  1. Doug, you must live at the Toby studio you're so prolific.
Don't think I've heard the BG "aaahs" in your songs before. Nice.
Performance and production are excellent as usual.

  2. Looking at the waveform told me to expect a roller coaster ride to the event horizon. Very creative but also Kinda spooky sounds you came up with there Wookie, like the sound of coyotes in the middle of the night.
I like the abrupt ending - poof you're gone.

  3. Gonna put this one on my top 5  Lynn's songs. Wasn't sure how curare would work in a song but you made it happen.
Great orchestration - really like how the guitar and organ play off each other.

  4. Totally simpatico with the lyrics Freddy. Wish we would all just pause once in a while and think about what we're doing.
I like the ending that just stops.
Musically I think the song is a bit too dense - too much in the background that takes away from the voc.
    I really enjoyed it anyway.

  5. Paul, good lyrics, good story. The accompaniment could use more work I think. Just seems like it meanders a bit. Also, the percussion sounds like a click track to me so maybe more attention there as well. Anyway, just one man's opinion.

  6. Steve,  yeah I think you're right. The song is long so it would be easy to cut a minute or two to lessen the repetition.

Jack, Tim, Makke, Doug   thanks for listening and commenting

Tom,  I like the "3 minute rocker" bit. Reminds me of The Who movie The Kids Are Alright (highly recommended). Pete Townsend says there's a rule in rock music - 3 minutes and 3 chords and that's it.

  7. Great job Steve!
I have some hearing loss which makes it hard for me to follow lyrics so I was glad you posted the text.  You have some great lines that must have taken a while to come up with.  I don't know what resources you use but I would recommend rhymezone.com for rhymes and as a thesaurus. Very handy.

  9. I was really glad to hear a change up from your usual fare Doug. This is kind of a bossa nova fusion genre which you handled very well.
Production and performance are up to your usual high standards.

  10. I was expecting Jimmy Buffet to come in at the beginning.
So I'm sitting here and actually trying to count out the eighth notes.  Guess I'll just take your word for it, Wookie.
I like the wandering panning effect.

  11. Steve, it's a beautiful song.

Voc is  front and center just where it should be.
Strings come in at just the right time.

Some picky notes I took while listening:
Almost seems like a different song starting ~2:00. IDK maybe the accompaniment changed a lot there. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just something that caught my attention.
A few plosive 'k' sounds here and there.
The keys are a tad loud at 2:40.

Your voice matches the mood in most of your music, or maybe it's the other way around. Anyway, nice work on this one, Steve.

  12. I agree with the above comments. Can't say I'm qualified to offer voice advice (just listen to one of my songs) but you could try something like Izotope Nectar or just play around with EQing the track. Melodyne is great for small pitch and timing corrections.

My dream is a decent voice vst. Hope I live long enough to see such a thing.

  13. Paul, thanks for the comment. There's something about Middle Eastern and Spanish scales that really appeal. And then put a female vocalist in there and the effect is like opium or something.  There's a book called Music, the Brain and Ecstasy that describes it pretty well.

    Thanks Tom. Appreciate the comment.

Thanks tom. My wife said the vocal is too buzzy and I assumed she was referring to the track you mentioned. Nope, she was talking about another track. She didn't have a problem with your track so I don't know what to think.  The track you mentioned does have some aliasing fuzz but I thought that would get lost in the mix. I'm thinking about applying some EQ to it to see if it sounds better.

  14. Distant Voices (and something for free)

I put some of my vocal libraries to use in this project.
It was a little tricky getting the phrases to work together and also keeping them reasonably in key.

    Vocals from:
    Rast Sound Persian Vocals
    SoundIron Mimi Page
    Heavyocity Vocalise
    Alchemy Dream Voices

    also:
    u-He Diva
    Omnisphere
    Arturia Pigments

I'm giving away a dbx 286s mic preamp/processor. You pay for shipping. I used it a couple of times but it didn't work out for me. PM me if you're interested.
