  1. I'm using the free Slate SSD 5.5 drums and I think they sound great. It comes with 3 kits. The Modo drums was my fave but it was giving me problems(the common theory was it was a  graphics problem) but the Slate drums work great.

  2. +1 on the Kilohearts bundle. Before I had melodyne, I used it on vocals, harmonica, bass, even on rain & thunder samples and it sounds great. I still use it to quickly shift stuff. I've only tried a few of the effects but they've all run super smooth. If you can afford the free price tag, I say go for it 👍

Here's a tip for keeping older systems viable: download HWInfo64

Thanks so much bud! There were a lot of pearls of wisdom in ur message. Firstly, I downloaded the HWInfo64(Although still trying to understand it all)

And I love the idea of upgrading to the i7. I had no idea I could do that. I'm fairly technically savvy but I've never worked on a computer in my life. I'll def research that more.

Also, thanks for confirming that my system should be fine as long as I vet vsts. I've kinda leaned that by trial & error. I'm still surprised by what this little computer is capable of.

Btw, I'm actually a very good guitarist but I've always used pretty humble gear. Back in the 80's, I got a kick out of blowing other guys off the stage using a partscaster and a cheap amp and watching them walk away defeated with their highend gear. (wow, I just reaIized I'm a little sadistic 🤣)

But u know it's the Hustle & Flow thing... The size of the fight in the dog. Or like the Beatles only having 4 tracks. There's a beauty in that.

    Anyway, Thanks again!

What are the exact specs of your "humble" PC? Processor? RAM?

    Hi Krupa.

Intel core i5 2nd gen,16 gb ram, 3.10 ghz proc, 1 TB ssd drive. 2.0 usb ports, and Pamela Anderson Baywatch screensaver 😉

(Btw, can someone please tell me how to keep these specs listed at the bottom of my messages that way u guys don't have to keep asking me?)

Ok, the prob with Modo drums vst was a CONSTANT static-y popping noise. Again, my cpu showed low usage. It did seem like more of an incompatibity issue.

Btw, I did install the Hammersmith piano vst last night and it works perfectly, even with 3 other vsts running simultaneously.

Man, I highly recommend downloading the Soniccouture Hammersmith. It's free and works with the free kontakt player. It has a similar response to the tts1 piano(immediate & consistent) and it's also chime-y and perfectly tuned like the tts-1. However, it's even richer and more realistic. It also has extensive eq adjustment, mic IRs, mechanical noises, and some great verbs. If u have 5gb of free space, try it out. (there's also demo vids on YouTube of course)

  5. Cheers guys. I've been downloading a bunch of free piano vsts. I notice that pianos like Keyzone and neo piano 1 are only about half a gig. Well, I'm tempted to download the Soniccouture Hammersmith and because it has a small library of ambient effects it's about 5gb.

Does the larger size of the file make it harder to run along side of other vsts?

I ask because I'm using a pretty humble pc with a single ssd drive and I'm usually running about 3 vsts at all times(YES, I have commitment issues 😒).

I also ask because I think I've encountered this problem before. I once downloaded MODO drums free version which was a large file and it gave me bad problems(although my cpu showed fine). I then downloaded the free Slate ssd5 drums(a much smaller file) and it works perfectly.

So is that the way it works guys... Are larger vsts more likely to cause problems while running with other vsts or should I be fine as long as I don't use the included ambient effects?

    Thanks a lot!

  6. Hi guys. I bought melodyne assistant a couple weeks ago and everything works fine except when I open it as a region effect. It usually opens up blank. I have to press "D" then double click the clip for the notes to appear in melodyne. Rarely do the notes show up the first time so I'm constantly pressing D and double clicking. Any idea what's causing this and how to fix it?  Thanks!

You don’t use it that way. You have to render the track first then re do it . You will want the spend a few hours watching their most excellent tutorials.

Hi John. Fwiw, it worked. I was able to tranfer into melodyne just those new four notes.

Are u saying that once the track is in melodyne, youre stuck with the whole track as is? IOWs, if u have to punch in on a track, ur supposed to start the tuning & editing process from the beginning again?

  8. Hi guys. I bought Melodyne Essentials a few days ago and it's awesome.

However, I need advice on how to punch in/replace a small section in melodyne. For example, I needed to replace just four notes on my vocal track earlier. The only way I could think to do it was...

1- delete those four notes in Melodyne

2-  punch in the new four notes on the vocal track

3- Place the playhead right where I wanted it to start the transfer

    4- Click tranfer in melodyne

5- try my luck to press the space bar to stop it immediately after the four new notes tranfered.

I'm guessing there's a better a way to do this.

For starters, is it possible to set up 'start & stop' tranfer points(Like punch markers) within melodyne so it will only tranfer in that precise section?

If not, is it possible to set up start & stop points in cakewalk? (I only know of Loop & Punch)

Anyway, all tips are very appreciated. Thanks!

Glad my post didnt deter you, melodyne is amazing! And yes John is so knowledgeable

Thanks treesha. Well being an old schooler, my pride's been holding me back from using any pitch correction. But I now realize that saving time is priceless. And after trying out the free trial a couple months ago, I was impressed with how natural it sounded. So yeah, it's time to pull the trigger.

Well, cheers and I hope u get ur problem fixed soon.

Ps. Maybe we should stop complimenting John so much. He could get a big head and realize he's too good for us . We gotta keep him humble so he never leaves us 🤫

the SI instruments were the first new members of my digital band

I'm guessing the SI instruments will remain on the new Sonar huh John?

I LOVE the SI Strings. Please, for God's sake, tell me Roland doesn't own that too 🥺

Oh and Melodyne working fine here on latest Cakewalk.

Wow, perfect timing John! Ur like Cakewalk Superman. I was actually just typing a comment here asking if anyone else had tried their melodyne since the update.

I was planning on buying melodyne later today so when I saw this post, I wondered if it might be a bad time to buy. So yeah, Thanks for the good news. Now up, up & away to ur next post 😁

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that Cakewalk just removed the only 2 GM midi players

Hi John. In a recent comment someone questioned if the bakers had advanced knowledge that the TTS-1 would be coming to an end.

Well, a few months ago I literally asked one of the bakers(I think his name was Noel) if the TTS-1 would be included in the new Sonar and he not only said yes, I think his exact words were "of course".

So yeah, it seems clear they didn't see it coming. Cheers gents!

Without GM format midi files would playback out of control gibberish

Hi John. I once tried assigning a diff piano vst to the soft synth track I recorded using the TTS-1's piano and it was very low volume. Is this because it's a diff format? If I bought the Sound Canvas, would I be able to assign it to the midi tracks I recorded using the TTS-1(as a soft synth) or how else could I get around that?

If you update via the in-app toast it is about ~52Mb, if you use the Cakewalk Product Center, it will DL the entire installer (~500Mb).

Thanks. Forgive my ignorance but what is the advantage(s) to downloading the entire installer? And does it matter which download I choose as far as the TTS-1 goes?

It’s really only bad news for people who only have CbB.

I only have CbB. I havent done the new update yet. When I do, will I lose access to the TTS-1? (I have current projects that use the "piano 1" in the TTS-1). Thanks!

  16. Cheers guys. I wanted to give an update.

It seems I was fighting two diff problems. Firstly, I ended up trying the new iTwo and it gave me the same issues as my friend's iTwo. I then plugged my friend's iTwo back in and downloaded an old version driver I found specifically for the iTwo.

It actually worked fine. However, on one project, I was still getting that 'popping then no sound' problem.   Well, yest the Behringer came in. The driver works perfectly, it sounds great and it's quiet enough for my needs. However, when loading that one project, it's still doing the popping followed by no sound. Well, I found this...

Im hoping its just a plugin or two that's not playing nice. I'm currently trying diff things to narrow it down. (Note... One time, the song loaded perfectly but when I switched off the compressor on the master bus, it made the popping noise then I lost all sound again).

So yeah, it seems I have the driver issue fixed. Once I straighten out this particular project, I think I'll be good to go.

PS. For anyone who cares... The iTwo was better than the usb96 in EVERY single way(Noise level, preamp quality, headphone volume, layout, etc). I wouldn't suggest the 96 to my worst enemy. (Unless they need a door stop/paper weight)

The Behringer 204's preamps have much more volume and a very nice soumd quality. The only thing I'm going to miss about the iTwo is the low latency. On my system, it was super fast. The Behringer, not ao much. But I think I'll be fine with it.

Either closing the app in the task bar (right click -> Quit) or hitting CTRL-Q with the Universal Control window open and active will exit the app. It does not stay resident in memory. Once closed you should be able uninstall/re-install per the above.

Thanks. Did that, now when I try to delete it, it says "This action can't be completed because the file is open in PreSonus Hardware Access Service"

If you're getting a message saying that the files are open in Universal Control, the thing to do is quit Universal Control. You can do that from Universal Control's File menu. Down at the bottom of the menu, Quit.

Btw, I cant find this "Quit" option.

    Here's what Im doing...

    1. Pressing Windows key + E

    2. Clicking "This PC'

    3. Double clicking"Windows (C)"

    4. Double clicking "program files"

    5. Double clicking "PreSonus"

...That brings up the "Universal Control" folder. When I right click on it, there's no option to quit. And when I open it, it list the new and old files... The top 6 listed are file folders from 2/17/24. Below that are 9 listed as "Application extension" dated 4/6/23, then there are 2 listed as "Application" also dated 4/6/23. The first is "PresonusHardwareAccessService.exe" and the other is "Universal Control.exe".

Btw, when I double left click the "Universal Control.exe". It opens the Universal Control.
