  1. I was about to buy both SPL Iron and Metric A/B when everything was $29.99, but then I thought: "Well, I don't really need them right this second, and they'll probably be on sale at some point where I might have a $25 voucher I can use, too."

I'm happy that things went as planned for once.

Still bummed that I forgot to use that February voucher during the sale, though.

  2. Have I understood correctly that this would likely to be a single iLok license and it would cost $25 to transfer it to my (yet to be created) iLok account?

there are occasional deals on SD3 and occasional deals on SDX  packs - normally the older stuff.   This is the standard price so you'd be safe waiting a while if you need to.

Thank you for the info, Simon. I can be very patient when I need to and I don't have an immediate need for SD3 so I'll just play the waiting game, then.

  4. Are there ever any decent deals for SD3? I need some good metal drum kits but 380 euros is... painful, and in addition to that I will probably need to buy one or two expansions to get the sounds I want. 😓

Also, is this an intro price or the final price for Hansa?

Codes have either an "A" or a "B"  i.e. FEB-29-B-xxxxxxx or FEB-29-A-xxxxxxx   the A codes are reusable.  The B's are not and if you have used one B code, you can't use another.

Well what's the point of having two codes at all, then? I guess it wasn't like that from the start? No wonder no one was interested in my codes... 🤦‍♂️

  6. I kinda forgot that the monthly voucher was valid only until the end of the month and missed my chance to get something for a really good price. Now I'll probably use only one of the vouchers for this sale, so if someone wants the other one, PM me.

(I'm going to bed right now so I won't get back to you until later.)

Not anymore, I snatched it. Thanks for the tip, Larry. 👍

Actually, I misspoke. I talked to the person on KVR who sold me the Amadeus and they said they still have two more licenses. So if you're still interested you might get one, if you hurry.

I apologize for assuming they had only one license and for spreading misinformation. 😔 Sorry everyone. I'll do better next time.

  8. Thanks for the info, Reid.

I listened to the demos and Amadeus certainly doesn't sound like it's cobbled together! I really like how the ensembles sound.

Here is link to the comparison of articulations between different versions of The Orchestra, in case someone's interested: Articulation Comparison. It looks like Amadeus falls somewhere between The Orchestra and The Orchestra Complete, articulation-wise.

They are similar and both sound great. The Sonuscore product is more sophisticated. It has more articulations, lots of presets plus some surprisingly useful arpeggiators. I'd suggest going with that one if you're really into orchestration. But if all you want are simple backing tracks for pop and rock tunes, ASO gets you there very quickly.

If you're not a smartie and you just want to play a C chord, select a preset, and hear amazing orchestral music, then The Orchestra is for you.  Plus... you can still compose for the orchestra in the conventional way.

    [snip]

But I think that Amadeus has a bit more to offer for traditional orchestral composition. More instruments and articulations.

Uh... I'm getting some mixed messages here. So which is which?

    Info extracted from https://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_PatchWork/

    • It is possible to chain effects in series or create up to 8 parallel chains that can be activated independently. This lets you create your favorite effects or instruments configurations within the plug-in, without the need for multiple busses. These configurations can be saved as presets and recalled instantly, or shared with multiple DAWs, using any plug-in format (full list below). Use the built-in audio effects to add color to your own plug-in chains.
    • For each plug-in slot, latency compensation, presets management, undo/redo integration, audio i/o selection and individual plug-in bypass are included for optimal operation. The plug-in also stores the position of the window for each plug-in so that the layout is restored with your session or saved with presets.
    • Also, sub plug-ins can be automated or controlled with external control surfaces using Blue Cat's PatchWork parameters mapping capabilities.
    • Input and output level meters are also available to monitor the signal that is dispatched to inserted plug-ins, including side chain and aux channels.

Yeah, I've read the description. But what you're saying is that these things are something that can't be done with the FX chains offered by DAWs? If that is the case then it certainly sounds a lot more flexible.

    Thanks for pointing this out.

Waves has their Studio Rack which is similar, but only allows Waves plugins.   ...actually, it looks like they're are depricating this. Apparently it doesn't work for v11 plugins.

It looks like there are a few alternatives to Patchwork, but most people seem to think Patchwork is superior to them.

Or, with Patchwork, I can do it that way perhaps with more flexibility and with an enhanced method for saving presets.

Can you elaborate on those points, if you don't mind? I'm sorry to say I'm just starting with recording and mixing, so I don't have a frame of reference for what makes a good/bad FX chaining tool.

I can definitely see the value of Patchwork for someone who uses multiple DAWs or needs to replicate plugin chains between different setups. However, I currently only use Reaper, so committing myself to Reaper's FX chains for the time being would probably not be a problem. But I feel like I don't have enough knowledge to make an educated decision and I fear demoing Patchwork with my current skills would not reveal its benefits. Should probably still test it, though.

  12. Is the Axe Pack worth the extra ~$100 when compared with Axiom? You get Late Replies as a standalone plugin, which is nice I guess, but I can't quite figure out if Patchwork is something I might actually need.
