BTW is anything this thing can provide what cannot be done in DAW?

As the name implies it's a looper or can be used as one. AFAIK CbB doesn't do sound on sound audio recording and doesn't have a looper. I used an echoplex digital pro for years, but it is mono and when I wanted to get another unit for stereo they had been discontinued. I got it to use a single track and overdub. I use it for sketching out ideas or practicing. One thing that's nice about the EDP is that when you overdub it reduces the level of the looped audio - that's a nice feature, but doesn't seem available on MSuperLooper - it provides a limiter instead, unless I've over looked it.

  2. That depends on your audio I/F. Many have multiple outputs including headphones. If your HW doesn't have controls you should be able to select devices like you do with WASAPI.

  3. It could be your settings in Cakewalk. If you're using the on board sound chip then go to  Edit -> Preferences. Under Audio select Playback and Recording, for Driver Mode try WASAPI Exclusive. Under Audio select Devices and you should see options under the Output Drivers section. If headphones is selected there and they are not working it will be the laptop setup. You'll need to go to Sound in the Control Panel.

  4. For midi in/out usb is probably the quickest. For audio, if you have any concern for latency, you probably want ASIO drivers which usually means an audio I/F.

Been playing with this since 10 min : impressed , i don't know if it's accurate but it sounds good faster that my beloved outer space !!

Oh no. I like the Outer Space and have the Boss RE-20 (Space Echo) on my pedal board. I may have to check it out.

  6. Licensed plugins need to be licensed. It depends on the plugin. Some allow use on multiple computers as long as only one computer is used at a time. Some only have a single license. Some have license managers - waves, ni, ikm, xln or use a 3rd party license manager like iLok. You have to check with each developer. You can start by looking at your programs in the start menu. Click start and scroll thru the programs and expand any plugins - if you have ni or ikm and expand them you'll see that ni has Native Access and ikm has an Authorization Manager. It should also be clear when you install the plugins on your new machine. Have fun.

  7. These days I use a drum vst, but many years ago I used samplers. Many drum vsts let you load your own samples. Many samplers are designed to be used with drum samples, but even if not, you should be able to load a sample per key. If you do that you probably want to follow a standard midi drum map.

I forgot to mention there is also an 'external insert' in the FX Chain but I am not sure what this is for and when i clock on it nothing happens - can anyone advise?

What it says 🙂 If you want to use an external fx unit. You should should be able to add it to the bin.

Eventually I upgraded for $29 asking price. I did so because I wanted a better way of managing presets. Specially, the new version allows you to organise presets into banks, so I have a bank for each of my guitars. This is a good feature for me, but it won’t be worth $29 for others.

Is the upgrade working with CbB? I saw some posts that there were problems.

Why do I need the PRO version? Thanks.

It's easier to control updates. I have pro on my DAW and it notifies me when updates are available. On my laptop I say I have a metered connection so it won't download on it's own, but I have to remember to update.

  11. As a guitarist I treat amp sims differently in terms of gain staging if I'm recording with the amp sim as opposed to recording clean without an amp sim. I gain stage after the amp sim. I know that TH-2 & TH-3 have an input meter and you want to adjust the level of the input signal to that. I haven't checked to see what that level is in dBs. Amp sims tend to behave like the HW and HW responds to the level of the signal. Personally I think the level of the input signal should be what sounds good with a particular amp sim. Given that the amp settings will also be based on what sound you want. The amps sims I have have an output level and that is where I adjust the level for gain staging. In regards to fx within an amp sim guitarists gain stage in their fx chains for tone. Some guitarists use a compressor as a boost to drive the front end of the amp. As a guitarist the more an fx behaves like the real HW the better the sim. I wouldn't expect a signal to be neutral going thru an fx chain.

These days I tend to use amp sims to practice and the projects I have saved to practice are set at output levels for practicing not recording. I suspect a lot of presets may be designed to sound good as you audition them. My two cents.

With New skool in guitar recording today. Most "oldskool" guys I've seen, does it completely dry into the project. Sometimes with just a little compression. Due to many option available with plugins these days. Here we can alter it how ever we want.

The question with this is. Do you use that chorus effec plugin on guitars still or Do you create your own chorus effect just by using one take on the left channel - and record a second, third and fourth take over it and end up with 16tracks on the left. Or -  do you go for a chorus plugin and do four takes.

Guess I'm still confused. Are you saying using plugins is new skool?

  13. As a guitarist I'm not sure about old skool and new skool. It seems like a lot of guitar fx started in studios. Flanging was done by slowing down a tape reel after the signal was recorded. I thought Kramer put Jimi's guitar thru a Leslie after it was recorded. Duane Eddy's echo chamber was a water tank, and so on. I think some engineers can be pretty creative.

One thing for sure...people are Chicken SH*T, considering that this virus has a 99.9% Survival rate...
MORE THAN TWICE that of the "common influenza", which kills far more people, but we never really
hear about it, because it's "common", not NEW, and the Media can't turn THAT into a "Fear Machine" to
force the masses into compliance...like sheep to the slaughter

Year to date, according to the CDC, as of 5/9/2020 there have been 60, 299 deaths due to covid 19 and 6,158 deaths due to influenza in the US. That's 9 times more.

Hi chap`s Ive just recently finished another song using all the virtual amps , but found that to get a good tone I had to use a lot of treble,  I´m thinking of putting the guitar firstly into a Pre-amp and rom the pre-amp into the audio interface ?  any coments or what do you advise ? cheers PB

I think it depends on your audio IF.  If you need to add high end that may indicate that you don't have 1 meg ohm input impedance. What does the IF say about input impedance? I normally use a guitar pre-amp into a mixer and the mixer goes into the audio IF, but I don't have a high end IF. I've been using a VG-99 for guitar modelling and I'm switching over to an SY-1000. If I'm not using guitar modelling I use an ADA MP1 that's programmed clean and neutral. The SY-1000 sounds pretty good, once I have it setup I may use that to record guitar.

I wanted to hear the selected effect WHILE playing and recording. It is not the problem to hear nothing, get me right. It is the "problem" that I don't hear the chosen effect while playing. So, the "Input Echo" is the solution for that?

You can apply fx in real-time. You can be recording or just listening. I tend to practice guitar thru amp sims any more rather than amps. There can be any number of problems. Make sure you are not monitoring thru your audio IF - some audio IFs allow you monitor. Input echo must be enabled, the fx must be enabled, make sure the fx are not by passed.
