Ok, I'm stupid and you are smart. You win. Congratulations.

So...who tells the newbies to stay the hell out of this subforum?

At no point has anyone called you stupid nor have I tried to win anything. Nothing was said in malice. I stated my countering opinion about recognizing a Kontakt library to yours as I felt what you said was out of line (the extortion scheme comment). Then I said why the Kontakt Player is not an option for many developers.

Just a little reflection on that.

You have had 14 hours to edit your post.

How is i to recognize kontakt software if i don't own and use Kontakt?

Alright, but I don't know "what Kontakt looks like" either. In the screenshot in OP what are the tell signs of Kontakt? All Kontakt instruments look different to me, mostly it's the toyish GUI design that gives them away, but I always have to guess (until reading the product page).  I have a similar frustration with Kontakt instruments because I don't use them either, they're mostly not very interesting to me, I probably won't be getting Kontakt in the foreseeable future, and because it's so ubiquitous oftentimes I have to dig for the fact that what's being sold is actually a Kontakt instrument. Just saying.

The GUI of Kontakt is one of the most well known and recognizable GUI´s computer music making. Cclarry already explained the features that make up the unchancing part of the kontakt GUI. It's one of those industry standard things. You don't need to own Kontakt to know what it looks like. The Kontakt GUI's are everywhere.

This is the third time i got interested and followed the link for more info.

And it's the third time it is for Kontakt without any mention of that in the post.

If it were a win vsti i'd probably bought it.

(And way down there's a text that confirms my suspicion of the Kontakt free player has hidden bad agendas.

It says i can only play 15 minutes with this software that i bought the right to use, if i use the free player.

This smell of extortion variants is unsettling. I can also scent it in other businesses than the music bis. It's spreading and i don't like it.)

With that screenshot of the GUI the Kontakt is pretty much implied.

And making libraries available in the free Kontakt Player means paying some serious cash to Native Instruments so for small manufacturers it's quite not a viable option.

But Sharine is great, some of the best shakers around.

  4. Oh this is a nice offer. Kilohearts effects have been growing on me for a while and just updated to The Works bundle. These look simple but are some of the best and most versatile plugins around. And the Snap Head and Multipass hosts give these so much more possibilities. I can whole heartedly recommend these.

I have been eying since I learned about it some years ago. Can someone explain how Albion One is different then just an orchestra library?  Is it loop based or sample based or both? Is it mostly for film scoring or is it good as a general orchestration tool?

Sorry, I have looked at some of the videos and read the marketing material but I still don't quite grasp what this is?

Albion One contains orchestra patches, percussion, synth souunds and loops. No solo instruments. Albion is a bread and butter basic composing tool and at that it beats most others. The big thing that sets Albion apart from the rest is the Air studios it was recorded in. There are things it is great at (soft playing) and things it's not really great at (detailed solo or even section writing).

  6. My take on Majestetica is this: I find it too wet and too large. With orchestral sections there is a certain point after which the coherence of the section starts to disintegrate and the sound loosen up and looses it's size. What I have heard of Majestetica this is definitely the case. I think this and 8Dios Legion series are a gimmick to make us think that we need more players to sound bigger, when in fact the size comes from the orchestration.

One thing I've noticed in these forums - Cinesamples doesn't seem to get a lot of love from folks, aside from the Tina Guo library. In fact, I rarely see Cinesamples being talked about.

On VI Control (and elsewhere) I've heard very mixed things about Cinebrass (some really like it, some really don't). Curious if anyone has ever used it?...

Cinesamples' problem is the price.isn't easy to take the plunge. I know that Tom Holkenborg likes their strings and that the freebie snare ensemble they had a fee years back is probably the best snare ens I've used.

Wish they'd make their libraries more modular to buy.

If money is not an object, I don't think anything comes close to Fable Sounds "Broadway Big Band".  A few months ago they offered a 50% off sale so maybe near the end of this year they'll do it again.

These are really not an option for traditional orchestral writing. They're missing complete instruments that are required when writing orchestral music.

This is by no means the best out there, but is perfectly usable, much better than something like TTS-1, and a bargain at current price of £4 / $5.22 :

    https://www.pluginboutique.com/products/1837-Orchestral-Companion-Brass

They also do woodwind and strings versions for the same price.

Seing that Amicus has better options already than these I would definitely avoid buying these. Soundwise these are eons behind everything else mentioned here.

  10. I have become a fan of the Spitfire Studio Brass (I use the core version): https://www.spitfireaudio.com/shop/instruments/brass/spitfire-studio-brass/ The sound is nice and there is a plethora of articulations there.

One that I use a lot is Performance Samples' Caspian: https://performancesamples.com/caspian/ This is quite the opposite of a long list of articulations, but the are extremely playable and the sound is very cool.

Don' have this, but their Trailer Brass is very very nice: https://www.musicalsampling.com/adventurebrass/

I've also heard a lot of raving about CSS: https://www.cinematicstudioseries.com/brass.html
