and install CbB - you will need to venture into the Cakewalk core directory and possibly copy over instrument definitions and a few other things like sysex files if you have them and be sure to set the VST scan directories the same and let it scan. There's a small ton of minor program updates and stability fixes. It's pretty seamless. One test I did was to open and save a test file in CbB and then re-open the file in Sonar Pro and I found that going from a "Splat compatible file " back to Sonar Pro worked - it was backward compatible ( minus a few NEW prochannel modules). It's been smooth sailing for nearly a year. No question that's it's worth the update. The CbB deletes it's install file after the final install step - so try and capture it to save off the download. There are a few posts that describes this in the forum.
