  1. Will they maybe change name to ProSonus and start with subscriptions?
  2. Good song, thanks for remixing and posting it again. I think the overall mix and arrangement is great, maybe the bass is a bit dominant in the verse? I listened in headphones, so take it with a pinch of salt. Love the 6/8+3/4 combo. And xylo percussion! Nice Peter Gabriel-ish sound on the vocal.
  3. Kjempegreit! So much energy unleashed on the chorus, and lovely verses as nice contrast. Good work all involved. 😀

    Picnic - a journey

I took a listen to some Dolby songs. Didn't recognize them, but the style was very close to many of my early 90's songs! It's close to the tonality of Harold Faltermeyer, and from him I'm sure I got a lot of influence. (and from a guy called Ray Lynch - loved the soundscapes he created, Mr Mister etc). Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

    Picnic - a journey

LOL, no parody intentions here. I just try to do whatever comes up in my mind. The lyrics were written when i was around 20 years old, and over 20 years before I would get my first child. My second one is (hopefully) arriving in two months, and it's a boy... 🤣 Thank a lot, good idea about the snare. I have a hard time hearing such things until you point it out.
  7. I have a i7-2600 (without k) as well! It's working fine with 16 Gig ram. It's a bit slow with the EW Hollywood orch diamond, but is workable with big orchestrations if you freeze parts in the mixing process. SSD for samples is helping a lot in this case I think. I will definitely go for an Intel processor next time as well.
  8. I picked up Pro MB on fabfilters site. And the upgrade to Pro Q3 after recommendations here. And then I thought I might need a de-esser, so picked up Pro DS as well. Then I got a really nice price on Pro G... dammit! Got it, of course. 🙄

    Picnic - a journey

I'm glad you like it. The lyrics were originally without the baby concept, it was just about a spoiled teenager. I thought the lyrics were so bad and pointless so I added the baby cry in 2013 version, just to fool the listener a little. The lyric part of music creation is a dead end for me, I think I have only written 2 songs with lyrics since 1995... Great to hear about your Peavey DPM-3 journey! I didn't know they even did synths. I'm with you on the Windows (3.0-3.1) vendetta. I removed it and just used DOS until 1996-97 when I got W95. W3.0 lagged like crazy on my 386sx and I could start up my computer in 8 seconds getting to MS-DOS prompt. Thanks a lot.
  11. In 1993, I wrote a song called "Picnic". It has a strong 80's style, I can hear some Mr Mister that I loved back then. I recorded it through a mixer with vocals and sounds from my Roland D-10 (via Cakewalk 4 I think). I'm sure I have it on tape somewhere in some drawer. What I can remember a terrible vocal recording. However, a week ago I found a CD from 1995 with a instrumental version of the song. I did some instrumentals for my brothers OS/2 game pack, and for some reason I had borrowed a Roland RD-700 digital piano to to use its sounds. I had no effects other than the obvious chorus and reverb buttons on the piano, so very dry result. Anyway, here it is: Then in 2013 I did a remake of the song. The harmonies were adjusted and the bridge were changed a bit because I didn't like the old one. This was the first project I used melodyne in, so the vocals are unfortunately a bit destroyed. A lot and bad auto-tuned. Here it is: Anyway, now when finding the old recording I wanted to have a new go on the song so I used the 2013 version and changed some sounds (a lot of dim pro back then). The main goal with this new mix were to get a cleaner and clearer mix than 2013 but at the same time with a big soundscape. And with a more distinct bass line. The vocals were hard to do anything about but I fiddled a little with the delay and reverb. Here is the new version: I thought these different takes could be fun for you to hear and compare. I guess that anyone recording MIDI in the 90's had hardware compressors and effects. Didn't exist in my world, until they became software plugins.

    EDM-type thing

Well, the mix is ok I think (the drums are a bit quiet), but the arrangement are very bass-heavy. There are bass grooves and pads that are stocked on each other, which sounds very muddy. Otherwise it sounds nice, you could add a synth melody or a vocal. I liked the side theme at 1:05. Keep on daw-ing. I hope your ears will get better. 🙂
  13. Hi Daryl, I hope everything is great with you and your family. Great song! After a few listenings the pre-chorus is growing, love it. Great build-up to the catchy chorus. You have a nice skill to balance more in the "interesting and fresh" scale rather than just "wierd." Not that I don't like wierd, but it can ruin good songs sometimes. The mix sounds top notch both in my headphones and speakers.
  14. I bought a used Roland D10 in 1989 and wanted a sequencer to record my ideas. My father bought me Cakewalk 2.0 (i think) on my brothers suggestion. The idea was also for my father to use it for printing sheet music, but the notation part was complicated to use (and maybe looked ugly) so he got a notation program for it. After that I got a version with purple frame (Cakewalk 5?) -> Pro Audio9 -> SONAR 6 -> X1 -> X2 -> X3 -> SPlat -> CbB. Before X1 I just updated when I got a new computer. Before Pro Audio 9 I just recorded MIDI from my D10 (later got a JV-2080). I joined the CW forum in 2012 and regret that I didn't find it earlier, because a lot of tech stuff, mixing/mastering could have been learned at an earlier stage. The earliest .wrk I still have left is from -97, but I have 50+ tunes recorded on cassette tape. Which is fine enough, because some of the ideas where interesting, but the arrangements were crap. 🤣
  15. I have everything except Objeq, and Chromophone has became my AAS favorite and a go-to whenever I need percussive sounds. Get it? Get it!
  16. Nice price! How is this compared to Valhalla Shimmer?
  17. I have been wondering about this. Is it any possible way to sort of route the HW audio insert in the AI to an own audio out, route an audio track to the current midi track, and then add VST effects to that audio track? Or something like that... 😛 I know it is easier to render (record) the audio directly, but maybe you need the ability to edit the notes when adding the VST effect.
  18. It has more with foreign language than age to do. If I don't know what to write, I say it in swedish and translate it word by word. 🤣 By the way, I'm 932 years old.
  19. I have a 7 year old computer (some stats below) with a Kingston sv200s3256g SSD as my start-up drive. It is still working, but takes some time (1-3 min after logged in) to function properly, after random freezes. Maybe it is not the drive's fault but it hasn't been like that until recently. If I would buy a new SSD I think I would pick up a Samsung 860 EVO if it fits in the box. If I get a new computer I would definitely get the 970 EVO. (m.2).
  20. Great news! Lets see if my old computer can manage it though... Does it overwrite Play 5?
  21. Blink with your lava lamp if you do.
