  1. I went for Masala 1 this year. Last year Angelic. I'm a long time Lounge Lizard user - I think their instruments are innovative and they have some good sound designers. The Swatches collection is generous as are the yearly gifts.

  2. Since my music day job (not my actual day job 😀) is playing bass I limit what I will spend on tools for music creation and recording. This forum has helped me build up a pro quality set of tools on a shoestring budget. It also helps in avoiding shiny objects that aren't all that useful. Finally, I use many of the freebies discovered here on a regular basis. I get the collector mentality, years ago when I had my Roland D10 and later Korg M1 I was always desperately looking for useful patches which were few and far between but very rewarding when found.

Just a nudge to check out the Audio Assault Air Rack  that I mentioned earlier in the thread?
Even though its now $9.99 (still on sale, but not the BF** $5 price I mentioned at the time) it looks like it ticks off all the boxes people have mentioned as desirable in an IR handler except for tone matching:

    • IR Mixer with Tweakable Mic Position
    • Serial/Parallel IR Processing
    • IR Export Function
    • Deconvolver
    • Unlimited Slots
    • FREE IR Library Included (can use your own as well)
    • Resizable GUI
    • EQ
    • phase delay
    • normalizer
    • panning
    • etc.

**web site says BF sale is still on but when I tried code just a couple of minutes ago it wasn't working for me.

I was able to buy aIR Rack for $5 - thanks for the tip. I think it's the right one for my usage.

Better buy >> aIR Impulse Rack on sale for $5 with code AA-BF-23

    Features

    • IR Mixer with Tweakable Mic Position
    • Serial/Parallel IR Processing
    • IR Export Function
    • Deconvolver
    • Unlimited Slots
    • FREE IR Library Included
    • Resizable GUI

This one probably aligns better with what I'm hoping to accomplish. The Amp and EQ sections of the Nembrini product are probably very good but I would probably use an amp sim instead. The Nembrini IR Loader looks more like a tool to create a very custom unique amp replacement more than just an IR tool

    I'm a massive ToneX fan

Own two of the pedals, axe I/o, etc.

I love the AXE I/O Solo. It replaced one of my Behringer UMC202HD's (moved it over to keyboard duties) that I was very happy with but the AXE I/O helps my bass and guitar sound and play better. I use the Passive/Active switch depending on which bass I'm using. The Z-Tone knob is helpful when moving between a Strat and Les Paul.

I'm looking at video editing software right now. Any opinions on the various options for Windows. I'm looking at CyberLink PowerDirector Ultimate.

I have been using Vegas Pro 14 that came with a Humble Bundle several years ago. As a user of DAW's I found after watching a bunch of YouTube videos that I could accomplish everything I needed. To create a live video of our band I took video from multiple phones and multitrack off the board and synced them up and edited it into a nice live band video.  I'm going to buy this bundle to get up to v19.

  7. I've collected some free bass cab impulse reponses from Dr Bonkers. I also have some that are supposed to be good for acoustic guitar. I've played with IR's in AmpliTube 5. I use Nembrini amp sims on a regular basis and like the product line.

My IR use will be supplemental - mostly to improve the sound of amp sims while recording guitars and basses in DAW's.

While reading reviews I see that users who have enormous collections of IR prize a good fast browsing system which apparently isn't one of the strengths of the Nembrini IR loader although they respond to comments about this that they will be addressing that.  They include an EL-34 power amp section and a six band EQ. I see people who demo it are using preamp VST's and effect pedal emulations instead of an amp sim.

Is anyone here using Nembrini's IR Loader?  If so, how do you use it?

I have downloaded ChopTones IR Loader , STL Nadir, Melda MConvolution EZ and Lancaster Pulse

Welcome to Unify - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, especially with synth plugins you already own. I've learned a lot from John's weekly livestreams. Many of them involve Unify libraries for products I don't own like Omnisphere but it's a good way of learning more about those. The U-he Zebra2 Unify library is good.

  9. I use Midi Translator Pro to do a bunch of interesting tricks. One example is I assigned one of the sliders on my keyboard to act as a series of keyswitch note holds for a Kontakt based pedal steel instrument.  I did that because I needed the full range of my XBoard 49 to play the instrument.

A little know secret is their forum, Steve there is a wizard who can get you started on how to do something like the above.

  10. If Mike Campbell did a collection I would be interested.

I just watched "The Dumble Amp: A Short History" by Five Watt World on YouTube. I gathered from watching it that Dumble was obsessed with matching the character of the amp to the playing style of the guitarists he worked with. I'm curious about how much the Tonex ODS captures achieve that.

My favorite amp/cab emulations are ones that react as much as possible like their physical counterparts. I find myself using Nembrini  BG Extasy (Bogner) and DC30 (Vox) often.

Installed but likely won't get much use. UI is small and not resizable as far as I can tell.

impOSCar2 has three set UI sizes. When newly installed, it loads in the medium size.

To change it turn the EDIT knob over to the CC position. Look for the UI Size dropdown list to the left of the on-screen keyboard. Select a new size from the list. Restart impOSCar2 to view the changes.

I read somewhere that the large size is too big

You click the Download Arrow to download them to use when ever you want.  That said, but careful as you only get 20 of them if you have the free version.

I was thinking that until you hit the download button you would be getting white noise every 10 seconds - seems odd if you are not experience this and have 20 left.

So the 20 downloads isn't 20 slots you can rotate? Good to know. I actually thought you can only have 20 downloaded at a time 😀

I don't think I've been getting white noise every 10 seconds. I'm using Tonex from AT5 running under Cantabile. I'll go back and check - the Hiwatt live at Leeds patch has a realistic noise floor.

  13. I have AmpliTube 5 Standard. I haven't bought Tonex so I'm on CS for that.

Last night I played for hours using a user Tonex Preset called "Double Hi-Watt John Entwistle Bass" to work on a set of Live at Leeds we're going to do.

I been using all kinds of presets but my Tonex Account on Tone.net/tonex/users/dougs.ik "User Tone Models Downloads remaining" is still at 20/20.  I'm not even sure how to download presets. Do I only need to download presets if I'm going offline?

I find the Tonex pedal tempting. I could use it for when we record rehearsals direct to our Soundcraft Ui24R

We have made improvements to the CDN used as well as the installation process overall (including server-side updates) so it does make sense that everything shows correctly now and is smoother in general.  We've seen people who have reinstalled some very large libraries with only a few clicks and zero issues since this change and will continue to monitor and make sure the changes provide a better experience and continue to move forward.

Hi Peter, since the Product Manager combined everything into one place and automated the sound file installs using IK products has been really convenient. Please thank the developers for us.

I'd like to find the plugin that can make my modest acoustic with a sound hold pickup sound like a well mic'd guitar in a room at a no-brainer price.

Nembrini's Acoustic Voice requires a piezo pickup - it's Martin emulation sounds good. I converted an all acoustic Takamine Jade (budget line they produce) to acoustic electric using a JOYO JE-307 I bought on Amazon for $24. I'm going to try it with Acoustic Voice at some point.

Blue Cat also has a guitar body/pickup emulator that includes acoustics.
