Between this and what they did with the Black Friday bonus library that wasn't offered to earlier BBCSO purchases (so if you had waited to buy you would have gotten the same price, less bugs and a unique not for sale library) it's clear Spitfire and I have differing views on how to treat customers.

Reason 10 does not show up as a Rewire device in Cakewalk
Matthew Sorrels replied to Justin's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I think for Reason 11 they removed rewire completely. -
Resolve is most likely a better choice for "All I want to do is make videos with lots of particles & FX with 3D Titles & Text for my music, and some gaming videos." But Blender or Resolve(with Fusion) or HitFilm all are just different takes on the same problem really. And that problem is that good motion graphics isn't easy. So you either end up with something that looks bad or you end up using someone's template (commercial or free). Or you spend 10,000 hours(*) and learn to make your own. I don't think it matters which cheap/free app you pick really though. None of them really change the problem. Just like Protools vs Cakewalk won't really make your song a top hit. The Humble Bundle is a pretty good deal no matter how you look at it, and if you are producing videos it could be a useful investment. Also the Humble Music & Sound Effects bundle might also be useful. You also might want to skip all of that and buy some online classes. Though finding a class that is narrowly tailored to what you need that only uses cheap/free software might be difficult. Most of the better classes focus on After Effects. For example I enjoyed this Udemy class but it's After Effects based https://www.udemy.com/course/motion-typography There are lots of free instructional videos/websites though, but don't rule out paying for a class just because it's not free. Sometimes it's easy to get so focused on what things cost instead of what they actually are. Don't rule out free just because it's free and don't rule out expensive just because it's expensive. * Your mileage may vary.

Emperium Titan and Lacrimosa are both from the same recording session. The Destiny choir is another one that makes up the Emperium bundle. It was discounted a lot during black Friday, but still way too much for what it offered. It's not clear how much better the Emperium Titan is over Lacrimosa. It looks like it has more mics and some sort of legato difference. But the secret nature of the V8P products make it kind of hard to really tell what is what. I've never been a fan of lite products as a rule. I understand their place but that doesn't mean it makes me happy to use the toy version of anything, ever. In this case I think 8Dio is kind of playing people. The media composer crowd loves the idea of "rare" instrument libraries. I'm not exactly sure why, but it has a long history. And since they are the ones that are actually willing to buy really overpriced sample libraries, it's not surprising they have catered to them. Spitfire used to do the same with their bespoke libraries. Doesn't mean the products are reasonably priced though.
-
Yeah if this were $98, it would be a different conversation. Lacrimosa is kind of noisy. The samples aren't as clean as I had hoped I guess. It's hard to say but I found I'm always having to lower the expression and other dials to get rid of glitches when it blends between notes. Like if you push it too loud/hard it doesn't blend right. If you fiddle with it you can usually clean it up but it's annoying. I also really dislike the old-style 8Dio interface on this. Not that the new Century-style interface is much better. Other smaller 8Dio vocal libraries aren't as bad. But this giant choir isn't quite as nimble as I think I need it to be. Of course it could just all be in my head. Every time I load Lacrimosa up I think to myself, there is a bigger more pro package of this (Emperium in the V8P program) that I didn't want to spend the money on and I see it like I'm driving the lite version. It's perhaps just a mental thing but it's why I've avoided buying Majestica too.
-
I don't have Insolidus, but to be honest I've found Lacrimosa pretty disappointing. Not sure I'm willing to roll the dice on yet another 8Dio choir. Troels can make anything sound good, but actually getting something good out of it yourself is an exercise left to the reader.

Humble Bundle - Filmmakers ( inc Hitfilm Pro 14.1 )

I used ALT+F4 to close Action Pro. Thought it was annoying not to have an exit feature. -

I played with the ukramedia scripts today (yes I have a Adobe Creative Cloud subscription). They aren't bad, but I wouldn't call them world class and awesome. Useful if you need something like that, but kind of plain. There are a lot of lower third and titling packages at much, much higher prices that are technically better. I don't think anyone that gets this bundle and doesn't have After Effects is really missing much. It's a nice bonus but nothing to write home about. -

All the ukramedia scripts/presets require Adobe After Effects. So might not be that useful for casual users. -
I actually bought this (a sale), but it was a long, long time ago. I want to say 7 years ago, maybe more. They updated it once since then. I don't think I've ever used it in any music. It's fun to play with though. Just never got anything out of it.

[CLOSED] 2019.11 Hotfix Release Candidate (HFRC)
Matthew Sorrels replied to Noel Borthwick's topic in Early Access Program
The UI paint problems with the VST3 version in Bandlab may still very well be iZotope's bug, can't really tell. The track name garbage though is almost certainly Bandlab's bug, looks like they aren't null terminating the track name when they hand it to the plugin maybe. The VST2 version of Relay in Cubase 10.5 doesn't even have the advanced drop down arrow. Which I think is funny (since Cubase is the defacto VST platform). But the VST3 one correctly resizes and repaints the UI, which Cakewalk doesn't seem to do right. In Reaper and Ableton 10 both the VST2 and VST3 plugins work correctly and have all the options visible. I'd say the odds of getting this fixed aren't that good. Maybe someone from Bandlab will see this and can put it on the list. I think they can get a demo version of the iZotope plugins that would be enough to test/debug this. -

[CLOSED] 2019.11 Hotfix Release Candidate (HFRC)
Matthew Sorrels replied to Noel Borthwick's topic in Early Access Program
Your screenshot shows Relay is the VST2 version (see the plugin title area at the top) but the Visual Mixer is the VST3 version. I don't think VST2 will do track names. Sadly with all VST3 the track names aren't coming out right, they seem to have extra garbage characters on the end -
Import Music .XML file Conversion to midi
Matthew Sorrels replied to Starise's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
MuseScore is really the best option for converting the MusicXML files. I have a one line batch file that uses it's command line options to do it. You can then set that batch file up as a Send To target so you can actually right click files and send to the batch file and have it convert right there in the explorer. Change the path to where your copy of MuseScore is and save it as a batch file, MusicXMLtoMID.bat somewhere on your computer, then select the .bat file and do a right click and create shortcut. Rename the short cut to just MusicXMLtoMID.lnk then right click and cut it. Then in the explorer type "shell:sendto" (no quotes) This takes you to your Send To menu directory, then paste the shortcut in. Now when you right click on an MusicXML file go to the Send To menu and pick MusicXMLtoMID and it will run the batch file on your xml file and produce a .mid file in the same location. There may be other better ways to do this now. I came up with this many years ago to solve problems with Guitar Pro's MIDI save feature not doing slurs correctly (but it's MusicXML was correct and could be converted). Here's some help on doing the send to thing: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/customize-the-windows-vista-send-to-menu/ -

You may need to install a newer/updated video card driver. opencl.dll comes from your video card manufacturer. -

The differences between Resolve and Resolve Studio aren't really that clear. Blackmagic still only has this one document for Resolve 15, it hasn't been updated for 16. https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/SupportNotes/DaVinci_Resolve_15_Feature_Comparison.pdf I'm not sure if HDR and greater than 4k is all that important to most people. The missing effects are pretty much covered by this Ignite Pro bundle. The missing audio effects I'm assuming anyone posting here has a ton of better VST plugins which should work in Resolve. There are some file formats the lite version doesn't support but I'm not sure if that would effect most people though. Movie file format support is going to always be an issue no matter what you use to edit video with. Again I think for most users the paid version of Resolve doesn't bring all that much to the table. For Fusion there are a bunch of 3D/optical flow features that I personally think are useful but again I don't think the average user would ever bother with. I don't really think the effects in this bundle changes things all that much though. Editing video isn't really about having a vast collection of visual effect tools. I think not getting this bundle and just using Resolve itself as is covers most people. This bundle just helps with the VFX side of the fence. Which may or may not be all that important to you. If you need to blow things up, do guns/lasers, etc. Having HitFilm and these plugins and stock footage can be invaluable. Even normal video these days have a lot more VFX work than most people realize. Object removal and green screen pretty much top the list. Sadly neither of those are always easy with or without a ton of plugins. -
Humble Bundle - Filmmakers ( inc Hitfilm Pro 14.1 )
Matthew Sorrels replied to aidan o driscoll's topic in Deals
Humble Bundle is legit. They are also very cool and easy to work with. It's now a very well run machine. Create an account, buy the bundle at the $30 level, get all the serial keys and activate them. They have web pages that explain how to redeem each of the many products in this bundle. The steps involved can be complicated but they do have pretty good documentation which you should read. Mostly it involves making accounts at the various businesses and installing the software and then using the serial number to register the software. Ignite Pro's ton of plugins shows up in Resolve, Adobe Premiere and After Effects for me with no problems. That alone is a pretty good deal for $30. -
I have VC7 so it was $49 crossgrade from that. I got the Paypal to finally go through but getting their software center to sync has proven impossible. I think I may have finally got it to authorize (after a number of failed attempts). I can't remember an online portal/installer behaving this poorly.
-
Well I finally got logged in and it offered me a crossgrade to Pigments 2 for $49. So I guess it turns out I do need this synth. ? Sadly that's as far as I was able to get, that cart/login/checkout sequence doesn't seem to be possible with the current website's load/whatever.
-
They updated all the synths. It took me an hour to install them since it runs the manual installer for each and every one of the zillion synths included in collection. That was so much wasted time and effort. Don't have Pigments though, so this is kind of interesting. Do I need another synth? Or more importantly do I need this synth?

Humble Bundle - Filmmakers ( inc Hitfilm Pro 14.1 )
Matthew Sorrels replied to aidan o driscoll's topic in Deals
Most people don't really need the pro/dongle version of DaVinci Resolve. Though I personally wouldn't give up my dongle. ? Hitfilm has never really been in the same class as Fusion. But I may be slightly biased since I've paid well more than $1k for Fusion licenses (before Blackmagic). Lucky for me my last Fusion support contract got me a free Blackmagic Fusion dongle. And now they have made it so the Fusion dongle will authorize Resolve. I saw that bit about After Effect plugin support coming to HitFilm. I've seen this in the past (before Adobe cloud) there were several apps that supported AE plugins. But none of them could keep up with the changes in AE for very long. Or they were so completely buggy as to be unusable. I don't think I'd ever get my hopes up on plugin compatibility. Even OFX plugins rarely work right on all platforms/hosts and they were meant to. -
Maybe it was just the offer on the Modal Runs. It's page seems to say it's good for 26 days which would be Jan 6th.
-
I thought (but can't find the KvR post so take with grain of salt) they said all the deal prices will stay in effect till after the new year. It's not like 8dio where they are only good for 48 hours. The free offers are limited quantities though.
