  1. I've been using Cakewalk since it came on floppy and still said Twelve Tone Systems on the label.  I had to drive from Kansas to Oklahoma to even find a music store that sold it and had it running on a machine.  Some time, many years later, they released Soundstage reverb.  I sure do miss that one.  It had a very specific trick that I used on vocals.  I've never really been able to recreate that specific thing.  I get close.  But I don't think I ever get it the same.

For those that don't know this one, you could change the size and shape of the room and place a performer in certain places with room mics in certain places....all adjustable with a GUI where you could just grab the performer or mic with your mouse pointer and very quickly drag them around - resulting in reverb settings changes that would roughly mimic what would happen in that room that you set up. Was really cool.  My recollection is that this was just about the time that convolution reverbs were getting popular.

Do you miss old plugins you can no longer use?  Which ones?

You can use the free version of Macrium to create an image of your current C drive and use that for your new computers C drive.

In Cakewalk Preferences\File Locations you can see where all your various files are being saved. Backup all those locations and once you’ve got your new PC setup, copy all those files over to it.

Cloning a C drive and OS will work moving to a totally different machine, different chipset, processor and moving from SATA SSD to NVME SSD, etc?

  3. My 16 year old MOTU 24i/o is failing.  And the computer I'm using it on is as old.  It's an old i7 950 running Windows 10 Pro.   She's a fighter...still killing it for the most part.  But I don't dare update the interface without finally updating the computer as well.  I'll be going with the i7 12700K on an Asus Z690 MB.

My question is this:  How do I move all my project templates, track templates, effects presets, drum maps....ALL THAT to the new machine?

I've had issues with pulling this off in the past.  Basically, I usually start over.  But I have some templates and presets I REALLY don't want to lose this time.

    Thanks.

Why not upload the file to a hosting service and post a link to the file here?

I use GoogleDrive but OneDrive, DropBox or any file host will work.

Or upload it directly here if you don't mind the file size affecting your forum file upload quota.

I'd be happy to do that.  I haven't spent much time on this forum and I didn't notice that I could upload here directly.

  5. After automating a track, is there an option to make faders and knobs move on playback when the track isn't Write enabled?

I find it confusing to see a fader at 0 when the output is automated to move to -12 and then to -15.  I HEAR the automation, but I'd sure like to see the faders where they should be according to the automation lane.

If this isn't possible, maybe I'm missing the problem this would cause.  Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

    Thanks.

  6. Hi Andrea. Yes...I finally figured it out and it works great.  I'm at the day job right now, but I'll try to remember to share it with you when I get home.  I sent you a PM with my email

  7. Ok, Mark.  I'm hearing it now on playback - which doesn't actually move the midi note.  It just plays the correct note to scale.  I think that's what was throwing me off.  If I apply the affect, I'm seeing the note move graphically as well.

    Thanks for the help.

  8. Does Cakewalk have a feature whereby you can force any errant notes to "quantize" to the nearest note in a particular scale?  Not in real time, but after a performance - basically like quantizing , but for snapping to the a set key - say A#.

I was reading that this is called "Scale Quantize" in Logic.  And I swear I was able to do it, many moons ago, in long-gone versions of Cakewalk or Sonar.

  9. I've been working on a midi track template for an Alesis Nitro kit with SSD5.  I've figured out the map, and I've got it all set up.  But when I "save track as template" and then open a new project and "insert track from template", the drum map still has to be selected.  Is there a way to set this up so that when I insert the tracks from template in a new project, the drum map is already applied?
