  1. Sure, use what works for you! I was a Sonar Platinum Lifer, but realize that the last version of Sonar Platinum is missing about 5 years worth of bug fixes and features that the Bakers have added to Cakewalk since...
  2. Toontrack EZdrummer 3 does that really well.
  3. The Deals forum is a mix of DAW users. Some are using Cakewalk, and some are not.
  4. Ha! You just beat me to it! Got their email this morning in my inbox!
  5. No need to go to the Youlean website for this free edition! No Youlean account or authorization is required. This download is available at Plugin Boutique and hosted in your account there. Anyway, I always scan downloaded installers in VirusTotal before running them, and 69 AV engines say this file is clean.
  6. Read the NI forum. They are "working on it".
  7. How so? Not a problem from here recently... maybe it's just getting hammered tonight. The Epic content servers seem to be OK. Downloading a game right now via Epic Games Launcher at my ISP max throughput rate.
  8. I'm still using 1080p, and that's a stretch with my old eyes using K6. Usable but not great. I'm wondering about the HiDPI update in K7, as the NI info so far implies that is for the "Browser" only. The rest is probably for some future update...
  9. I'm just about to embark on the ARK for the first time. Any recommendations for the best place to start? It looks massive!
  10. Neither do I. Just waiting for a better price!
  11. Interesting, and I have heard some folks recommend that setting for DAW use, and others say not to do that. In any case it can't hurt to try! Glad that it worked for you, but that would also tell me that your PC is probably running pretty close to the edge of what it can do in real-time.
  12. Surge is actually many years old. The open source dev team has updated it to XT and added some things, but the core should still be well behaved.
  13. That's a price you pay for having a plugin with very fancy eye candy! The dev has been reworking the Vital graphics engine, but there will always be a limit to how much that can be optimized. I have noticed via Windows task manager that my Nvidia GTX 1650 takes on some extra GPU load when using demanding plugins like this one.
  14. AmpliTube 5 is pretty computationally intensive (CPU usage), with their new modeling technology. If you are using it on more than one track at a time it will add up quickly. Don't know why Reaper and Cakewalk would be that much different, but there could be differences in their audio engines or load balancing. Even if you are maxing out only 1 of your 6 cores, that will result in audio breakup. Anyway, try recording with AmpliTube 5, and then freezing your track as you go on to record the next track, etc. Freezing bounces that track down to audio in-place with the FX baked in, then sets the plugin to an offline state. Freezing is reversible as you can unfreeze a track with just a click if you want to modify the FX, then re-freeze it. The plugin is still there sleeping with settings intact if you need to access it again.
  15. I hear ya, because my last PC had trouble running newer synth plugins. It definitely requires some resource management. I finally just stayed with older synths that were more CPU friendly until I could upgrade. One thing I have noticed with newer synths that use animated graphics for anything like waveforms, modulators, envelopes, etc. is that they tend to eat a lot more CPU when playing while the plugin GUI is open. When the GUI is closed, the graphics aren't constantly consuming CPU cycles. So try that out for resource management!
  16. Sep 23, 2022 Vital v1.5.3 available now at https://vital.audio This Early Access release is available for all users now: Free, Plus, Pro, and subscribers...
  17. The "Electronic" soundbank compendium looks interesting. 10 banks, which appear to mostly be for Pigments. The total full retail for those soundbanks alone would be around $130. Not that anyone actually pays full retail around here! But that sure is a sweetener for the V Collection 9 upgrade!
  18. It look like 1 free base game & 1 free ARK Modkit editor, plus 6 free add-ons. 8 total freebies!
  19. There is a free version of Youlean Loudness Meter 2 available at PluginBoutique. https://www.pluginboutique.com/products/4960-Youlean-Loudness-Meter
  20. My intent with referring to "generation" as it relates to software was to imply a leap forward in computational intensity, such as with FX that are more AI oriented, or virtual instruments that run models that were not feasible before on slower hardware. Not just new and improved versions of the same old existing technology, I'm referring to "game changing" technical leaps. Similar case with hardware, as the CPU clock GHz race, multiple cores, faster memory throughput, and SSD drives have all enabled many new capabilities that software engineers are eager to implement with. For example, when I went from a PC with a 3rd gen Intel Core at 3.4GHz to my latest PC with a 9th gen Intel Core running at 3.7-4.6GHz, virtual instruments that I once considered "CPU hogs" run without breaking a sweat! Game changer for me! I used to use u-he Diva and iZotope Iris 2 to stress test my old system, LOL! Definitely needed lots of "resource management". And I do agree about Acustica. I removed all of their stuff. iZotope Ozone or Neutron is probably okay for a non-engineer musician to get to a quick starting point for further tweaking. Obviously someone that can do all that by hand doesn't need an AI to lead the way, and less intensive stuff will do a fine job. But for better or worse, I think the bottom line is that software companies are not catering to customers with older systems when they are trying to market the latest and greatest "new thing". That's why minimum hardware and OS requirements keep trending upwards...
  21. $149 for me now. Hopefully $99 on black Friday!
  22. I just ran into that issue the other day when I was trying to drag and drop a wavetable file into SynthMaster's oscillator window. That works in other DAWs, so it would be nice if PreSonus would fix that.
  23. I have a few licensed Kontakt Player Libraries that qualified me for crossgrade offers over the years before I finally bought in to Kontakt: Sennheiser DrumMic'a (free Player version no longer available), Soniccouture Estey Reed Organ, and Amadeus Symphonic Orchestra. NI just seemed to randomly select one of those libraries and say that it "qualified" me. And I got the first two for free. I'm sure there are others as well. The main thing is that they were 3rd party Player libraries that had to be activated via serial number in the Native Access program. This article features free Kontakt libraries for Kontakt Player by Native Instruments: https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2020/04/27/free-kontakt-libraries/
  24. This Epic deal appears to be Windows only. Sorry Fleer, back to Steam I presume...
