I have a real one, but it's small. None of the vsti ones seemed to fit for me. The bodhran wasn't hard for me, but then I never added a bunch of the fancy stuff.

I think it does the job for you don't they?

Thanks Bridget! You nailed it right on the head - I'm trying to position myself to be in a state of creativity as much as possible. Specifically, how to be in a flow state in creativity. :)

Well good luck and I hope you reach your creative state.

I tried hard to keep it under control:

    - Melda's MTremoloMB and MSoundFactory LE (based on opinions here and elsewhere, though I kind of have my doubts about this one, especially if I won't be able to use the drum samples with it; I hope I'm wrong)

    - Liquidsonics Reverberate 3 (I demo-ed Tai Chi and love it, but just can't afford it right now, as I'd like the full version)

    - Tonex SE (long time coming) and a $3 so-so tone pack

    - One of the 8dio Soundpaint saxophones

    Still to come:

    - grudgingly, but I think I'll get an Ilok key; my old OS drive died and it's a hassle to recover some of the licenses (cough, Exponential Audio <- first and foremost, Air Music, Sonivox)

    - I should have waited with one of the JRR purchases to pick up the Inspirata Lite freebie, which I want; hopefully I'll find something cheap but useful to get it

    - same as above for Pluginboutique, as I want the Dawesome Love

It seems like you've put a lot of thought into your plugin choices and are carefully considering your options. Overall, it seems like you're making thoughtful choices to expand your plugin collection while being mindful of your budget.

This illustrates the main benefit of systems like Dell and HP: components are built to be compatible with each other.

It also illustrates that latency issues these days often don't come down to horsepower, but rather system tuning.

IMO/E, horsepower buys me the ability to run more plug-ins and more CPU-hungry plug-ins.

This is speaking as someone who never ever buys new. My systems are made of hand-me-downs and Craig's List/eBay parts. Retired corporate Dells. AAA gamers' castoffs.

My newest main DAW/NLE system (specs in sig) was built from 5 year old components. Can handle anything I throw at it, games at ultra resolution, as many plug-ins as I want.

    YMMV.

Yep the more CPU and memory you have the more plug ins you can run.

I didn't go crazy over black friday like I generally do. I'm not bapu in plugin count but I know I'm close. Anything I wanted I pretty much have and anything else I didn't really need. I was waiting for Fabfilter Pro Q 4.

I updated my Melodyne and bought Arturia Pigments ti add to my V collection. I am using a fully functional but going obsolete computer, also thinking about maybe a Mac lappy in the future, so tossing that all aound. I'll prolly still build another PC, but one of my buds is mac and I might like to work with him possibly.

I bought a Universal Audio 4/76 and picked up an Alvarez on discount at my local Guitar Center. Not quite Yairi but some of that DNA , while Chinese, my Martin X had a bag in the sound hole that you have to put a 9 volt battery in. What was Martin thinking? So the Alvarez is perfect as it has the smaller body, has decent electronics and the battery can be changed outside the guitar, also has a tuner. I love it. Action is slightly high but it builds my calluses.

I haven't had the time to download the EZD3 I just upgraded to. I have a friend who, no joke, uses Digital Performer and upgraded Garage band  and has made numerous CDs and has them out there. His mixes are stellar. Also uses GB to make accompaniment tracks and has NEVER bought another plug in. He has taught me a lesson in minimalism. I just never follow it if I come here :)

It sounds like you made some thoughtful purchases during the sales period and are considering future upgrades to your setup.

A little late to the party, but here's the odd assortment I purchased for "black Friday week":

    • Joshua Bell Violin
    • Triad Orbit mic stand to hold my Stam Audio U47 clone.
    • UHE Diva
    • Komplete 14 Collectors Edition upgrade.
    • A Bodhran drum from McNeela Music in Ireland.
    • The rest of the Topaz Labs suite (for upscaling images made in AI).
    • BHaptics Suite with arm bands for more immersion in Skyrim VR. Arrives next week - super stoked!
    • One year subscription to Solidworks Maker - I want to learn to do design some ideas I have an 3d print them.
    • 4 ounces of a CBD strain I've been waiting on for months
    • All parts to build a new DAW: Intel i9 14900, 64GB DDR5, Asus 4090 oc (because why not?), fans, drives, watercoolers, case, etc. Last new DAW build took me three weeks. I think I'm better prepared but I know this will be painful.

PS: Anyone know what to do with over $800 in Audio Plugin Deals rewards?

From a Joshua Bell Violin to audio plugins, a Bodhran drum, and even CBD—it sounds like you're gearing up for some serious creative endeavors. Your new DAW build is especially impressive, and it's exciting to hear about your plans to learn Solidworks for 3D printing.

Thanks everyone. Glad I’m not the only one who likes corny country!

Hey @Bridget Murphy  could you remove the quote from your post because that link will become dead later on as I plan on fixing the steel guitar a little more and will update the file. Sound cloud creates a new link. That’s why I don’t normally use it. Thanks.

Oh yes of course. By the way good luck on your next project.

  8. It's always fun to experiment with different tools and techniques for music creation. Good call on using Melodyne to fine-tune the steel guitar part.

    There. you go all done.

That's an exciting matchup between Ireland and Sweden, both powerhouse nations in the Eurovision Song Contest! The history of success for both countries adds an extra layer of anticipation to this year's competition. It must be thrilling to see how the Irish and Swedish hopefuls will fare in the contest.

  10. The layering options for beefing up the sound, along with an updated rhythm section featuring new drum beats, add depth and variety to the musical possibilities. The transformation of chord buttons into a playable keyboard for melodies or basslines, coupled with the drum pad functionality, makes it a multifaceted instrument suitable for different playing styles.

A cheap alternative to expensive ribbon mics might be the SE V7. It's a $100 dynamic mic for stage vocals, but with a less crispy high end. I use mine on violin all the time.  I also add the Nomad Factory E-Tube Tape Warmer plugin, which reduces any crispy high end that might still be there.

Mic positioning also makes a big difference. Using Direct Sound Isolation headphones helps with positioning. You might find a sweet spot on either side of the body. At the center of the body (the neck and strings) you got lots of raspy string sound but not much fullness.

Thank you for sharing your methods. They sound simple yet very practical and effective.

My main New Year's Resolution was to leave Facebook. I realized I'd been on it for 15 years now and haven't really done much with my life since. I've also been in a terrible music-making rut/block.

Lo and behold, I've been firing up CbB A LOT this month...I recently finished this remix of Laufey's "From The Start" - I was somehow inspired to make a drum n bass remix of her bossa nova/pop song:

laufey - from the start [e:trinity drum n bossa remix]

NOTE: Headphones or a good monitoring system (preferably with subwoofer) highly recommended.

The drum and bass remix of Laufey's "From The Start" sounds like a fantastic project, combining elements of bossa nova and pop.

I have a piezo pickup on my violin; it sounds great live. The problem is when I try to record it. I'm not making a CD or anything close but recording originals, band tunes etc. My violin sounds .. well, terrible. Is there a way to tweak that in Cakewalk so it is so ugly sounding - nasally, shrill at times, very "electric". I was surprised since it sounds so natural live (yes, I know it isn't quite natural .. but close). I'm not by any means a recording aficionado so have limited skills. I can use prochannel tweeks on the other instruments (guitar, cello, irish drum.. from BIAB) and they sound amazing.

    Good luck on your project.

I have quite a few bodhran VI's and Red Room's is, by far, the best one in my opinion. There are separate controls for both hands so you can control where the striker hits as well as where the dampening/tuning occurs. Plus, there are quite a few drum sizes to choose from. Very well thought out and very flexible. I have lots of fun with this one.

It's evident that Red Room put considerable effort into making this bodhran VI a versatile and enjoyable instrument to play.

It’s very clunky to do this with cakewalk. There are lots of DJ players that do this with a simple slide control. I had the software back in XP days.it was called Virtual DJ. Probably long gone.

Nope just checked and it’s still made-  Virtual DJ 2023. $18.
There might be others but it had both tempo matching with speed that could be set to change the pitch or keep it.
Its a multi step process in Cakewalk involving so much I always forget how to do it.

    to be clear,

i think i saw it on the plant/page collab, and not necessarily zep...

those guys are synonomous with 'zep', so it all kinda falls under the same umbrella

Thank you for clarifying your point. I actually saw a different post regarding Zep using bodhran in their performance. However I cannot find that exact post now.

THAT'S SO COOL, the bodhran, i've seen it used quite a few times,

even in a led zeppelin context,

i'd love to get one and try to learn some basic rhythms.

i'm also wanting to get one of those baritone recorder, just cuz of stupid grogu!

    LOL

thanks for listening, the drum parts i program from scratch using superior drummer 3,

usually  i start with a loop from the library that i close, then i move stuff around and edit, to use it as a main rhythm motif.

but i love working with real percussionists!

Yep, I've heard Led Zep have bodhrans in their act. Definitely has its on stage appeal.
