  1. Yep, that looks utterly disgusting to me. Black or white, it looks horrible either way. That one looks like a cheap cartoon.
  2. Not really, it's not a matter of black vs white. I find black very off putting and very hard on my eyes, bright white is also bad. Having a nice balance of subtle pastel coloring works for me. I can stare at my Cubase screen all day. It's the only DAW I've used where I can think only about the music and am not bugged about some GUI annoyance. But the way it comes stock is also horrible. It's only because I can change it in a way I cannot in other DAW's. I can set up my piano roll in Studio One how I like but then everything else is still black, the surrounds the track headers, the side menus etc and if you click their inbuilt instrument it just gets blacker and blacker. You can change the track headers and mixer channels but it just looks like garish neon coloring over black, cartoonish and for me, horrible. I just cannot work with it at all and I spent a lot of time trying to adjust it.
  3. This is what Guitar Rig is designed to do. You plug your guitar in and run it through your DAW getting whatever guitar sound you want. You need to use it at about 64ms latency or lower for best feel, just like every amp sim. If you run a higher latency, there will be a delay between you hitting the strings and the sound coming out. Some can use it at 128 but the numbers are not necessarily accurate, you have to go by your ears to get a feel that is good to you. To use it, you just insert it as a normal effect in Cakewalk, plug your guitar in and there you go. Just need to make sure it's active and the meters in Guitar Rig are working to tell you it's receiving a signal. Hit input monitoring. Depending on your interface you want to make sure that you are not also hearing the direct input from your guitar coming back at you from the interface ie that the signal is going through the DAW and back only. If you want to run it on a separate FX track then follow Scook's advice. Guitar Rig benefits by using some decent impulse responses that you might get third hand and you can run them through RefleKtor.
  4. Thanks for that, this is the same for me in terms of using my computer for video editing work as well as music. I can do 25fps 1080p at around 50mbs/s either Canon DSLR or Panasonic GH4 type footage but with some strain on my current system. With my current camera, I can move to 10Bit 4:2:2 which I would like to try. If I'm going to get better performance with video editing and DAW from AMD simply because I can afford a more powerful processor from them then that is looking good at the moment. Heat might be an issue though, from what I'm reading the AMD processors run hot, heat means noise and I don't like noise. My computer is pretty silent at the moment and I would like to keep it that way.

    Guitar EQ tips

It depends a bit on what other instruments are in the mix or whether the guitar is on it's own. If you've only got drums, bass and guitar in the mix then you can leave some bass on the guitar. If you've got a piano as well or lot's of instruments or lots of guitars then what you will do to fit in the guitar will be different. It would help to know what type of guitar sound you are using (metal/rock/blues/jazz etc) and also what other instruments or vocals are in the mix. The THU amps are great for rock and metal and blues, they have a bass heavy sound with lots of depth. The THU effects are great, nice sounding off the bat and also allow for subtle tone shaping. I use S-Gear amps combined with THU effects but that is because I like a Jazzy, cleaner sound. Best way, if your new to EQ is just get the guitar sound you like on it's own, using the amps and pedals and Treb/Mid/Bass dials ie just use the amp for EQ and nothing else. The THU pedal compressor (RT?) is nice, don't be afraid to up the sustain, guitar starts to sound live. Guitarists often use the pedal compressors for tone, don't worry about it. You can change it later if you really need to. Once you've got that sound, you can save it as a preset. Next step is to fit it into the mix with the other instruments using the Cakewalk or third party EQ's that you have. That is what Mark is explaining to you. As he say's, it really is the low cut you've got to get right first, if you've got a bass guitar in the mix then you need to raise the cut so it doesn't make the Bass muddy but compliments it, especially with the THU amps. They add a lot of low frequencies which sound great playing the guitar on it's own but will add mud to the mix with other instruments if not cut out. Your guitar sound will be greatly influenced by the Bass guitar or whatever you have for bass, so make sure you've got good sounding bass and drums first. After the cut you can decide if you want to further tweak the amp settings or the DAW EQ to fit it in the mix, whatever sounds best. If you get lost on the amp, you can return to the preset. In a buzy mix, the guitar soloed by itself can sound awfully tinny but then when put back in the mix can sound great.
  6. That's a great thread for this question, thanks for posting it.
  7. The best Doors cover: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/634496860/tardis-door-wrap-policebox-door-wrap?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=door+cover&ref=sr_gallery-1-9&frs=1
  8. I think that keyboard has an on/off switch, is it switched on? Don't mean to sound smart but sometimes we can forget the simple things.
  9. I'm also a Studio One GUI hater. I used Studio One 2 to start and would have stuck with it but then they bought in the darker interface in V3 and I bought it but didn't like it, so jumped ship. At that time there were a number of complaints about it on the Presonus forum but they fell on deaf ears and then maintained the same interface with V4. I've been using Cubase 10 primarily because of the interface which allows for light coloring and pastel colors which is what I like. It is also very simple and you can keep the more complex things under the hood. However, when they brought that redesign in with V10, there were people complaining about it on the Steinberg forum. So I guess it's a personal thing with the GUI. How I have mine set up is nothing like the way they set it up on their advertising promo's. There seems to be this obsession with dark and garish color schemes across all DAW's, I like the opposite, light and gentle pastels. I still use Cakewalk for compatibility with older projects and some group projects I am doing but, although you can lighten it up and trim it down a bit, it is looking a bit dated and clunky compared to some of the competition.
  10. I Just click the "+" button above the track headers to add track then in the pop up dialog box click "instrument" and add the instrument you want to use and it's done. You now have an instrument track loaded and setup with the instrument you chose, you don't need to set up anything and you don't need another duplicate synth and midi track. Then drag the midi event from the TTS midi track to the Instrument track. The whole thing takes less than 15 seconds. This is assuming that is what you want to do. Move the midi information from the TTS multi instrument tracks to dedicated instrument tracks.
  11. When I import a GM midi file like you've done there, I end up with the same thing. Cakewalk tends to open these kinds of midi files with the TTS already set up for each instrument anyway. I don't know what virtual instruments you have but the next step I would take would be to create an instrument track using NI Kontakt studio drummer VST. That will be a track that sits alongside the TTS multi instrument (not within it's instruments). Then I drag the midi data on the TTS track that says drums onto the studio drummer track and mute the midi track, you don't have to delete it straight away but you need to mute it. Now when you play, the sound of the drums will come through the studio drummer track and not the TTS "drums" track. Then I'll edit as needed and then move on to the next instrument. Create a new instrument track with a bass instrument in it like the Amplesound P bass and then drag the midi data from the TTS track called "bass" to the new Amplesound bass instrument track and mute the TTS bass track. Edit as necessary and then move on to the next one. Is that what you are trying to do? By midi data, I am referring to the event(s) on the track. Put the mouse over it click "alt", right click with mouse and hold down and drag the event to the new track. If all you want is bass and drums then you would only have to do these steps and then you could delete everything else if you want.
  12. One thing puts me off a bit and that is why does everything you guys make have to have "Amplifikation" in front of it? on my plugins buttons that word takes up a lot of space and I cant see whats after it. Guitar Rig (<---no problem here) S-Gear (<---no problem here) Amplifikation Matchlock (<---can't see this word) Amplifikation Vermillion (<---can't see this word) Don't know which is which without clicking something. Kuassa is a nice looking and sounding short word, AmplifiKation is a wrongly spelt clumsy looking and long word. When I glance at my plugins, it makes me think I've got some pirated Russian plugin there or some cheap or freeware plugin where someone made a spelling mistake. What about: Kuassa VM (Vermillion) Kuassa ML (Matchlock) Kuassa 360 or even: Vermillion Matchlock
  13. I'm just about to give my computer a guts upgrade, CPU, Motherboard and RAM. Thought I would check out the local computer techs to see how much it would cost if they did it. I have always used Intel processors, last time I used AMD was about 25 years ago i think. I formed the view back then that Intel was more compatible with just about everything. I was a bit shocked when both techs I spoke to suggested I use AMD and said they had not been putting Intels into computer builds anymore and wouldn't be for the foreseeable future. In their words "AMD kicks intels ar$e in performance price ratio". Is it OK now to consider an AMD processor for a Music/Video editing computer? Will Cakewalk, Kontakt, Amplesound and all the other third party VSTi's and plugins work equally well on either platform? I'm curious if others are using AMD and whether or not they are having any problems.
  14. I don't use midi tracks. Create a virtual instrument track of whatever instrument you need and then drag the data onto that track from the midi track. Then delete the midi track(s)
  15. $1200.00 AUD is my limit. Which is probably about $800.00 US. I might go a bit above or I might be able to also trade in one of my other guitars. I'll also look at local secondhand, but in this case, I don't think I will get the color or look I want in the secondhand market. Yes, I did that once, unfortunately I spent the next 3 months sleeping next to a dumpster which taught me not to do that again. Highest I go is 11's. I have smaller hands, so thin, narrow necks with lighter strings work well for me. That's why the Gretch's appealed to me. People with bigger hands would probably hate them. Also, this guitar would be played 3 - 4 hours (with breaks) per gig as I would use it in a restaurant/club setting being the music for the night as I have done with my Acoustic in the past. I don't like a lot of clamping force, too hard for me to play for that length of time.
  16. I didn't get to play a lot of Artcore's because the shops didn't have many in. Might do a bit more research see if I can find more to play. I'll give one of those a go. The one in the picture is an AG95. I figure if I'm going to buy one of these Jazz style guitars then the look is just as important as the sound.
  17. Same here, I went shopping about 6 weeks ago and must have tried out about 35 guitars. After I finished I thought about the Covid-19 thing. What if others had been playing those guitars with the disease. I'm going again soon but will take hand sanitizer next time. I was looking at Artcore or Epiphone but tried others as well including the more expensive Gibson. At the end of the day for me, I was most impressed with the Gretsch models at least as far as playability and sound. I wasn't expecting that as I had never tried them. I want one like this but in a Gretsch model:
  18. I agree, half decent monitors paired with decent headphones. Getting the bass tight, clear and eq'd well is essential. I would think using a sub would result in tinny sounding mixes because swamping everything with bass will give you a false reading of how much bass is in each individual instrument. When you play back the mix on speakers without a sub, this will be revealed. Ideally, 6 - 8 inch monitors in a treated room. But that is not possible for everyone. The Mackies by themselves probably wouldn't be that inspiring in comparison, if your used to a sub, you will have to re-train your ears to the new sound. I use G3 KRK 5's but they have a port, I only use them because of where I am at the moment, if I had the space and a dedicated room I would move to Yamaha HS7/8's or Adam F7's etc in a heartbeat. I understand my Rokit's now and can do some good work with them but I back them up with Sennheiser 598's headphones with the Morphit plugin. I use the Rokits at low volume initially for general song construction (so I don't have to wear headphones all the time) and then the headphones mainly for establishing the bass and the color of the instruments then back to the Rokits for establishing stereo spread and general sound with minor tweaking. If I try to use the Rokit's for adjusting bass and color of instruments alone, I run into trouble with translation but they are great just for general listening while your composing something. If your in a less than favorable environment then I think it is a great idea to get some decent headphones, even with the cheap Morphit plugin. Whatever you do, it will take time to train your ears to the new sound. You have to have some sort of accurate monitoring system in place that your happy with. I don't do orchestral but I have recently started doing Jazz and big band and it seems to me, the more different instruments you add, the more important it is to have accurate monitoring to establish the color and eq of the instruments in the mix or it starts to get muddy and confused (on my Rokit's) and won't translate well. If I was doing Orchestral, I would probably trial something like some Sennheiser 650's with a dedicated headphone amp or some beyer dynamic. I would think that Classical or Orchestral music would be hard to get right and is probably beyond my mixing capabilities at the moment.
  19. Thanks Lee. I run an offline DAW and wanted to check that it is possible to download the products onto a separate computer (my laptop) where I can take it to great internet. Then bring the products home and transfer them to my offline DAW and open/install them there. I don't mind if I have to quickly go on line just to authorize or activate. Is this possible? It sounds as though it might be if they are using zip files but just wanted to check. Also, is there a guitar VSTi included of any kind? ie sampled electric guitar.
  20. What a great idea, I wish this would just pop up for me on my computer when I'm surfing the net and reacting to just about everything everywhere.
  21. Dragged out my Whitlam's album, Australian band.
  22. Kuassa is having their 10th anniversary sale with 40-50% off their guitar amps and studio effects etc. There is also a free guitar amp there. https://www.kuassa.com/
  23. I'd use local Gumtree normally for stuff like that but that depends on the Covid-19 rules in your area.. If it's easy to post and you don't mind the hassle of posting, I would put it on Ebay to bid starting $0.99. The good thing about this is that you will get bids and even after the first bid you know it's gone. If you set a price for it, it might sit there for ages. The win 7 stuff could be separated because it will still have recent value to someone.
  24. This is another simple table showing number of infections/deaths in each country. Australia has been doing quite well, we were 16th and now we are 23rd. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ We have been told not to wear masks at the moment but I think the main reason for that is because they don't want the public wearing masks and therefore using up the supply for the medical professionals. We also don't have it out of control at the moment, hospitals are coping well. We jumped to social distancing and isolation in our homes pretty quickly and we have a small population (24.6 million), many of which are already spread out over regional areas.
  25. Simon certainly gets around, he did the same for me. Service seems pretty good with this company. I also like the size of the files. I had the Mac_OSX and DS_Store files in my downloads, I use windows so got rid of those and cut and pasted the main file so the instruments and samples were only one level down from the main files, renamed the main files. Installation is another plus, just requires putting the files on the sample drive, that's it. Now ready to go to my offline DAW, will give them a test later.
