  1. It just shows you how out of touch the media is in general.  FL Studio and Live are popular because you can create something right away.  Beyond the surface these get very complex.

We live in a generation wanting instant results.  How is this any different than learning an instrument.  You could spend all day on a guitar playing an e minor chord or a Bb scale on a trombone but eventually one will have to desire to go deeper.

The average person likes to do things on a phone and there are beatmaking apps and that's as far as they want to go.

I think they've done more than enough in music software to make something simple.  Some companies figured out that that home studio or hobbyist is a bigger market than the professionals.

This. It is also a meme or an axiom that Valve can't do a 3 version of anything. There is Portal 1 and 2, Team Fortress 1 and 2, Dota 1 and 2, Left for Dead 1 and 2, even HL2 episodes 1 and 2. You will not find a 3 version in any of Valves line ups.

Not people in my circles. In fact, most people have gone out of their way to say Alyx is not HL3. Probably to perptuate the idea that Valve can't do a 3 of anything, and to keep the "HL3 confirmed" meme going. Why would you want to take away that fun?

That just shows you I've been out of touch with Valve in general.  Their offerings like L4D and Portal never drew me in despite having them.  HL2 will have a long existence with mods until it's broken in Windows.

Command and Conquer series was great but CnC3 you could tell it was going down hill.

There is a STALKER 2 being developed but it's not the same developer and so far they sys requirements are a testament how clueless game developers have become.

Also seeing $99. Didn’t it used to be $49 or 69?

I like the idea of Waveform but never use it as Cubase is my main DAW and I don’t have time to use that!

$49 would be no brainer, but now I will wait until I actually want to use it

It seems like a nice upgrade except for price.  I thought they were going in a direction of free DAW and make revenue from they synths.  I never really liked it anyway. Bandlab and FL Studio seem more impressive every day.    Like all developers they overprice their extreme package. I can't imagine someone paying  a grand for a DAW loaded with software unless you are a professional.

You are talking about Half Life Alyx. Half Life Alyx events take place between HL1 and HL2. So not HL3.

People like to nickname it HL3.   Meanwhile Valve is doing other things.  For me the Steam platform is getting less favor when buying games.  Ubisoft and EA have far better support.  I seem to have bought more games from Epic.

My only advice to anyone thinking of picking these up is make sure you can run them on your DAW.

Spitfire Original and SA libraries need a lot of RAM and decent CPU.

I was running Spitfire libraries on an i5 with 8GB RAM until recently, and I vowed not to buy another until I updated my system to a bare minimum of  i7 with 16GB. They would often have drop outs, notes not detected, or irregular detection. Now I'm on a more powerful system they work well.

Also, read up carefully on the vst3 issue with CbB. These older libraries have a known issue with CbB not running the vst3. There is a work around suggested by Spitfire which involves deleting the vst3 versions and only running the vst2. Keep in mind that many of these libraries are older and not likely to be updated going forward, so be aware of this issue before buying if you are a CbB user (and if you're not, what the hell are you doing on this board? ?).

It seems vst3 for virtual instruments have issues.  Sylenth will never be a vst3.

Yes, thanks Paul. This is very enlightening. I may give Exodus a pass; I have so many games in my play queue as it is. Too bad because the first two were really great.

It seems there is a pattern with game developers that after a sequel the 3rd time is not the charm.  The Metro series weakness has always been optimization. There's a reason why games like CoD and GTA are big sellers is they don't require boutique hardware.  Exodus and Just Cause 4 are the worst I've played.

Many of those games on that list were free at one time or another.

$35 to get both Iron and Tantra 2 isn't exactly the worst deal out there.

You got me thinking on that one. Unfortunately I make the mistake of not checking my PA account and I already have Iron. Twice I've bought a 2nd license from PA on accident.

I converted all of my existing VSL licensed to iLok and have started downloading the libraries.
It was a very smooth process, and the new Vienna Download Manager is really nice.
You just have to remove your previous e-Licensor libraries and re-download them again through the new manager.

i seem to have to wait for mine.  The iLok registration codes are there but if you copy and paste them they don't work and not fill all of the spaces. Don't ditch that elicneser yet.

Positively acephalic. The first time this deal came up I bought 2 licenses each without hesitation, based on my experience with Phoenix and R2, their predecessors.

The only thing I've tried that can touch these is MTurboReverble, which is more expensive.

Nimbus for natural reverb and R4 for classic hardware algos, and it's all you need.

If you don't care for the fact that you only get a single license, well, think of it as $20 per and it's still amazing.

I have that and might as well avoid another product the uses iLok.

  10. I agree with this.  It's fine somewhat if you play it on easy level.  Weapons don't work often with mutants.  No real stealth.  I played it twice and won't ever bother to play it again.   The challenge is gamer vs. piss poor game development.   It's not open world either.  Mutants are a major bullet sponge which also ruins any exploration.  This one is a major dud compared to the first two.  Quick save is faulty unless you are into mindless redundancy.

I was technically never off of the Steinberg train.  I left Cubase for X1 as my main DAW, but I didn't
    leave (that is until now)

Cubase is still the most annoying DAW to open.  I click FL Studio, Reaper, Live, and you are ready to work.
