Thanks. I changed the workspace to advanced and now I have the channel and patch controls. Honestly I find the whole interface a little overwhelming now. I have to do research to find out how to do some very basic things that used to be much easier before.

The Cakewalk Music Creator 7 interface used to have on every track a drop down box to choose midi channel and a box to select the patch. They did not appear by default and above the tracks there was a button to toggle them on. Now in Bandlab these boxes aren't there at all and I can't find any switch to turn them on. I just watched a 15 minute tutorial on midi basics in bandlab and the guy never touched the subject and just worked with piano sounds. Someone please tell me how to change the patch of a midi track
