  1. Thanks, RBH but the song is still half a foot long -- I can just scroll past it now. I can't find anything to drag to change that.
  2. I opened up a project and instead of the cursor moving along the tracks until it reaches the end of the screen and then starting at the beginning of a new screen, the entire song is condensed down to one 5" wide screen with the cursor moving at a snail's pace, taking 3 1/2 minutes (the length of the song) to travel the 5 inches. Unlike every song I've worked on since Sonar 6. I'm sure it must be something simple but I can't figure out how to return it to the default setting. Win 10 Pro Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.40 GHz, 3.40 GHz 16 GB RAM 64 bit op sys Lynx Aurora 16 ADC w/ AES16e card
  3. Using supposedly high speed DSL this took quite a while. "preparing" "downloading" rinse and repeat from about 11:00 am EST until 5. Restart had to restart several times and took a couple more hours. So regardless of DL speed that's a lot of data. But it works now. I had no idea there were optional updates I had to check for. I'll do that in the future. Thanks Robert, and the others, for the help. 👍
  4. Thanks, Robert. I'll check that out.
  5. "There are optional updates" The only option I can see is "feature update to Windows 10, version 1909" Is that what you mean? I don't see anything else.
  6. I've been loading plugins one by one to see which stops CbB from opening and saving them as I go as Scook suggested. Shouldn't plugins loaded in safe mode be operational? They show up but they aren't working.
  7. Machine? You mean my computer? It's updated automatically by MS. I assume all Win 10 Pro users are getting the same updates, which I think are mostly security updates. I haven't installed any new software.
  8. "Determining which ones can be time consuming" Especially since there appears to be no way of determining that on start up. "It could be any one or a combination of plug-ins." Can I at least eliminate the ones that don't stop CbB from opening when I okay them? Otherwise I don't see any way to determine which one(s) is/are the problem. Should I start a project without plugs and add plugins until one of them causes a crash? And why would a plugin cause a problem now but not the last time I successfully opened CbB?
  9. If it doesn't exclude a plugin from being a problem, where is the process of elimination?
  10. I don't understand how to use this process of elimination when the program stops working before I can get there. I individually allowed all the plugins to load except Melodyne, which, when I just tried a few minutes ago, showed up right after "find missing audio. I clicked "no" on Melodyne and CbB stopped working, so there is no way to continue to find out through safe mode what plugin might be at fault. I just tried again in safe mode, and after allowing dozens of plugins, the project opened. But it was stripped of all the plugins I had okayed.
  11. I did that 2 hours ago as indicated in this thread. "Something else" is a pretty broad category.
  12. I clicked 'no' to each instance of Melodyne in safe mode and it still wouldn't open. It seems that Melodyne isn't the problem and opening CbB in safe mode so far isn't yielding a solution.
  13. Entire projects are unavailable. I'm pretty sure if I used Melodyne on anything, I bounced/ froze the track so it shouldn't make any difference to existing projects whether the plugin is working or not. If I uninstall Melodyne do you think I can open projects?
  14. Yes. And if I click "no to all" the project opens, albeit without sound since there's at least one plugin on the 2 bus.
  15. It doesn't seem to be the cause. In safe mode, when I got to Melodyne, I skipped all 4 instances, all of which seem identical. When I skipped the 4th one, CbB stopped loading.
  16. Couldn't find it in file explorer, I located it with search. I'll try skipping the last instance of Melodyne. I don't know why there is more than one shown, except that I think Sonar X3 Producer came bundled with Melodyne Le and I guess I was prompted to update since it says Melodyne 4. I only see one listed here.
  17. I did that and tried opening the plugins one by one. I was going through them pretty quickly (because there were many) and there were 4 of them pertaining to Melodyne. It failed on the 4th one.
  18. I only restarted it once but it says it's updated. I checked virus permissions and 'Bandlab assistant.exe' and 'Cakewalk Start Screen 64 Inbound' are allowed. It still won't open.
  19. Thanks, Bob. Will do. Actually I just checked, and now it's prompting me to restart
  20. Also, my new drive didn't come with 10 and the OS upgrade was no longer free. They offered free upgrades for quite a while as they warned us of the looming supt. cutoff. I was wary of compatibility issues with software that was working fine on 7 Pro, so I dragged my feet. I don't think you can safely go online with 7 if you can't get recent security updates, which I think they discontinued. I could be wrong -- I'll let the experts weigh in.
  21. I upgraded form Pro 7 to Pro 10 when I changed to a new C drive. I couldn't get there with MS online instructions and the tech chat was worthless so I got their CSR in India on the phone. One issue was that I needed a new registration code (or whatever) that isn't printed anywhere on the hardware and wasn't found on any drive. I didn't have a record of it -- the computer is 6 or so years old. I think there was a 2 hour session with screen sharing during which the support guy was stumped so he had to schedule a session with one of their elite tech people. I waited by the phone while playing guitar and doing other things until after the 3 hour window that I was supposed to wait for a tech to call was up, then I called them. Something happened on their end so I rescheduled for a few days later. I got an elite tech in India and she assured me that she would be with me for her shift. ( I don't know how long that is, use your imagination) She had to navigate the various Alice In Wonderland steps while we communicated by phone and chat. We would hang up and I would call her back from time to time, sometimes having to stop for 2 or 3 hours while something downloaded and she did something else. I'd make a meal, have some coffee, play music quietly, take a nap, check the download status and call her when it was done. Rinse and repeat. (speaker phone, land line) I think it took from about 7:00PM until 4:00AM or so the next morning. So, piece of cake.
  22. Ah, okay, 9. I didn't notice that. Thanks. With any analog gear, a slider switch in the position opposite that which is labeled off would be on. Hence the confusion.
  23. I opened a simple 2 track template I had saved from the desktop icon. It loaded instantly. There are no plugins or recorded tracks on it. But CbB opened the last time I used it with actual projects.
  24. It's set to automatic update maintenance. Before I turn off anti-virus, can someone tell me why auto update seems to be paused until 3-19? I didn't do that. Also there seem to be some pending updates. I'm not being prompted to restart and I thought it was set to auto-restart in 20 minutes or something after giving me a heads up. Is someone's spidey sense tingling?
