What is super cheap? Usually on Ebay, it's scam and pirated softwares when it's too low...

It was listed for 40. My alarm went off but seller's other offerings seem closer to regular price . i figured that since i was leaning towards Modo, getting both for the price of one was a decent risk/reward chance.

Since I got the SSL from SSL my channel needs are fulfilled.

Same. I have ssl from ssl, ssl G from brainworks, not to mention the fact that cakewalk has an ssl strip of sorts.

What other synths have you tried with VIP that didn't work? It's hit or miss, but most synths that I've tried will at least import patches manually.

Before Akai shut down their user groups, I managed to grab a few VIP user created plugin maps for Dim Pro, Rapture, and Z3TA+2. They don't have all the expansions, but cover the factory presets.

Not all plugins will import presets to VIP, because some plugins refuse to share preset info with their host.  It's problem with the plugin. Akai never tried to put restrictions on 3rd party plugins like Native Instruments does with Komplete Kontrol and their NKS ecosystem.

I should have specified "with low effort".  Off the top of my head I know my UVI stuff would not work.  I think we discussed this before. Akai's big errors were abandoning project and shutting down the exchange. I think most of us are willing to manually input a fav synth or two, but nobody is going through all of their native instrument expansions or kontakt libraries.

I have mixed feelings about nks. I like that it actually works but hate the restrictions.

  4. I loved old cakewalk instruments too, but I agree with. abacab. There are too many free products that are probably better AND less likely to crash your current setup.

Vital and Surge alone cover most of the synth options.

Almost every drum and sampler option is superior to what cakewalk offered for . Beatscape at best was a not finished instrument that never caught on.

Granted, finding a vast rompler like dimension pro for free is a challenge in an all in one product, but bbc discovery, labs, sine player, ample guitar/bass lite, kontact player, and  decent sampler will give you overall better sound quality.

I still have the installers for a number of cakewalk instruments and the only one i bother with is zeta+2 and mostly because it's one of the few synths i have that VIP software works with.

Thanks dubdisciple, your answer started ringing some bells here ... I too installed the Addictive Drums plugin at that time.  I'll see if I can get more info from the XLN people.  They are very forthcoming with any questions I've had in the past.

Thanks to you too treesha.  Funnily, I bought and installed Nectar 3 Plus a couple of days ago (as I couldn't get the Elements anymore) thinking it was a blown-up version of Elements, but it's different as it's more voice-oriented (and is black 😀).  Elements (the orange one) had a lot of pre-defined setups based on music styles to choose from and I edited a lot to my own taste.  That's why I'm keen to get it back somehow.   I'm wondering if by getting Nectar 3 Plus it installed Elements too and is now asking for the same authorisation codes as Nectar 3 ... I haven't tried that.  Maybe ... just maybe 🤔

If you registered it, it should still be in your izotope account. You have to look in the legacy installers area

A question for any long-standing Cakewalk / SONAR users ...

Did Nectar Elements come as a "freebie" with any product in the past ?  I am working on an old project which used Nectar Elements as a plugin, and it's now asking to be re-authorised ... and of course, I cannot remember any of the details to authorise it.

I have an account with iZotope, but there is no sale registered there, so my conclusion is that it may have come as a "freebie".

    Thanks.

Sorry, just realised this should be posted somewhere else ...

Kind of. I forgot the details. If I'm not mistaken it was not directly from Cakewalk. Forgive me if I am wrong , but I believe when Cakewalk first started including Addictive Drums, during the registration with XLN they were giving away the original version of Elements and we got in on deal.

You want a tango and pretend it’s trap melody, I got you.  You want a polka melody that i call edm, I got you…..and so on…yes annoying hahah

The idea is not god awful. I am a firm believer in not giving yourself extra work for repetitive tasks. Pop music has been using same chord progressions forever and having them handy is a timesaver. I just hate the concept that it's that simple. Plenty of awful songs used the same chords.

From the Softube Tape web page:

If you run PreSonus Studio One (Pro or Artist), you can not only use Tape as a standard plug-in. Adding Tape to your MixFX slot gives you Tape Multitrack. Tape Multitrack includes all the goodies of Tape, but in addition, you get selectable crosstalk between each individual track — and you can easily control the Tape Multitrack settings from a single interface. The Tape and Tape Multitrack license is one and the same. This means that if you're not a Studio One user but at some future point decide to switch to that DAW, you will already have Tape Multitrack installed, licensed and ready to go.

    Softube Tape and Tape Multitrack

Note that plugin scanners for all other DAWs and plugin hosts will fail the "Tape Multi Track.vst3" file. That is expected behavior.

I use this feature all the  time now
