I find that when browsing through a samples folder for instance using the browser, it is all too easy to accidentally double click a file which then highlights the file in blue and brings up the cusor to rename the file. It is also very easy to then have the name of the file disappear completely when clicking away auditioning samples.

    +1 on this.

I too find myself names disappearing from my samples without doing a rename - it's annoying.

  2. I think it's both.

Windows being the platform to give cakewalk the ability to perform these tasks - and Cakewalks coding to guide and demand them to their own space and place.

With that being said: I do agree that it needs an update - here's that huge BUT though! This means a totally new redesigning of the entire "virtual matrix."

Cakewalk has this "GRABBER" (if i may) linked to the Multidock - much like the one in windows when dragging the window Up to maximize it, and Down to minimize it again.

In Cakewalk, this for some reason is "visible" and In front of every window (as shown in picture 1 below) which has to do with their "one windows workspace" thing introduced in X1.

    I could be wrong!

The Inspector View, Browser, Piano Roll, Console view, Matrix View, Tempo View, Loop Construction, Staff View (Just to name a few") all have that "Blue Ribbon" and all are linked to the "MultiDock." That's why you have the option to dock it either "on top or bottom."

Imagine the coding that needs to take place for each of these windows to have their own individual "space" - that's a whole new DAW

Again - I could be wrong!

Agreed, Cakewalk has already most of the code to accomplish a sample track. That would be lovely.

    It will be.

I normally use the loop construction for minimum changes in key pitches if its like one or two notes that need to be changed. If we can get this and time stretch fixed.

  4. Hey Ugo.

    Shortcut keys I use daily:

    Rewind to landmarks = W

Toggle ‘on stop, rewind to now marker’ on/off = CTRL+W

Stop with now marker = CTRL+SPACEBAR

    Audition selection = SHIFT+SPACEBAR

    Go to start = CTRL+HOME

    Go to end = CTRL+END

Jump to next marker = CTRL+SHIFT+PAGE DOWN

Jump to previous marker = CTRL+SHIFT+PAGE UP

Go to selection start (from time) SHIFT+G

You also have the option to bind your own Shortcut keys in preferences be hitting "P"

  5. So with all these requests for a sampler that's been popping up the past week, why not just link the Loop Construction to work with your keyboard and virtual keyboards. It has half the functions of a basic sampler already.

All that's needed from it, is to trigger it with your keyboard and the ability to drag samples in it, done - at least for now, right?

Why not go in a brand product promotion contract with Sitala? It's a free sampler. They get introduced to new clients and CbB members get's a free sampler intergraded into Cakewalk. It's a really basic sampler.

Thinking further about this, I am thinking that the Vdist runtimes might have been the culprit here  (which would have been reinstalled).

Could've been, not sure what caused it though, but hey - spend the entire day giving my system an overall service. Just have to install every thing again. System is running smoother now. 💪 Feelling that i7 4th gen again.

    I'll give an example;

    - View --> Console View

    - Undock the mixer window and make it float by grabbing the console tab.

    - Maximize it.

    - Close it.

    - Open it again by View --> Console View.

    - You will see that the last maximized state is not kept. It is again minimized back.

    Kind Regards,

    Yeah. Like I said.

Yes but I have requested to keep the size of the mixer window when undocked not docked.

Also things like piano roll don't remember the D docking state, but work per clip.

Do you mean when you close it and open again and not minimized?

I've come to the conclusion a couple years ago, that it's probably linked to the multidock - that includes all floating windows.

It's like the multidock grabs the console window when you're too close to a certain hight in it's matrix. I permanently use floating windows for my Browser an  Inspector. This is since the LE version came out of X1.

The reason I said test that specific plugin is to make sure that the GPU on your Graphics card is doing it's job of increasing GUI performance.

If this was a common issue among Cakewalk by Bandlab 2020.11 users, these forums would have lit up with "me too" in response to your question.

Personally, I am suspecting something with your system rather than Cakewalk itself.

Sure, uninstall and reinstall Cakewalk by Bandlab if just to rule that out.

    A reinstallation did the job.

Think i'm still just gona clean the components anyway, and a clean install of the O.S with a disk format.  I am in the process of doing it anyway.

Sonar / Cakewalk went from being one of the most popular DAWs around to being an also ran partly because those making Hip Hop, EDM etc found it easier on other platforms like FL Studio etc. because of the built in sampling capabilities. Not because of a lack of any diagnostic tolls.

Holy sweetwaters! The truth in this! 👑

This is popping up in my mind too. It could also be the new update to Windows 10 20H2 I did last week.

I first did a 2 month check for stability on my laptop (happy with it.) Though it's a model smaller than my studio system - have no issues with it.

Busy backing up everything to the external to get ready for a clean install of Windows 10. Haven't done this for over 2 years, so I believe one is long overdue.

Before doing that though, I'm gonna clean every component first, the rams, remove the CPU and apply new paste, clean the graphic card, run hard drives tests etc.

    It's a dreadful task. 😣

I am not sure a reinstall of Cakewalk by Bandlab will actually make a difference.

    Most often it does.

As a test (and if you have the plug in)

There's no plugins in that project yet - it's all stems that was sent to me.

    And . . .

Yes, even on an empty project it does it too.

Is Cakewalk the only program experiencing this lag?  Are there any other processes running in task manager hogging the CPU (I guess you would have checked that)

As far as I know. I don't recall it doing this before. I'm on 2020.11 a day later after it was released.

  13. Feature request to re-install/repair, or -what ever name fits the idea, (well-basically as what it suggests.) To "re-install/repair" the installation from within Cakewalk or Assistant.

The only way for me to do this now, would be to rollback to 2020.10 and update to 2020.11 again - right?

Not here.   What graphic adapter do you have?  Do you have the latest drivers for it? (Check using manufacturer's websites rather than Windows updates)

Yeah. Done all those checks yesterday, even cleaned out my fans, CPU and Powersupply. Checked all my windows updates too.

I'm a huge believer in MSI for close to 20 years now.

    MSI Radeon RX  - 4GB DDR5

What I haven't yet is a re-install. I'm looking at it now, but I don't see away to do that from in the within cakewalk or the Assistant.

  15. This is becoming more of a "need" now.

I literally had to ask a client to stop recording for 10mins as I was busy going through my inputs and setting for why I'm in "stereo."

This really messes with me sometimes - like, again today.

Dont know why now after all this years.

Have you set the input when adding a track to "Input 1/Left Input" for Mic recording?

    Hi,

are there any updates on this? Does anybody know if the roadmap for the coming months includes improvements for Track View / PRV navigation?

    thx

Have you tried alt+mouse wheel roll?

If it's not on by default, go to Options in the track pane, scroll down to > Mouse wheel zoom options click on it and set your settings at now time and active track (I think that's what it reads) or which ever you prefet - not in front of the Studio System right now.

Hope it's what you're looking for.

You can also try the Ctrl+left, right,up and down directional arrow keys on the keyboard.
