1. The positioning resolution (dictated by the Global Snap - which is set to whole measures)
2. The note length, which is dictated by which note you've clicked.
There's actually a couple of other settings in the View menu that may affect things:3. The "Display Resolution" - I pretty much always keep this at 1/32.
4. The "Fill Durations" setting, which I suspect is checked on your set up. I normally keep this unchecked.
1. That's just it, that in version 2020.05 nothing in the staff does not depend on this setting - the notes can be inscribed in any part of the rhythm.

2. Sorry, but because of the difficulty of translating this phrase, I don't understand.
3. Yes, I do the same.
4. Disabling this feature does not affect anything.
QuoteWhat you're selecting is different note lengths, not different position resolutions.
No matter what I do, a note of any length hits the first beat of a measure.

In the previous release, the snap was hard-coded to 1/32... so you would have to aim quite precisely between the two bar lines to correctly position the notes rhythmically. In other words, there was always 32 positions between the bars where the note could be placed.
Now, when global snap is on and set (for example) to 1/4, you don't need to be as precise as there's only 4 positions it could be placed in rhythmically.
When global snap is off, it reverts back to the previous release's behaviour of 1/32.
To my mind, having the global snap set to a less precise amount makes it easier to aim, not more difficult.... or am I missing something?
@msmcleod - Thanks for the answer!
If I understood you correctly ...
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlLNG4SDVWiJgqYoHPS-DatGIZBYiQ - Here you can see that (figuratively speaking) I do not have four positions and all the notes fall into the first beat of the measure, wherever I clicked with the mouse in the measure.

Thanks! But this is not convenient! It is very inconvenient to do this every time you switch between the Staff and Tracks windows.
It is also inconvenient, because without being bound to the rhythmic grid, all the notes have to be entered, literally aiming with the mouse not only at the stave's rulers in terms of the pitch of the notes, but also in terms of their rhythm.

QuoteThe Staff view respects the global Snap to Grid settings for note positioning when drawing notes.
Is it possible to disable this and do it as it was in previous versions?
UPD Maybe I translated something wrong with the help of Google translator.
I ask you to suggest how to change the spelling of notes in version 26.08 to the previous method (as in version 26.05).26.08

Dear Andy! This riff, this song doesn't claim to be a Grammy. This is just a demo. ☺️
Please see the 8th example.

Hello!
Please help me choose! Which of these soft guitars sounds more like a live instrument? Pop-rock song.
Thank you in advance!

@Noel Borthwick
1. After the OS crashes and restarts the large minidump disappeared, and I will have to “catch” it again.
2. I rolled back the RME Fireface UCX driver to a previous version and intend to see if the latest driver caused Cake to freeze.

22 hours ago, Noel Borthwick said:Try keeping task manager open first and then reproduce the hang. You should be able to then right click the cakewalk task and choose "save dump file".
Did as you recommended. The minidump was not created.
UPD Sorry! He ended up in a temporary folder. But its size is more than 3GB.
UPD2 And here is the crash. Minidam is created automatically. Little.

10 hours ago, Noel Borthwick said:If you can reproduce a hang please send the dump based on the instructions above.
Cakewalk hangs tight - it is impossible to open the Task Manager. It is possible to close Сake only by clicking its icon on the Quick Launch Panel and select Close Window there - then a system window appears with a choice of actions and you can Close Program.

This parameter does not affect stability.

Sorry, but I didn’t understand what you mean.

The project would be launched in 25.09.0.70 version. But rolling back to this version does not help.

Thanks! But for me (and not only for me! I write here and for several other users) for a long time there were no freezes, and they started from version 2019.11.b54, but I did not change the driver and / or system configuration.
-
Cakewalk 2019.11.b63 periodically hangs (freezes), which has not been with him for a long time! Hangup occurs spontaneously under different circumstances: editing, connecting / disconnecting VSTi, etc. Rollback to any old version leads to problems even with simple playback, which I can understand.
But here is what is strange and what I cannot understand! The same project uploaded to Sonar Platinum 10.23.b14 is working fine.
I apologize for the machine translation.

Just now, chuckebaby said:If the clip is already a region FX clip using Melodyne, then double clicking on that clip will open Melodyne by default.
OK! I’ll ask another way: how would I make it possible to create a region FX with a double click of the mouse, and so that the Melodyne window opens immediately?
-
Hi all!
Is it possible to run Melodine double-click on the audio clip and at the same time a full window? Maybe in the next update?

9 hours ago, Craig Anderton said:My concern was that he didn't like working in the PRV because he wasn't aware of Alt+click, and the ability to convert controllers into envelopes.
Thanks Craig Anderton! But I know about this feature (ability to convert controllers into envelopes). But converting envelope controllers, and then editing envelopes is a double job, longer than with cut-to-note clips (if I understood correctly.).
9 hours ago, Craig Anderton said:So he can try both workflows, and see if one works better for him than another.
I already chose this one. I chose the method that David Baay told me.
I am very grateful to everyone involved!Sorry, my English.

11 hours ago, David Baay said:I think you must have some non-default keybindings in addition to having an undocked Track Inspector. Just undocking the track inpector does not cause that to happen here.
Yes, I have non-default keyboard shortcuts. And I restored the defaults from the "SONAR Default Key Assignments" file - but the same thing happens.
But I’ve already gotten used to it - everything works out. Thank you again!
-
Yes. But with your method, I need to select each note separately, constantly changing the size of the rhythmic grid. And when a clip is cut into notes, each note is highlighted when a clip is selected and without changing the rhythmic grid. That is, this method is faster with fewer mouse manipulations.

11 hours ago, scook said:To use the regular PRV, CC data must be recorded like the rest of the MIDI data or entered directly into the controller pane in the PRV.
Yes, thanks, I know that. But this method is not convenient for me.

8 hours ago, David Baay said:Speediest workaround to split notes to clips:
- Set 'Selection after single split' in Preferences > Editing to 'Right portion'.
- Select the clip
- Alternately type Tab and S as fast as you can to split your way through the clip.
Thanks, it works! But this is what happens:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlLNG4SDVWiJgoh-jkaGZ6j3B_fRUA
That is, one press of Tab and then S is normal, and the second calls the TrackInspector, activates the Solo track, activates Loop, opens the Browser and mutes the clip.
But I will practice! 💪

2 hours ago, JoseC said:You don't need to use it for more than as a guide for aligning your envelopes with your notes.
Thank you, but I don’t see the ability to edit envelopes in the piano roll: I created the CC11 envelope in Track View, but I can’t see it in the piano roll.
-
I don't like piano roll.
I never use it. Since 1995.
-
8 hours ago, Craig Anderton said:Why do you need this?
I need to process each note with envelopes. For example, The Trumpet is an Expression Controller (CC11): selecting each note in a clip is inconvenient; and clips cut into notes can be easily selected with a mouse.

Thanks for Update 202.09.06.000!
But...
This do not work. In Win7 and Win10 too.
