  1. I'm a big Gillian Welch fan, but somehow I'm not familiar with this song. And yes, David Rawlings is an amazing guitarist.
Your voice fits this song so well. Really enjoyed the listen.

  2. I have no sound engineering or mastering credentials to my name so I'm just going by my own personal experience here.
I listened to the song without reading the comments first and I too thought the drums were holding things back. I know my hearing ain't what it used to be but maybe all the beats aren't prominent enough? So maybe replace the hi-hat and stick or add in some toms for a fuller drum sound.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Kind of funny that you cited that one phrase since I did it that way deliberately because it just seemed to fit the beat better. Another one of those things that you do over and over until that's the way you think it should be, but then it doesn't sound right to another listener.

I never really noticed that example from Fleetwood Mac but I see what you're saying. One of the local radio stations keeps playing Don't Stop Believin' by Journey.   "A singer in a smokaaaaay room"   drives me crazy.

    Thanks for listening and commenting.

  4. Olivier,
    Very nice performance.
I thought at first this is a direct translation of City of New Orleans into French but it's not. The lyrics can be found by googling "salut les amoureux".  I used Google translate for a not so poetic English version.

  5. Thank you Bob!  We lived near Chicago when I was a kid. I remember taking a field trip to the Adler Planetarium and how awesome (in the original meaning of that word) that was.

Kloon  It was late and I forgot to de-mouth-noise the vocal. I've always had a problem with mouth clicks and smacks (just ask my wife) but Izotope has some filters that take care of it. So I did that and just posted an edited version. And I appreciate you mentioning that.

John   Thanks for listening and commenting.

Jude   Thanks.  I ran into that expression a while ago and it stayed with me.

Yeah, this is one of your better efforts, tho I've liked all your submissions. Listening to this I got a little nervous since it seemed like the delays  were all going to crash into each other somewhere along the line, but didn't happen. Enjoyed the lyrics and boy I really liked that guitar solo starting ~1:20.

  7. I like this song a lot.  Bit of a reggae thing going on in there.  Really good vocal (great reverb too) which makes me not care so much that I don't understand the lyrics. The synth at 2:27 didn't work for me - seemed like a departure from the laid back mood of the rest of the song.

  8. Thanks Freddy.  Glad to see that you made it over here.

Thanks Lynn.  Never thought of Lord of the Rings.  Interesting to hear how people react to music in different ways.

  9. What a likable and infectious groove you have going. You had me toe tappin' the whole way through. Really like the chord changes, the driving beat and a couple of change-ups to add some variety.

  10. Thunderbird here but I have to check the server to see what's in the spam folder. I haven't figured out how to download the spam  to a folder on my computer and don't really want to do that anyway but once in while a legitimate email lands in the junk folder.

  11. I liked the part with the guitar in it.  You mentioned Arturia Pigments on SC. How do you like it?  I thought about getting it but it seemed too similar to Serum.

  12. Steve,
    Thanks again for commenting.

Yes, I did post that travel video a couple of years ago at the old forum. It was twenty min long which was a bit much to ask people to sit through.

    Tom,
Yikes, I didn't notice that glitch at 0:21.   I feel like I'm putting out little fires with every revision.
    Thanks

  13. Kloon,   thank you.

Actually  I thought I had too much reverb esp on the whistle.   Good point about the stereo width.  That was something I meant to pay attention to, but just forgot.  I'll get to that next version.

This is another song I wrote a few years ago that was part of the soundtrack to a travel video about Scotland.
I added a bass track and a low whistle track (kind of like a flute). Not sure if the new tracks helped or hurt the piece though. The whistle instrument is from Kontakt factory library and so is the violin.
    Thanks for listening.

  15. I forgot to add this:
Did you ever see Das Boot, which is  WW2 from the viewpoint of a U-Boat crew?  It's all about sounds in a submarine - destroyers passing by overhead, bulkheads breaking apart, depth charges. There's a sailor with head phones on whose job is to just listen for nearby ships using some kind of directional microphone. Great movie.

  16. Not sure how I would have reacted if I hadn't read the comments first, but since I did and I knew what to expect I kinda got into it. I've experimented with Reaktor a little so I understand some of the things  you did.

  17. The song has a really nice atmosphere to it.
I kept expecting something to fill in the pauses but you have a bit of a minimalist approach going in the song, which I think works well.

I wanted another clue to what Mary's plan was since there's some ominous stuff  going on, but I think you intended for the listener to make up a story for themselves.
