I tend to end up using the basic vowel as pads most of the time, so they are a bit of a sledge hammer to crack a nut for me. I am always tempted when this type of library is on sale for some reason even though I don't really get the value out of the ones I have. I will be passing this time.

A quick update on the electric violin and cello. Articulations can be changed by velocity switching, key switches or cc. You need to set this up for your preference.  If you use the "master" NKI you should be able to switch between all the available articulations. I have not set it up and got it working as I want it yet but this should remove any reservations I had about these instruments.

Also its worth noting that the mod wheel is set for expression, like many other orchestral libraries.

I think they need to go through an amp or amp sim at least, just like an electric guitar, I think there is some amp/cab baled into the sound but Amplitube improves the sound a lot, in a way I have not achieved by putting a regular violin library through an amp sim.

Well, i ignored the advice 😁 and bought the violin and cello. I have only had a brief run through the NKIs and I think I will find them useful. I have been looking for an electric violin library for some time for a project where I want something a little different from my standard violin libraries.

I need to dig deeper though and work out the best way of switching articulations (at first glance there do not appear to be key-switches). It may need multiple instances to get the full performance???

I had a quick look at the included effects, they provide a reasonable variety of sound shaping such a screamer, distortion, chorus, rotor, phaser, delay etc. but I think I will probably end up running through Amplitube most of the time.

Finally sorted my password reset problems, with help from Jesse and Tyler on the 8Dio support chat.  I was very impressed by the responsive nature of the support!

I looked at one of there deals before. I may be wrong but I am pretty sure you have to subscribe £20 a month and you just cant go an buy one of the deals

I am seriously considering the electric violin and cello, the demo videos sound excellent. The clarinet is also tempting at $28. I have some password reset issues at the moment which will give me some more thinking time.

The flash sale is certainly the thing to watch as the discounts there are much better than the coupon codes. it says "Check back for new promotions, releases, and a new set of weekly flash sales all month long." so it may be worth waiting to see what comes along before using the coupon.

some of the flash sale items have much bigger discounts than 40%. So there are very good deals even if the coupons don't work.

Also personal 50% discounts have been sent to "VIP" customers so if you are an existing customer check your emails.

I have some of the guitars, they sound very good. The chord detection works very well and they are straightforward to use. The range of articulations is limited compared the OTS Evolution series.

If previous intro offers are anything to go by I suspect $59, I also recall the intro pricing going on for some time.

Looks like you have to be careful and select the most expensive of your target product as your initial purchase.

There are some "nice to haves" but no essentials for me. The Leslie collections look interesting, but I have several other Leslie emulations already, same applies to the tape machines.  I will sit on this for a while.

Of course the Impact Soundworks on is a pedal steel, quite a more complex instrument. I have had the Wavelore pedal steel Kontakt library for years (I don't think its available anymore?) but could never quite get my head around the complexity of it all.

Lap steels are a lot simpler, I even have one I made myself from some old planks.

I am considering a Samsung Galaxy A50 which has 128GB.  If I go this route I will try the standard player as suggested by arlen2133 first and move on to something else in the event I don't like it for some reason.

I have the OTS slides and they are very nice too. I have just bought this new one from Indiginus and I like it more. Its very immediate and easy to use in comparison to the OTS ones. 

The OTS ones have more features and they are probably complimentary.

And then there was "Nothing's Gonna Stop us Now" to top it off.

Thanks, I use VLC as a media player on one of my computers so I will add that to the short list.

What are people using Android devices using to play music?

I am probably going to have to replace my phone soon and don't really want to pay a premium for an iPhone if I can get similar functionality to iTunes which has served me well enough to date. I want to load music, playlists etc. onto my phone over a USB cable, easily find albums and tracks  and play them on the phone with no internet connection.

As far as I can see using Google Music Manager has a 50,000 limit, which will not be an issue, but it appears it loads from the PC to the cloud and then you download to the phone, which I imagine will take hours.  Also it seems to insist on taking card numbers and seems quite insistent in trying to persuade you to  sign up for their streaming services. I assume Google has reasonable facilities for creating playlists, organizing tracks and understands the concept of an album.

Apple Music for Android also seems to be intent on you streaming as far as I can see. I may be wrong but from what I have read USB connection to iTunes is only available on iPhones. Does this mean transfer via the Cloud?

There seem to be several music player apps, Poweramp https://powerampapp.com/ looks reasonable and has the big advantage of being able to play many formats including FLAC.  I am not clear how the transfer is managed and I assume synchronization with the library on the PC is manual??

Any comments welcome.

If you have one of the paid options there are some options to organize things but it not perfect.
