  2. There's a reason why I never used Studio Rack in any actual projects I intended to keep as I always had a gut feel they would sweep the rug out from our feet and make it require WUP, or take it away.. After their recent fiasco, free isn't worth the hassle from Waves on something like that. It's easier to replace a couple of Waves plugins in a project than a whole advanced signal chain that won't open when they paywall it or make it subscription only. My gut says no.. so does my brain.. basically everything says no to Waves for now 🤣

  5. Fair enough - we should all use what we're happiest with using. As the saying goes, different strokes for different folks. It's music, and there is no right or wrong answer. For me, EZKeys was never about the piano sound. It was about the MIDI engine/inspiration: I'd end up piping it to Pianoteq.

  15. Ah yes, the days in a tape based studio. It only took 30 minutes of prep to load the tape machine, bias it, record align it, splice a leader, then record arm. Set up mics & headphones & chairs, set levels, buss everything through the console, then remember to hit record. It was sooo instantaneous. SMDH.

  17. Yes, definitely a Studio One thing. The updated Waves Central installs a new v14 Wave Shell. Plugins for v12 were fine, but I had to force Studio One to re-scan plug-ins to pick up the new v14 Waves Shell. Apparently S1 fails to auto-detect the new point release for "14.12". Select "Update Plug-in List" in Studio One (forces a re-scan at DAW start-up). Found in S1 Menu > View > Plug-In Manager.

  21. I always laugh hearing people say that WUP is fair and needed so they can develop updates and even Dirk at PA saying well of course they're charging for new versions as they "Can't be expected to work for free"(even though technically they've already been paid initially).. and yet there are so many examples like this with free updates for life and new versions, no WUP, no paying for a new version and they still make great plugins. I'm not necessarily opposed to companies charging for updates, especially if they're major updates and not just minor things they could've added to the original versions, but I love seeing and supporting all the great developers that give major updates for free and no WUP crap..

  22. Nice free one. ADSR had this with free with purchase a couple years back. Love the fact you don't need to grab an extra seat for other machines because they use the Melda licensing system where it is good for as many computers as you personally own as long as you are the only user and free updates for life - with no WUP.

  26. Yeah, I totally get some people love them. I don't. I have AD2 too, and tested some Kontakt ones. And I agree SD3 is better, but still, I don't love it. I wanna, but I can't.

  27. I did so. I also wanted to mention that NI has a good policy when it comes to reselling products. No fees, expansions can be sold separately. You have to wait some weeks, however. So if you don't like some stuff, you can get rid of it and buy something else.

  29. @Friv just like the game of Go, you can get started fairly quickly - in your preferences pick your audio IO and your MIDI keyboard. add a virtual instrument (piano, etc), press the arm track to record, press record. play your keyboard. hit stop when you're done. hit play to listen. or if you're doing a live instrument, add an audio track, arm the track for record, hit record, play your instrument, press stop to end it. press play to play it. within, i'd say a few minutes, you'll be live. within a few months you'll have acquired a decent level of expertise to record and mix. within a few years, you'll be really good but still a novice. after about 125 years you'll have mastered all the features... 🙂

  30. As a spectator, these Waves threads are baffling to me. There have only been a few vendors with epic "gripe threads" over the years, and reading those has been enough for me to steer clear of them. Just the time investment to deal with some of those issues seems a bit much.

  31. You shouldn't need to do any of those things you mentioned to "make it go" but remember, this is a complete recording studio you have here. You need to learn where everything is before you jump in and get frustrated. Start here: https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/35-tutorials/ There's some great tips to get you started, and this thread in particular has links to some excellent YouTube channels that take you from complete beginner to pro level:

  32. it had already pretty much slowed to a halt. The expensive stuff (Clarity Pro and Spherix) was excluded for no good reason - apart from to make more money from their customers.

  33. I very respectfully totally disagree ? I have all the SD2 and SD3 expansions and about 50% of the EZD2/3 - there is a massive difference in the sound character between all the packs. A simple rule is the newer the release the better the sound - although I still love that 70s dry sound of the original SD2 custom and vintage pack. To give context I also have BFD3 - AD1/2 - All the NI Kontakt ones etcetera and in my opinion nothing come close to SD3 - in both sound and usability. I'm not trying to say you're wrong as it's clearly all a matter of opinion (although you are wrong - but I'm a TT fanboy so take that into account)

  38. As impersonnal as it may sound, content creator may indeed be the most appropriate label for people assembling sounds without really investing their heart and soul into a particular project. It's a mercenary approach. Which can be hard to undertand for old-school people who have more of a samurai heart when it comes to music. We think art, they think product. Considering oneself in terms of brand and a product is no longer the prerogative of prostitutes in the age of social media, and not a source of shame either, and our contemporary understanding of music reflects the times we live in. I remember when a friend who was getting into podcasts mentionned that she had been shopping for some royalty-free music and I realized that there were people out there just pumping out music, dumping it online for people to browse through, and purchase the bits they liked. Content seems like a very adequate description for that. I guess it's not unlike back in the days when I spent time writing and recording music in all kinds of genres for presentations, to show potential cutomers what I could do. Except that nowadays, it's all about "monetizing", so they skip the presentation part and just sell that material directly. And I guess it makes sense. People who would have paid independent little guys like myself even just a bit of money to write and record original music specifically for their little documentary know that most people don't hear the difference, so they might as well save themselves some dough and pick some royalty-free generic music for peanuts. Worst case, they can even assemble loops in GarageBand themselves. Anyway, with AI, even content creators are likely to be replaced by content generators (I'm guessing that's also already a thing, but I prefer to stay behind the times and let them lemmings run off that cliff w/o me).

  40. Yeah, I got the pedal in a large part so that I could track without running one comptuer into another computer. You need to have the pedal plugged in for the Librarian tab (which I'm betting you can't even see). I haven't tried running the program while open and selecting through things on the same computer I'm running an audio interface so not sure how well they play together on the same machine yet. I am using the pedal into a Radial JDI direct box into a different interface, but if I'm running the Librarian tab, technically I'm also conncting it to a different laptop instead of through the same computer I'm running the DAW on - but what you are asking might also be possible - just haven't tried.

  41. Another way to do this: quick group the tracks and ctrl click on the Gain control of any track, to lower it. I find this useful because you can changehe values in small steps and with greater precision. I found the shelf tool difficult to use with small changes.
