Well played and really good arrangement! Love the mix (and I hear some "Peg" influences as well). Very professional work!

    Thank you!!

One of my fave Beatles tracks and you did it proud Steve - I agree with you that you just can't  mess with their stuff.

Thanks Andy - I love that whole Abbey Road album!

Beautifully balanced mix, clean, wide and up-front without any harshness. And not drenched in FX, thank you. Great performances across the board. Kudos for taking on such a challenging tune to cover. I wouldn't have had the patience!

Thank you - it took forever to get that bass down, and I had to do the lead guitar in parts!  Love your tag line.

The production of this sounds quite similar to the original - so good job there.

The vocal put a different spin on this song - reminded me a bit of Dr. John.

Thanks - I didn't think of that with the vocal, but that's a great compliment - I'll let Darren know about it!

God those up front keyboards sound good! And the percolating bass!!! The vocals obviously have a different tambre but they work because of that. They are good. Hard for one guy to be Fagan, and Michael McDonald!

So glad I listened. When the lead guitar comes in, it sits purrrrfectly in that excellent mix.

Or, the song itself is just so well written, any deaf monkey could throw crap on the wall and it would still sound good.

No, your mix is really really good and totally worthy. Very well done!!!

Want a nit? The part at 1:19, and later in the song, that McDonald bgv note is a little loud for how abruptly it ends.

    cheers,

    -Tom

Hey thank you Tom, I appreciate the feedback.  Darren asked me to turn down the backups, we did it a couple of dB down for about 3 iterations.  We probably should have kept going lol.

Excellent cover @steve@baselines.com ! Well done.

That's a hard song to do with all of the vocal parts and you also did an excellent job on the guitar solo. (thinks... I must give that solo a try 🤔)

Thanks!  I had to cheat a little on the lead.  It was a bunch of takes...only way I could ever do that.

Steve , Incredible job on this cover.  Darren nailed the falsetto parts , sounded like the original vocals.  Great job on the guitar work also. I guess this is what Bandlab was made for , I think you guys took it to a different level...    mark

Thanks a lot Mark - I'll make sure that Darren knows about your post here.  Are you on bandlab?

Wow.. great musicianship on this one.

I agree with Dan about the rhythm  section and the kick being buried which would really help to drive the groove.
The mix is really well spread out.
If you could,    I reckon a Mastering engineer could really make this song shine.

Well done and a great achievement.

Thank you Gary - appreciate the feedback, and I am going to try and work on that kick a little more.

Awesome cover! I can imagine how much work went into this. It always amazes me when I break down a song I like and see just how good the musicians are.

My only critique is that the kick is somewhat buried and could use a bump to get that beat locked in.

    Dan

Thank you! You are right, it was a ton of work.  I started out learning that bass part and just about threw the towel in at that point.  I'll take a listen and maybe update that kick.  I appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback!

Here's the results of a very rewarding project.  This is Peg from Steely Dan's 1977 Aja album.  From Bandlab, @darrengarrett on vocals.  @michelefortunato on 'bones, @jobi7 on alto and baritone sax.  I play the other instruments and did the production.  https://baselines.com/?p=5097

Great job on this Steve.  I'd let the end ring out a few more seconds is all.

I found this free Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer pedal sim vst from Distorque called Vitamin C that's pretty cool actually. Some old wonky compressor pedal that some guys used back when. Check it out here http://distorqueaudio.com/plugins/vitamin-c.html

I just found this after watching a video on youtube.  I am working on a cover of Peg, and this is what was used on the original.  I'm hoping it will work out.  Here's the great video on that guitar lead.

Good vocal work. I like the synth sound too. The mix sounds flawless to me. I know I've heard the song before, but I don't remember if the original ends that abruptly. Nice job. I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.

Thanks very much for listening and commenting.  Let me know if you are on Bandlab and I will follow.

  6. Why is it so darn hard to copy a tempo map from one project to another?  Is it me?  I see all this Alt-A stuff and copy to clip and copy to project, but I can see the tempo map and the listing of all times and changes.  I just want to copy that from one and paste it into the other.  Is that too much to ask?

I'm done venting.  Maybe I'll try to figure out how to put a feature request in unless there is a way to do this that someone can tell me about.  Thanks in advance!

Nice cover, I like that you kept it much the same as they did it, mix works well here on the Adam's, followed on Bandlab.

Thanks a lot!  I like trying to keep Beatles songs as close to the original as possible for me.

What an excellent production.  Great vocals, great instrumentation, great arrangement, great mix.  It "feels" right.

Hi Jim - that is high praise.  'Feeling right' is the thing that matters.  Thank you!  If you are on Bandlab, let me know and I will follow.

Hi Steve.  You know, I think that I had to sign up with Bandlab when the transition was made to the new Cakewalk by Bandlab and new forum site.  However, I am not sure if I have posted anything on it or what the link is.  Right now SoundClick.com is the only site on which I have been posting.  I will check into it Bandlab and provide you with a link if I can figure it out.  Thanks!

It's a great place, lots of nice people from around the world.  I collaborate with a bunch of great, unpretentious, talented musicians who give feedback and support.  If you get in, drop me a comment and I will get you involved!!  @steve2k2

Excellent cover! Instrumentation and mix are professionally done, and the vocal harmonies are excellent.

Hey thanks Freddy - if you're on Bandlab, send me your link and I will follow.
