  1. I got a bad virus that screwed up my system a while back and I thought I'd recovered everything but when I load an old cakewalk file I get this error message in Kontakt

"Loading Instruments Has Failed As Their Libraries Are Not Installed On This Computer"

My Kontakt directory seems a bit mangled still by the virus.  Kontakt loads up fine and doesn't show any problems except when I try to load in this one project.  I

Is there some way to find out which library/instrument it is trying to load.  I presume cakewalk has this information somewhere in the .cwp file as it would have to to load the instrument.

    Thanks for any help!

  2. I may have solved the problem.  I rendered all of the melodyne tracks, and deleted a bunch of old tracks in the project.

I suspected that somehow melodyne information from deleted tracks somehow was being saved in the project and so I loaded in safe mode and towards the end it asked to load melodyne three times, when there were no melodyne tracks in the project.  i said no.  I also asked to load  vocalsync which is odd because I don't use vocalsync.  I said NO and saved it.  Then I reloaded it and it did NOT ask to load melodyne,  Loaded again in regular mode and Waves seems to load properly.

My theory is that I cleaned out old information from the file, not sure if this is accurate.  But hopefully it will work now

Might not seem relevant, but did you do something with the view in Windows? I did once to make the view larger and it started cutting parts of my plug-in interfaces out.

Thanks for the response.  I have three monitors and have for a long time.  I'm not clear what you mean by "the view in windows" I presume that means the icon size, sometimes my computer scrambles that and i reset it back to normal.

I've also noticed some of my waves plugins freeze when I open their windows.  the plugins work fine but i can't access them, not sure if it's related.

Melodyne is one of those plug-ins where the best practice is to do your editing, then do the bounce to clip and that completes the Melodyne "session" -- it gracefully closes.

It doesn't play nice when it's left to work in real-time while you're still working on your project, and definitely not multiple instances of it.

I found all this out the hard way. If you're worried about printing an effect into a track, make a copy of the track and then archive it first. That's what I do now. Works great with my flow.

thanks for the response.  I didn't know you could load multiple instances of melodyne.  i just load one but often work on two or three tracks. somehow something got stuck here in this file.  still haven't figure it out.

  5. On my new project the pull down menus inside of melodyne won't appear now so when I put my cursor over

it will highlight "settings" or wherever I put the mouse, but the menue don't pop down.  The cursor does not get stuck and the other features work fine but I can't access any of the menus.

It is ONLY for this project other projects work fine.  I have tried rendering all of the melodyne sections and saving as a new file and it doesn't change anything.  I have tried shutting off my computer and doesn't help

Older versions of the same project work fine.    Thanks for any help.

The cursor (what I'm calling the line in the center, still a bit confused by cakewalk thermology) has started freezing and not moving frequently when I'm comping.  If I do some cutting and pasting it doesn't work.  The only thing that seems to unfreeze it is to do cut a section for comping.

    I have REALTEK internal

I tried the scroll lock thing and I've tried running wave profiler, I'm on a newer computer and I think it has to do with my new system:

  7. My biggest problem with cakewalk has to do with crashing when I freeze tracks, happens about 1/3 of the time when freezing large tracks. hoping this update takes care of it, but am not going to update until the above problems are dealt with.  Plus I tried to update and bandlab froze.  Freeze seems to be going around! 🙂

    thanks for a great program.

  8. It was recommended to me to quantize the recorded guitar on an old track of mine and I am wondering if the features in Cakewalk are the best way to do that, or is there an even better way that I should explore?   I couldn't find much info and much of it was confusing but I used AUDIOSNAP and set the duration to 1/8 notes and the STRENGTH to 95% (under the theory that I didn't want it to sound too perfect).  I did this on BOTH double tracked guitars at the same time.   Was there anything else I should have explored in the settings?  I saw a video that suggested "split beats into clips" but when I selected that there was a click sound on the beats.

I THINK the new version sounds much better (I also did some EQ tricks on the guitar) but I would love others thoughts on it.

    Here is the original version

  9. All i can say is "I"m So Happy"

The plugin problem has been bugin me for months and I've realized it was causing problems for me going back a long time and I have been checking twice a day for the update now I'm breathing a sigh of relief that I don't have to double check my plugins all the time.

Thanks again for tracking this down

  10. I am often told that I shouldn't start will all instruments in a track but often should add them in as song progresses.  I have a song:

where I have two guitars playing one left and right and I think I want to try starting off with just one playing (and probably keep the centered drums and bass) but am worried that it will make the track sound unbalanced with it just coming out of one side.  Is it standard practice to more center an instrument at first and then move it to one side when the 2nd one comes in.

Anyone know of any good tutorials on bringing in one instrument at time?

  11. This is considered by many to be my finest song, and one of my most popular on the internet, written with Freebo.

My process is that I used Band In A Box REALTRACKS for most instruments.  In this song I played double tracked guitar and my stand up bass player played stand up bass.  I have Ozone and Maserati Waves plugins on many tracks.  I also Melodyne my vocals.

Am open to ANY constructive feedback on how to tweak the track to make it better.  I am trying to get up the courage to use ADDICTIVE DRUMS for drum tracks.  Band In A Box has pretty good drums and they are easy and actual recording of people playing.  But you can't edit the instruments and they come up on one stereo track rather than a seperate track for each drum

  12. I've used Cakewalk for 20 years (with huge breaks of time in there!) I've used it mainly for audio recording and editing, including integrating it with BAND IN A BOX which I use to easily make audio tracks for my songs (I'm a singer/songwriter/guitar player mainly)  This has worked out great and I understand the program fairly well.  However I have never really done anything with MIDI.  I've been a bit spoiled by Band In A Box (and occasionally recording actual musicians) generating really good audio tracks for me that I haven't sat down and really learned to make tracks from midi.

I find the idea a bit daunting.

Don't get me wrong I basically understand how midi editing works and how the functions of cakewalk work and I surely could edit a pre-made midi track if need be.

But the idea of taking a song I've written and going from chords/melody to a complete track seems a bit overwhelming and I'm not sure how to start to approach that.    I'm used to simply typing in chords and having band in a box doing the heavy lifting, but then you have to take what it gives yo./

Are there really good videos people can recommend and/or libraries of midi tracks.  I occasionally see programs for sale, but they aren't cakewalk specific.

    i'm mainly singer/songwriter type stuff.

I'm considering starting with learning drums.

    Any thoughts appreciated
