Albion One is more geared to "easy production", whereas BBC is a Full Orchestra.  If you want
to get into Orchestration, BBC is the way to go.  If you just want to add Orchestral elements to
current productions, or easy productions, then A1 is the way

Thanks.  Sounds like I might get more use from A1. Is A1 at $200 a smart buy versus other stuff out there?

ST4 also lets you load in your  products like Miroslav Philharmonik 2.   ST4 to me has been a good buy especially with the iRigkkeys I/O 49  I brought. Works well for my needs along with my Casio PX5S 88 keyboard.

Yeah I forgot about that but that's also a big benefit.  Also it loads Syntronik instruments.  Having everything in one plugin is great.

Im in similar boat and have been waiting for a good upgrade deal. $80 is about right but 260GB of content... now I don’t know.  It’s so massive.  Will I use it enough hehe

The ST4 samples in the SE version are great.  The ST3 ones are crap.  But this includes like 200GB of new ST4 samples so that's what made me pull the trigger.  $80 for this amount of high quality sounds is a super deal.  Plus I like ST4 interface and effects.

  4. I had bought Total Studio Max 2 earlier in the year when it was like $250.  That included Sampletank 4 SE.

I just got a tasty upgrade to Sampletank 4 Max for like $80 after using some Jampoints.

    SCORE!

Okay, I went ahead and bought it.  Installation is oppressive, but not as oppressive as it seems.  It's the downloading that is absolutely horrible.

After an hour of running each individual installer, I realized that if you install everything and put in the same root folder, the installers are all the same (just named differently) and will install everything in one go.  I noticed this when I realized the file sizes were all the same.  They all do the same exact thing, install everything in the Sound folder, but they seem to have their own installer for people who buy modularly...

I ran about 25 of them before I realized this (before the last one for SampleTank 3 MAX).  Ugh.  My poor SSDs...

The same thing works for Miroslav (with the exception of Orchestral Percussion) and Syntronic.  Extract all zip files to a common Root Directory - i.e. E:\IK Multimedia\Philharmonik    2 - and then run the Content Installer.  It will install everything in one go.  Do not install piece by piece.  You will waste about 3 hours of your time.

The same thing works for Syntronik and SampleTank 4 - but you have to run Orchestral Percussion and SampleTank 3 SE (bundled with SampleTank 4 - but I think it's redundant and recopies content you already own with this bundle) on otheir own.

    TL;DR:

Create a Directory to hold all of your Installation Files:  i.e. E:\IK Multimedia

Extract ALL Miroslav ZIP files to E:\IK Multimedia\Philharmonik 2

    - Run Miroslav Content Installer

Extract ALL Syntronik    ZIP files to:  E:\IK Multimedia\Syntronik

    - Run Syntronik Content Installer

Extract ALL SampleTank 3 ZIP Files to  E:\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 3

    - Run SampleTank 3 Content Installer

    - Run Orchestral Percussion Content Installer

Extract ALL SampleTank 4 Zip Files to  E:\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 4

    - Run SampleTank  4 Content Installer

    - Run SampleTank 3 SE Content Installer

    You're Done.

I installed the programs through the Program Manager application.  I downloaded the ZIP files manually so that I can extract them to my location of choosing.  The Program Manager automatically deletes the extracted data (but keeps the archives).  No point doing the same work twice.

Why not just install the IK Software Manager which was released a few months ago?  Then it's just clicking a button to install everything.

  6. I'm very happy to see that IK is listening to user feedback and am looking forward to trying this.  I recently bought Total Studio 2 Max and love it but the downloading, authorization, and installation process was extremely time consuming and painful.  Not to mention the manual process for getting and installing updates.  So if this addresses that then I'll be thrilled.

Reading some of the responses in this thread, I have to laugh.  Only in internet forums can you say you've released a free new improved product and get people dumping on you as a result because version 1.0 has a few bugs.

I already have, I'll release it later today. It isn't too difficult, but some things might be hard to figure out at first. The biggest problem I had was using my FCB1010. That thing is really annoying to program. Once I got the hardware worked out, hooking up to the software was much easier.  Anyway, the video will cover how to hookup a midi controller for use with the record, next, previous, etc buttons. I'll post it here when its released. Here is another video I made with a more musical example.

What's the advantage of MSuperLooper versus just loop recording in my DAW?

Personally I think that unzipping the folders into a flash or portable USB drive and preserving them is a better option. That way when you need to reinstall (upgrades/failures...) you will not need to go through all the downloading/unzipping again. The time saved is probably more valuable than the cost of a USB drive.

As a side note,, when I got Komplete on a usb drive, I noticed that more than half of the disk was blank (unpartitioned). TSMax2 almost all fits in that half

I considered doing that but I wasn't sure how much more space the unzipped files would take on my spare drive.  Oh well, too late :)  Hopefully I don't have to reinstall this stuff anytime soon again.

I wouldn't really know.  In my mind/experience everything other than Jamstix is effectivly static loops with some minor buttons to create variation.

Unless they are going to do a drastic overhaul in that department and create something world class and next level.  I don't see the value.

Give the free JamStix version a test run (never used the free one myself), but once you hear what it does, I'm just not sure how you go back to accepting static midi files again.  The midi files AD or any other program/package offers would only be things I'd end up loading into JamStix to create a groove.

And I disagree with your premise.  A drum VST can be used just like a dumb synth...you have to play it, mainipulate it, etc to create the sound you want.  A vst piano doesnt' play itself and if I can't play keyboards but still want to use it, there are tools like Sclaer or EZ Keys that can assist with the process.  Drum VST is no different.    Those MIDI loops it comes with are going to get used up and old real quick.

I agree that MIDI files, Track Building, Groove Creation is in fact the weak part of the software, however - I'm not convinced a company like XLN is going to invest in the AI tech to bring that up to Jamstix level or beyond.

That's a fair argument.  Never tried Jamstix because I read that it's really difficult to use... Maybe I'll try it.  I do like the sound of AD2 although I'd like some more electronic or hybrid kits available for it as well.

Still, I think AD3 will greatly improve the MIDI aspect.  I don't need an AI drummer necessarily but I would like much better way to create variations, different complexity levels, fills, etc.  Something more like Groove Agent or MDrummer in that aspect.

    no thanks.

I'd prefer AD2 to continue support instead of a money grab on a upgrade I don't need.

AD Still sounds just fine, and if you just need more grooves, there are plenty of other option on the market to add to it/map and translate to, etc.

No way.  AD2 sucks for building drum tracks, the MIDI browsing and making variations.  I want them to make AD3 to address this.  Using other tools to make grooves defeats the purpose of having a drum instrument.

Thanks. I had no idea about this. Just tried it out. Works in both ST3 and ST4.

Yeah VPS Avenger uses this which I love so I tried it in ST hoping to get lucky and discovered this.  Love this way of browsing presets!
