    For singing.

(Trust me, it's for the best! ?)

Side-note: I have my name on more top-level dart league plaques (14) at the Horse Brass Pub (originally owned by the late creator of this beer) than anyone else.  So there! ?

Yeah, many times I wonder if a belt or two would help my vocal performance.  It would certainly make it more colorful.?

Your dart league record is also very impressive.

    My RODE NT1000.

I know there are better microphones out there but once in a while you get a good microphone that matches your voices characteristics.

My NT1000 was one of the first 1000 ever processed.

    Exactly!  Thanks!

Do those Rode mics come with pop filters?

  3. In my constant search for improvement of my vocal tracks I'm turning to you guys here.

In short, what is your favorite vocal microphone?  Doesn't matter if it's dynamic, condenser, tube condenser, ribbon or whatever.  Any brand name. El cheapo or super expensive.  Just the mic that brings you the most joy in your vocal tracks.  Let's keep it vocal for now because that's all I'm searching for.  Oh, and please, no standing on soapboxes with mini tutorials on all of the other variables in getting a "good vocal sound".  I realize all of that.  Right now, I just want microphones.

    Thanks!

I have a  DAW PC running SPLAT, using it as a backup / bailout  music system if needed.  I haven't updated the OS in many moons, so I am curious if any of you good folks are finding any issues...SPLAT still running OK with the latest updates?  (Win 7 home premium 32 bit)  Observing any weirdness?

I have to say my constantly updated (OS and App..) main system running CbB works just fine, so again thanks Bandlab!
Now if I could only download some real talent and some "number ones with a bullet!"

Careful asking questions like this.  There are some among us who would accuse you of not doing the testing yourself.  I asked a similar question about  a month ago and "John" bit my head off.

I've never really paid attention to that button, but I guess it's the button that turns all effects on or off for that specific track. If it defaults to "off," I'm sure it comes on automatically when you insert a VST on the track. @Johnbee58 are you saying that FX inserted on a track are off by default and you have to toggle that button to hear an effect?

That's the way it seems to work for me.  YMMV.

  6. On John's first picture above, the ON/OFF button to the left of the FX  (the circle with the vertical slash going through) is what I mean.  I guess the particular theme I'm using has it red for off and green for on.  I've seen it on other themes as white for on and gray for off.  It's in the Pro Channel and on the busses.  They are OFF by default.  I seem to remember they were ON by default when I was using Sonar X3 Studio, mostly because I don't remember having to turn them on when I wanted to use them.  It's no big deal to turn them on but I was just wondering if there was a way to make them ON by default.

  7. I don't know whether I posted this earlier before or not.  If I did, I forgot but it's a question I'd like answered so please forgive me if I'm repeating myself.

When I create a new channel or buss, the little on/off button is red (off) by default.  I remember in Sonar it was on by default.  Is there something in Preferences that sets this?  I'd like the default setting to ON (green) if possible.

I'll try to remember this time (if I did, in fact, post it before).

    Thanks

  8. I like the song and all the performances and the arrangement.  My only nit is it's a bit too long.   The bridge is quite nice but IMHO it takes too long to get there.  Also, I found myself wanting to hear a bit more bass.

  9. Thanks all who listened and commented.  I've heard at least one person say that they haven't heard of every artist mentioned.  I'll explain all here and provide links for as many as I can.

Michael Franks-Smooth Jazz singer/songwriter.  I love his writing but mostly the smooth way he sings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSSK4kVTxtE&list=PLtZCAN4FHsrlY73AwJzInU3Rz1a5ZbQ9M

John Coltrane-Jazz saxophonist.  "Giant Steps" is one of the most complicated pieces of music ever written-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30FTr6G53VU

Cole Porter-A jazz composer who also was quite proficient in Classical-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WX_fKVWX2s

Antonio Carlos Jobim-Brazilian composer and multi instrumentalist.  Big hit of his was "The Girl From Ipanema" in the 60s.  Also known for "Wave"-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6KDpB6skA4

Steely Dan-I think most of you here know who they are but for those who aren't sure-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bwHK1xkgJA

Lionel Hampton-Vibraphonist from the Big Band era.  This man could play with two mallets in each hand-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf0wHvU2EZQ

    Duke Ellington-another Big Band giant-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrytKuC3Z_o

Frank Sinatra (ol' Blue Eyes) -another one I'm sure everybody's at least HEARD of-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onWf4_yl-pY

Ray Charles-Black R&B & Pop artist.  Also helped to popularize the "Boogie Woogie" genre.  See the bio pic if you can.  It's great!-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8Tiz6INF7I

    Joe Jackson-Not Michael's dad.  THIS guy-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJwt2dxx9yg

    Miami Sound Machine-Gloria's sensational!!-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPOSGVUYgVQ

Tower Of Power-Still going strong after 50 years.  This was their first big hit in 1972-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exVwi9IhIik

Dan Fogelberg-Big inspiration of mine.  Sadly lost in 2007-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5x9_vsrKZo

Les Paul-I could write a whole song about this guy.  No doubt some of you play the guitar he designed.  But he also showed us how to "lay it on down" by inventing the technique of multitrack recording-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJaNMZmBR6E

George Martin-"The 5th Beatle."  He not only laid down the Fab Four's best but innovated and pioneered many special effects we use and hear today-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpRvLdQ2jg8

I don't mean to insult anybody's intelligence.  I'm sure most here at least heard of some of these people, but for the benefit of those who might not have, or don't know of one or two.

  10. So sorry I didn't get to this sooner.  I thought I did already have a listen but I guess I did not.

Anyway, loving the acoustic guitar work.  Beautiful.  It complements everything else in the song so well, including your voice.  Very nice!  Also loving the bells and string pad.  Very pretty song.

    Hi John

To answer your question of tape speed when it comes to a 688 MIDI-STUDIO it only runs at the higher run through of 3.75 (apart from the pitch control which gives a variable speed of around 10%)  that is the 'standard speed' on this machine and doesn't run at the normal cassette speed... bet you wished you hadn't asked now :$

Your dead right about the 'dirty and fun' bit, but we were all so much younger then ....:P

Thanks for the title change but I ain't been into proper english since a kid ...buggered if I'll start now ... LOL

Thanks for message, and from one Luddite to another 'take care'

    Best regards

    Steve

Some of the "portastudios" as they were called, offered 2 speeds. I believe the Yamaha MT2X was one.  My Fostex also had only the higher speed.

  12. Nice arrangement.  I could hear a full orchestra play this for sure.

I take note that on your pic you have a violin on your shoulder.  Is that your main instrument?  Do you have a bit of that in this production?

    ?John B.

  13. Sounds really good for an analogue recording.  Did you run the tape speed at 3.75 ips or standard?

I still have my old Fostex 160 multitracker from 1987.  It's in my basement with my Yamaha RX17 drum machine (1988).  Analogue was dirty but it was fun (kinda like sex?).

BTW-Proper English in the title would be "You're The One".  ?

  14. I uploaded a link to a YouTube video I made and posted it on the Song forum.  Upon listening to it myself from Youtube I determined that the music track needed to be boosted in volume.  I corrected this on the video but this meant that I needed to re upload the video to a new URL.  I was hoping to change this on the song forum via the EDIT feature but it doesn't seem to want to let me remove the old URL and replace it with the new (louder) one.  Can this be done?

    Thanks

    ?John B

  15. Thanks, Bob.  Regarding Ginger-I got a call from the vet's office today and they did something very kind.  They made a plaster cast of her paw print in the shape of a heart.  It's adorable.  It's the perfect keepsake.  I cried again when they gave it to me.  I miss her so much.?

    Thanks Bjorn!
