  1. In 1977, I didn't have any pedals at all and just a cheap stack, I can't even remember the name brand.
I also had an old amplifier I pulled out of its case a few years before.  I wanted distortion. I connected a TR jack to the amp's output, plugged my guitar into that and plugged that into the stack. Instant distortion?
I didn't even have to call the fire department.

  2. The $90 used/refurbished computer arrived a day early. I've spent the last few hours trying to set it up like I want and downloaded CbB before they stopped any more downloads.
It's a lot smaller than my previous machines and wants to lay down instead of stand up. It came with el cheapo mouse and keyboard. The mouse was broken, but it's so rickety I probably wouldn't have used it anyway. The keyboard is intact so I'll use that. There was no mention of them being included, so it's not a big deal.
It seems to work pretty well. Much faster that my last box.
    Waiting for the "gotcha".

I first tried MixPad and had no issues with running the program, hearing what was being recorded during recording, playing back the recording as a project or saved audio file in typical formats.  I decided to give Cakewalk a trial, and have yet to get it to play any sounds while recording or on play, and a saved Cakewalk recording file in typical format plays fine only by using another media player.  I've tried changing the driver modes through Edit > Preferences > Audio > Playback and Recording > Driver Mode, and fooled around with the device settings by accessing Edit > Preferences > Audio > Devices and I'm getting nowhere.   Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum.
What audio interface or sound card are you using?
Can you post some screen shots of your Preferences>Audio>Devices and Audio>Driver Settings and Audio>Playback and Recording?

Excuse me. I can’t find the Demo Projects list at the start screen. Where is it? 😂

As I wrote almost 4 years ago, the demoes I had then may have come from an installation of an earlier Cakewalk product and not Cakewalk by Bandlab. Sorry.
    And welcome to the forum.

Only one year away from being able to go into bars legally too!  Bummer Greg!

It has no birth certificate, so it could be >21.
It certainly has been acting drunk lately.

Recently, I got Cakewalk, and Melodyne 5 was packaged with it too, and it's the 30-day trial one, I haven't made a Melodyne account, and I want to cancel because I'm not going to sing, and also, I am younger, and I don't want to pay after, so I just want to cancel it. Is there even a way to cancel Melodyne 5 trial without having an account, or do you HAVE to make an account in order to cancel Melodyne 5 Trial verison.

Hope it makes sense for people, I am just wondering.

Just don't use it. Nothing catastrophic will happen. No one is going to take your money. When the "Melodyne update is available" message appears, just close it.
That's my strategy, although my voice could probably benefit from some correction. And it will work on sounds other than voice.

    Welcome to the forum.

  7. My ~20-year-old 32-bit 3GB RAM Windows XP music computer that my brother the programmer gave me a few years ago died. Probably a good thing. All my songs are backed up, as of about 2 months ago. I haven't really worked on anything in a while.
Not having the means to purchase some new hyper machine to record to, I bought a used/refurbished computer. The copy is misleading, the specs read one thing in one place and something else in another, the images they show all appear to be of the same machine, regardless of make and model, but it has 16 GB, 64-bit and is Win 10 Pro, if you want to believe the most favorable specs. Best of all, it's only $90!
This will become my do-everything computer, if it even boots up, 🤞.
Should arrive Mar. 16. Wish me luck!

... make CbB an As-Is, one-time paid option with no support for those who don't want or like the new Sonar?

Imagine the screams of protest from the 'you said it would always be free!' crowd.

  9. I was visiting with some family yesterday and my cousin reminded me of a quip from a family reunion over a decade ago.
He's a dentist/oral surgeon and prefers to be called doctor rather than mister.
My brother introduced him as "Mr. Parks". He got to the podium and said, "no one's called me mister in over 10 years".
My brother replied, "I didn't know you had surgery".

Thanks, I actually didn't even see that reply. But I don't really get it. I have an actual piano/keyboard that I'm hooking up to the computer with a MIDI USB cable, why do I need to insert a synth? I thought a synth was only for if you don't have an instrument and that's why you needed a MIDI controller

If you wanted to make what you recorded sound like a spaceship or any other sound which it doesn't make on its own.
If the output of the MIDI rack you recorded is set to the piano, that's what you will hear.
If you want to hear anything other than the piano, you would insert a soft synth and change the MIDI track's output to that synth.
If you want to hear your actual piano through the DAW and not the through the piano's speakers, you will have to rig some way to connect the headphone output to an audio input of your computer or an external audio interface and record that audio.

That looks like a pretty nice piano.
