I have both X3 and the latest version... both with the same issue. I have sufficient disk and CPU, but I keep getting garbled noises, pops, clicks and engine dropout in both Cakewalk Sonar X3... and the latest Cakewalk by Bandlab. I have the buffers as high as possible... not sure what else I should be doing. My problem is running Guitar Rig 6. Yesterday, it was fine and I did several hours of recording.  Today, however, it's unlistenable and I'm unable to mix it down to a wav file.

It sounds like your PC is at its wits end. what are you r PC specs? It is definitely an audio interface issue.

What audio interface do you have. Some interfaces just do not have good drivers for good PC/DAW performance

If you use a laptop, do you have a sperate hard rive for audio only that spins at 7200RPM or greater?

Have you tried freezing your tracks to free up resources?

Without any info about your pc and audio interface, I would say update your PC, audio interface or freeze tracks

Well, apparently CD Architect lives on -- and is being marketed by Sony, no less. A bit too pricey for my tastes. Here's a link to v5.2 at Amazon:

I have been using CD Architect for over a decade now and i will probably be using it for another decade. Im wish it had DDP though, as i use another program for that.

plugins do not work on Cakewalk

Can you elaborate a bit on this.

Which plugin? All of them?  Make and model would be great!

Are you trying to edit audio or MIDI? I'm assuming audio, since plugins are another name for vst's and not vsti's

Do you hear the audio from the track without the plugin?

When you insert the plugin, what happens? Do you hear anything?

Have they worked before and now they stopped working?

Do you have Global effect bypass enabled?

Do you have the effect chain bypassed?

I can not see any waveforms in the monitor when recording but when I've finished, I can.

This is how it works. the wav form will materialize after the recording is completed. The waveform is not real-time, like a dB meter would be.

As far as the distortion problem, it can be a few things. It can be a driver issue or a clipping issue.

First, i would check your audio interface's drivers and make sure they are up to date and set up correctly. Having the drivers in the worn driver mode and wrong buffer settings can cause artifacts that can to some sound like distortion. If you have an audio interface from a good manufacturer, like MOTU, Focusrite or RME, try ASIO driver mode and try raising your ASIO buffers a bit..

2nd, I would look at your entire signal chain and check every single gain stage to make sure nothing is clipping.

I'm running a Core2 Quad - I notice that when processing, the CPU usage stays relatively low, hovers around 30%. Is there a setting to tell CW to take more full advantage of a multi-core processor?

    1) Is this the CPU reading for your DAW or your PC?

    2) How many programs do you have running in your background?

    3) What is your sample rate (yes this affects your CPU usage)

    4) what is your driver mode setting? (yes this also affects your CPU, as the lower your buffers, the harder the CPU can work.)

30% may be the normal for your PC, DAW and project. Depending on how many tracks, plugins, automation, etc, etc you have goin on, the CPU will be working.

If you are not having any problems and everything is running fine, then I would not worry about it. If you are dropping out and getting artifacts, then i would worry about it.

With all the new DAW's on the market can we still classify Cakewalk as the best whether it is free or not?

For me, chocolate ice-cream is the best. If you ask my my wife, she would disagree. She thinks pistachio ice-cream is the best. My daughter on the other hand thinks cookies and cream is the best ice-cream.

problem fixed, im new to music. in the mixing phase bump your sample rate, heard that! all better.

You cannot change your sample rate for a project, unless you are into the chipmunk sound..  Do you mean your raised your ASIO drivers? That would be the usual fix for that

I have not noticed this issue before but the project that I'm working on, when I bounce a clip, it rendered 3db lower in level and the clip name become blank.

Any suggestion of what to look for?

Can you write down your export properties please. Everything that can be configured in the export property window should be listed.

It can be as easy an you not selecting the correct source or as complicated as you not having the correct routing in sonar (All tracks to master bus, all sends to desired bus's, all bus's to master bus, and master bus  to main outs)

SInce switching to CbB, I have been recording in mono so far.   Tonight I tried to record in stereo with my Yamaha MX 49 keyboard, and it's only recording in mono.  I have no idea why.  As you can see in the photo, it's set to stereo.    When I was using Sonar, my keyboard recorded in stereo with no issues.

    CbB-stereo (2).png

This looks like a Stereo WAV file to me. Stereo is 2 channels and that is what I am seeing in tour picture. Mono is one channel and you would only see a single wav file, not a left and right channel as you posted.

so, i have gone through all the support pages and looked through google but i cant find anything on this. i just received my mackie onyx artist 1-2 today and installed all the drivers. however it isnt appearing in any of the driver lists. like at all. its also not letting me playback mp3 or wav files saying unable to open audio playback device plz help

What OS do you have? Did you install the correct drivers for your OS form the Mackie website?

Did you uninstall the onboard sound card? This is important, as ASUIO can only see one sound card.

What is your set up (Driver Mode, sample rate, and bit depth?)

Installing drivers doesn't set up the audio interface automatically. You need to manually set it up in your PC and DAW

i add the fade by slightly dragging in the corners on each side but when i loop it the fade on the right hand side follows the loop so that the end of the audio track and the start of it is faded but not the looped clips themselves. Sorry if my explanation is bad:(

In other words the only way for me to get rid of the pop sound is to copy paste the clip over and over again since the fade wont loop properly.

The popped is caused by not cutting the track at a 'zero crossing.'

Make sure you have the option selected that says 'cut at zero crossings' also. Then cut your loop and apply a very very very short fade should work perfectly.  Make sure the fade envelope is set to 'fast' and try just a frame or 2. It doesn't take much and if you have 'cut at zero crossings' enabled, it may not need a fade.

I am trying to paste  into a project an audio clip that I have copied from another project but I keep getting the message above. I have checked the sample rates of the projects and bit rates and they are identical. Any ideas?

For information the audio clip I am copying was created by bouncing to a track.

    Thank you

Try using the 'Import Audio' option and not the 'copy and paste'' option. The new project needs to convert the file to the projects sample rate. It prop cannot do that when you just try to paste it into the new project.

FYI: Make sure your import properties are set up correctly

@CJ Jacobson - this has been fixed for the next release.

In the meantime, if you make sure "Center on Now Time with Keyboard Zoom" is checked and also your mouse zoom settings are set to "At Now Time" this should work:

    image.png.3e9324cc3c2857cbb7d970016621c8ef.pngimage.png.1954608216ec5d8bfe028e600fdb6458.png

In the next release, you'll be able to set your mouse options independently of the "Center on Now Time with Keyboard Zoom" setting.

It Worked and my life is just a bit easier now. Thanks!!!

  14. Noel said they were gong to address the now time scroll bar not moving to the center when zooming with control surfaces, as it before before. One of the updates got rid of that options and it was said that they would look into it. Its been 2 or 3 updates later and it still doesn't behave as it used to. Its more of a pain for the users who use control surfaces.

When you press the zoom + or - with your muse, it automatically centers the zoom in or outs. The same used to be for the control surfaces that have zoom knobs (wheels, buttons etc etc)  A update that happened in the past wiped that out for some reason.  Now its a pain to use the zoom with the CTL surface

    Thank you,

    CJ

    Hey All

I'm from the old school outboard gear days of recording, but over the years have become 99-100% in the box.

I'm just curious what the appeal of using a control surface is besides it being able to be used from a longer distance from your DAW than just a keyboard. I like keyboard shortcuts, so I think I'm missing something.

I use the Advid Artist Transport for scrolling and moving my way through the project. I can zoom in and out on tracks faster, in a split second!! Its way faster than moving the mouse wheel to the corner and then clicking on the zoom. I can scrub, play, stop, record, Rewind measures at a time or FF measures at a time.

This control surface fits my workflow.

    Hi,

Was hoping I could gather some techniques for selectively silencing FX trails, specifically within a track.  For example, maybe there is a vocal or guitar solo track having reverb or delay FX, and there's a spot in the song where the music comes to a dead stop for a few beats.  If the goal was to ensure the gap was silent with no FX trails spilling over, what are the available methods for achieving this?

    Thanks,

          Sonic

These are some things you can use and/or do

    1. Gate

    2. Volume automation

    3. FX automation

    4. Cut the track into clips and where the clip ends is ware the FX tail will end. Make sure you have disabled play Fx tails in the preference  menu and do a short fade so no artifacts effect it

Is there a version available to us or has SONAR gone to Windows 10 only? Also, what full retail version (if any and not a player) of Kontakt may be used within SONAR?

You will be fine Dawn running Cakewalk on win 7, as long as its 64bit and not 32bit.

Kontact will work with it also, here is a video showing how to use it with Cakewalk

I have a small SSD of 500Gb and a 900 GB SATA drive.  I am going to purchase an East/West library.  In order to stretch my SSD space, would it be advisable to run CbB from the SATA dr and leave all my sound libraries on the SSD.  If so, can I simply redirect a new download of CbB to the SATA dr?

    Thanks Willard

In my experience and many others, Cakewalk should be installed on the C drive (Program drive). no other drive. No redirects. It needs to be on the main drive..

VST, VSTi, DX and DXi's are installed on the C program drive.

You can install sample library's on another drive, like E drive (Audio drive)
