Lots of accusations in that thread. I wouldn't have any idea whether they were true or not. Some people claim to have proof of such and such; why not post them (or partially redacted screenshots) in addition to making assertions?

This thread does not really belong in Deals forum and better suited for coffee house or Vi Control drama zone.  Mod please move this thread.

Simmons gets a lot of hate, but I have come to appreciate the man on some level (although he can be a complete ***** too).

Who else would close their solo album with such a heartfelt rendition of "When You Wish Upon a Star" when they're supposed to be "evil incarnate", who but a most defiantly self-affirming and ferociously individualist misfit?

Who would take the most uncool stance of openly condemning drugs and alcohol and make no fuss about their own capitalistic ambitions?

Even in the world of (manufactured) outsiders and rebels, Simmons is an outcast. He gives no F about what a rock star should say or do. As far as I'm concerned, that's   the spirit.

He was a theology major at one time. Later on people found out he was Jewish.

He also use to play a drug lord in Miami Vice.

BTW do they still do show?  Plenty of old guys still do that.

You say portato, I say portatoe. For some reason, I saw the word portato on my Google search and felt compelled to make that joke.

    I'll show myself out...

I never heard of portato either.   I had a teacher who use to play in the CSO and never used that.   I also had a teacher years before who was a professional jazz guy and never used that word.

Every time I hear that word portato I keep thinking of that same thing.

I didn't know this, but I googled it!

"staccatissimo A style of playing notes in a detached, separated, distinct manner that shortens the notated duration of the note in a more exaggerated way than normal staccato. Staccatissimo is indicated by solid wedge directly above or below the notehead."

A sample developer had to make up that term to market a library.   Or the Harvard Dictionary of Music had to create it to sell updated versions.  Oh and google makes it so.

I bet if I took one of those libraries and made something you would never know the difference.

  5. Being a wind player I wonder what's the difference between staccato and staccatissimo?  I've never heard of that articulation in my private studies.  Maybe the teachers were holding that one away unless I went into doctorate studies.

  6. I have an AXE I/O and have yet to plug in a guitar or bass.

Never open all of my IK, Arturia or Melda plugins.

I spend more time on my outdated Intel 4790, 3.6 ghz system then my i9 system @ 4.9ghz.   Maybe it's because It's in the room hooked up to a 32 inch TV 720p  instead of the 42 inch at 1080.  I sit closer to the 32 inch and maybe that's why.    I have used my better system to play Hitman 3.

I have enough orchestra libraries and I want to produce Trance.

The last time I created a project from start to finish was 2009.  Of course all projects up till then I've lost all project files.

I'm sure I could come up with some more Hall of Shame.

  7.  Licensing is the top choice for me.   I don't buy Waves anymore.  Even dongled software allows at least two machines.  Many developers have had subs for quite some time it's that they don't constantly throw it in your face like Reason Studios.

Sometimes users fail to realize what is packaged in their DAW is just as good as 3rd party.

Developers get tired of the (d)evolving OS.   Image-Line decided to stop selling plugins.  Updating those is way down the list because they want to spend more time on improving their DAW and new proprietary items.   Reason Studios is the exact opposite where they crank out more instruments.

Melda took some backlash because they recommended DAW users to go PC to avoid update hassles.

It's been easy to rethink since the economy is terrible.   Some at VI Control just can't seem to figure out the $20 I wasted on the Claire Flute because the low register is an oboe.   In some stores that's 2 dozen eggs.   Price and quality I guess have to be opposites.   I still think the reason why Waves started the $29 market is to compete with small developers making quality plugins for less.   See Boz, Vahalla, Tokyo Dawn.

Here's a thought. Go and make an honest, less than gold star review of an 8Dio and SoundPaint library and see if it goes up. Report the results back here.

There's plenty of software especially games where reviews are not honest.  No bad product exists at pluginboutique.   Hornet shows all reviews.

DAW drama.......I don't know what to say about that anymore other than that's Vi Control.   Then again the posts about Dirk should have their own drama zone.

I also struggle to understand why people get mad at software companies instead of apple when they intentionally flex their power by forcing developers to jump every few months to make plugins compatible.

Of course for Windows 11 one needs the TPM to use that fine OS.   All it will take is for developers to drop W10  support and it will be a great cure for GAS.

What's not to like about a $12.50 plugin?  I've got the SSL 4000 E, AMEK 9099, Crispytuner & Limiter True Peak in my basket at the moment.

One click away from adding 4 fine products to my growing collection of unused plugins!

Post of the week.   The $12.50 plugin is often referred to as a no brainer which is now for me as brain dead or head up my *****.

A non event for me .... to put it softly ....

And soundwide ? since it has been created i still don't see anything coming from this that is noticeable , in fact didn't seen anything coming from this at all ...

I was exited for izotope to be in with NI , i can see those IA treatment doing wonder in machine (cleaning samples , rebalancing those ect ..)

I have this feeling that it's brands that had their time and momentum and are fighting the fall with regrouping , i don't know i m surely to pessimistic

It makes users paranoid.  The first sign of paranoia is "subscription model".    Fl Studio users got wind that the new Image Line CEO came from NI and  the no more free updates panic started.  One of the founders brought a sense of reality.

I don't think these positions have an effect on software.

I thought his stepping down was actually announced around the time of Soundwide so, not much of a surprise.

I met Dirk in person once at a an IMSTA FESTA in New York City, where he was demoing the bx SSL consoles, and TMT technology. He really radiated shining passion and love for music production. I think he will do great at the Board of Directors, still providing advice and direction, but with more time for himself for enjoying the results of years of hard work.

    This was old news.

The more I see comments here about instruments, the more I realize Vi-Control is a much better forum for deal discussion.

Check the discussion of this sale on Vi-Control. Comparison videos, discussion of the Majestica Pro upgrade, specific discussion about the good / bad patches of this specific library (i.e. strong low strings, weak high winds, lack of reverb control, etc.), quality control of specific patches, alternative suggestions (from 8Dio or other manufacturers),

Here it just seems like people who have little to no experience with products (or perhaps little experience with composing) sounding off about a sales / promotion grievance or trying to downplay what is clearly a very successful company in virtual instruments.  Which helps absolutely NOBODY who might want / need this library...

Here's what informative posts look like:

It seems this forum is just endless IK Multimedia and Plugin Alliance spam, missing half the actual sales of instruments throughout the year, and most of the conversations devolve into complaints about marketing / promotional practices and little substance about actual products. Maybe time to unbookmark.

Disagree.  Plenty of us also are members there.  We bring information from there to here. We do have experience with these products.

They are just as impressed with shiny and new.

Only way to get all future plugins at no additional future cost is the bundle though.  That is the theoretical advantage of going all in.

Way outside of my price range but those who got in on it many years ago saw a pretty amazing value out of it.  Will be curious to see what is in the years to come.  I'm betting the mixing revolution concept he is working on isn't going to be a cheap $10 plugin.

Installing is easy one you have them all.   When you buy from them they credit 50% from their list price. I chipped away on their weekly 50% off.

Yesterday I purchased 8Dio's Claire Flute.  Today got a 10$ coupon for the Soundpaint 2004 Flute Platinus.  Are they the same?  What would be different or additional about the Soundpaint version?

    Very confused about this.

    C2

Soundpaint has a 2 machine limit where a Kontakt library can be installed on every system you have with no registration gimmicks.
