That's a pretty big flaw. I'd say it would be a dealbreaker in any DAW.  If you don't want help, fine - use your Mixcraft. But if you'd like to get it working I suggest you edit the name of your post to something that describes the problem -- so people will read it -- and include a few more details in your post, like what soft synth won't load, has it worked before, how are you trying to load it, etc. Best of luck!

I’ve asked for help when needed.  It’s when I start to do detailed editing beyond simple recording and mixing.  I get crashes from the included Effects Plug-ins.  Sometimes just opening a previous project crashes the program, which then causes other issues within the project when I get it to load.

I’m not trashing Cakewalk.  It’s just not currently working out “for me”.  I didn’t say I was completely giving up on the program, just that I’m on the fence due to some stability issues.

As far VST’s used, I’ve been using the included Studio Instruments, and Xpand!2.  I know other users are successfully running Xpand!2 with Cakewalk.  I’ve been wanting to test the programs stability using only what was included, but I can’t do that because the TTS-1 is glitched, which is why I’m using Xpand!2 in its place.

Apart from adding an instrument track, and it showing up in the console but not the main recording screen (I take it you mean track view), you've not been specific about the other bugs.

The adding instruments issue, I suspect is down to you using a lens that was set to 5 tracks when you created it.

If you set the lens to "none" up in the top right does the issue go away?

It’s not a lense setting issue.  I can start a new project and go beyond the 5 tracks I used for my composition.  It just stopped adding them to the track view.

  3. So, I’m on the fence right now with Cakewalk.  I’ve been spending a lot of time reacquainting myself with the DAW.  I found myself spending considerably more time with it than my other DAW (MixCraft 8 Pro Studio).

I really like Cakewalks GUI, and the many customization options as well.  However, my biggest issue is with various bugs that make the completion of a song very difficult at times.  I use VST’s exclusively, and I don’t do audio recording into the program.  I do a lot of detailed editing to tracks as well via the piano roll too, but these little glitches often derail my compositions.

I constantly save my work as I go, but I often hit bugs that require me to close the current project or program altogether, and when I reopen it, the issue is still present.  I’ve had several projects ruined because of the bugs, including my most recent project that I’ve been working on for several days.

For whatever reason in my latest project, I cannot add an instrument track that loads properly.  I’ll create the track with my selected VST, and it shows up in the console, but not in the main recording screen.  The console will show 6 tracks and the main screen only 5.  I’ve made no changes to settings either.  It just won’t add an instrument track now.

I think I’m going to shelve the program until the next update.  I’m not going to make a big fuss either because after all, this is a free DAW with free VST’s and plug-ins.

I’ll still tinker with it, but for project completion, I think I should stick with my current DAW.

  4. Ever since I got Cakewalk, I find myself using my other DAW much less (MixCraft 8 Pro Studio).  It’s odd too because MC is actually a really good DAW, and it comes loaded with VST’s and plug-ins.   It’s also incredibly easy to use, yet I still keep going to Cakewalk now.

  5. I’ve been experiencing a very annoying copy/paste bug with Cakewalk.  For whatever reason random tracks after being pasted have inconsistent volume levels.

For example, one particular track showed the exact same velocities as the other pasted sections when I compared them in the piano roll.  However there was a nearly 6 decibel increase in the sound after it was pasted in another section. I watched the meter, and it showed nearly 6 decibels.

Anyone else have issues with copy/paste?

I don't know if it's on purpose. But it should be said that Roland soundcanvas is not cheap.

Exactly!  That SC VST is $125, and it’s actually pretty limited too.  I don’t think it’s worth the price.

  7. I’ve read a lot of good reviews about Studio One..., might have to try that one out too.  Just for kicks and giggles I downloaded the trial version of Ignite by AIR.  That little program surprised me.  Unfortunately you can’t add any sounds to it though.

  8. I’ve been considering downloading the trial demo for Samplitude Music Studio.  Is the program worth the $99 price?  I pretty much have my grounds covered using Cakewalk and MixCraft 8 Pro Studio.  I bounce between the two because MixCraft has its own suite of included VST’s that are pretty good.  Does Samplitude Music Studio include any Brass and Woodwind?

  9. What other DAWS are you using?  I’ve only recently come back to Cakewalk.  I didn’t even know it was still available.  I’m still confused about how they can offer it for free.

The other DAW I’ve been using for years is Acoustica MixCraft.  Currently have MixCraft 8 Pro.

I have the muffled tts-1 too.

It happened somewhere around the second or third update.

Glad it’s not just me.  I’m not too concerned as I have other VST’s that honesty beat the TTS-1 (such as Xpand!2).  I just like the nostalgia of that old Roland GM set.  Hopefully the devs can sort it out.

  11. I’ve been having an odd issue with the TTS-1 since I downloaded Cakewalk.  When I first open it and play a few sounds everything is fine, but not long after the program develops an issue with the sound.

As I’m playing I notice notes won’t trigger properly unless I fully release a key prior to pressing it again.  Some notes have an obvious muted sound to them.  I initially thought it was simply a polyphony max, but it happens on a single note.

I’m using an 88 key hammer action controller with Cakewalk, and I ruled it out as the problem.  When the TTS-1 is acting up, I can select another track and have no issue with whatever VST is loaded to that track.  It’s only a problem with the TTS-1.  I also tried another one of my keyboards as a controller (Yamaha MOXF-6), and the TTS-1 does the same thing with it.

    Thx

  12. I can say that the suggestion of optimizing Windows for Audio is essential these days.  Have you gone into Task Manager and closed unnecessary programs running in the background?  Those programs can add up, and will constantly chip away at precious CPU power.

Are you disabling your Anti-Virus software, and making sure your WiFi is off.  What you really need is the ability to completely disable your Anti-Virus, and some virus software will not allow you to fully disable it.  Anti-Virus software can eat up a lot of CPU.

If you’re not going to be online while recording, disable your Windows Firewalls.  Just remember to turn them back on if you go online.  I’ve completely removed 3rd party Anti Virus software from my computer and just use the Windows Defender Anti-Virus.  Windows Defender can be completely disabled too.

I don’t know your personal computer use, but my music computer is strictly for music.  I only activate Windows Defender and the Firewalls when I’m updating something or downloading new music software.

If you have the resources to use one computer for music, and another for your internet needs, I’d strongly suggest this route.

Also we have similar computer specs.  I have an i5 with 8 gigs of RAM, and an SSD second drive.  I can squeeze a lot out of that computer .

  13. I’m having some clipping which I assume is related to latency settings.  My previous DAW (MixCraft 8 Pro) used the Windows Wave RT driver, and I was set at 18 mil secs with no issues.

In Cakewalk I don’t see Wave RT as a driver option, and the programs scans have automatically set me down to what appears to be 10 mil secs.  I can’t seem to increase that.

Any suggestions?  I used Cakewalk many years ago (probably more than 15 years ago), but I can’t get it to increase.  All my work is through VST’s.  I don’t record audio so the Windows Audio RT driver worked great for me in MixCraft.

    Thx!

  14. I need help with velocity editing in the piano roll.  Just recently switched to Cakewalk, and my last use of Cakewalk was many years ago.  Im trying to edit my drum track in the piano roll.  Is it possible to select all events on a part and adjust the velocity on all simultaneously?  Example; setting all the bass drum events to a velocity of 50, and not having to adjust them individually.

In my other DAW (MixCraft 8 Pro), I can select all individual part events, right click and set a velocity for all simultaneously.  It saves a lot of time.

    thx!
